An excellent point! (I'm totally stealing this line for the next comp). Thanks gr

Trying to announce the mild run…seems like the trick of the trade there is having a few preconceived sidebars in your pocket…talk about the skier (not the run they’re taking), talk about the venue, equipment, history of the event, whatever…while the unimpressive run is going on, working in observations here and there as it unfolds.
Easier said than done, I guess.
….and it looks like ias is bringing this post to an end, a longtime poster here, posting out of Utah for many years and known as the inventor of The Ogden, always a crowd favorite going back to his days as the yetiman….great to see him back on tour, putting some posts up with that distinctive Lake Superior avatar…as he wheels it through the end of this final paragraph looking relieved… with the season he’s had I think he’ll be pleased to just get this one posted up without any injuries, Clownshoe
Also, for whatever it’s worth, I find this pairing of Derek Foose and Anna Smoothy almost perfect. They’re as good (for my taste, I guess) as Frankie and Dak, and after the last few years I didn’t think that was possible.
And I miss Tabke…you always knew he would have an interesting take on any venue.
That blind takeoff backflip is incredible. Just throwing that after a visual inspection having never hit it before. What the fuck…bananas.
They had walked all up and down that ridge. The footsteps going up to where he dropped the backflip were most likely his. For Chabloz the bottom 3 was the only air that he couldn't know exactly where his landing was going to be and it looked pretty simple from that standpoint
Anyone on the ground in Kicking Horse have any guesses what day the comp is going to run? I’m thinking about making the road trip if it lines up with my days off.
I don't think Kicking Horse is supposed to happen until Feb 10th at the earliest, but I could be wrong. Thought I had heard or read the window was Feb 10 - 15.
Hot lineup for the Nendaz invitational on Saturday - Eder vs Chabloz vs Remco Kayser should be a treat [emoji91]

(So long as the weather is good the 12th is the date.)
Do have some discount tickets.:fm:
The key to a good reoccurring joke is it’s actually supposed to be funny. But you do you and keep on beating that dead straw man.
Woah. This is getting out of hand. I'm passing the torch to total immortal. But One day I'm going to stand in the owens valley and tell my son: someday, this California resort will all be yours!
P.s. Judging from powdorks comments in the tahoe thread I'm not 100% convinced that it's me that doesn't get things [emoji6]
Yikes now I'm getting wrangled into this fracas. I just find it entertaining when someone gets all worked up that their home resort isn't the best at something. Like, does it really matter if Mammoth has a FWT worthy venue? I've never skied Mammoth but it looks sick, and I have stood in the Owen's Valley awestruck by the Eastern Sierra. But the videos posted of the Mammoth venue look like the contest was held in a spot that would be one feature on a FWT face.
RA, my involvement on this forum has been pretty transient and I missed most of the Ogden Scale, so I am far from an expert and would have trouble converting. However, I think someone up-thread said that Guerlain Chicherit loved the Mammoth Venue. He is from Tignes, which has a junior comp but as far as I can tell no adult comp, so I would say Tignes is around a 0.5 mammoths (never been to Tignes, so no idea). We're all in agreement the Bec and Wildseeloder are the best Euro venues, so I would guess they would be right around 1 mammoth, Baqueira was a fun venue so I'd give it 0.8 mammoths, Arcalis this season, despite the poor conditions, was a huge face so 0.85-0.9 mammoths? Nendaz is pretty cool so maybe like 0.75 mammoths?
TahoeJ is only a few points ahead of me in the FunBet, so I really should be focusing on my Kicking Horse picks and stop being unfunny...
^^ Nope, don’t give a shit. Just tired of the repetition as many have pointed out. It’s not the off season and the thread cunting is lame.
It is pretty damn funny. Making jokes will never be 'thread cunting' here.
Pollard. Good vid

Should not have cut off his bottom air though. He did the early takeoff thing that was cool.
The drone shots in the Pollard vid did a good job of conveying the steepness of the venue though. But overall, annoying indeed.
Liking Pollard more and more.
And on a separate note, respect to Derek (I'm pretty sure that's his name) the commentator. He has gotten steadily better, brings good stoke, and he is knowledgeable to the extent that I am learning a lot from listening to him.
I'm new here, how do I post new threads? I need to ask question on tech talk about skis?
KH is probably running a day early on Friday. Not confirmed yet but the weather does not look friendly later.
Don't forget to put in your Fun Bet picks for the Kicking Horse event.
