eldereldo, is that all going to be glued down? And do you do this sort of thing for a living or just fun?
Corners and features will be put down with construction adhesive. I will be routing grooves all around the outside so I can fit them together with the rest of the hardwood to further lock it in place.
It is just for fun, although sometimes I think I make it more like work, than fun.
That is a beauty mac19! It fits right in with the scenery, too... And it looks like you actually use it! Nice work.
Kenai/Russian, Mac?
Buddy had a T-1000 canoe trailer unassembled and rotting in the ivy in the backyard. So, I took the wheel assembly and fenders and built this from scratch. Finished it Veteran's day.
Made a clay sculpture, it cracked when drying

Fixed it with wood putty

Poured Rubber over it

Poured Plaster in the rubber

You people make me envious.
Damn that's nice work...
That is a gorgeous boat
Thanks Schuss... I had fun with that. Kinda like having fun with this, too...
So Franny, just how many relatives do you have (and what will they say when they go to each others house and see they got the same gift?):

I need a new hobby for the wintertime and have limited space. I have a welder, but metal is so damned expensive. This thread is inspiring, to be sure. I'm thinking about attempting some river rock furniture, maybe using metal/welder and rock I scavenge. Anybody know anything about this?
Well this pic is full of win in so many ways. Must be very satisfying.

And that loft MrBigD kics ass. SO much shit here kicks ass. What an eclectic group of talent. Ya know if we could pool all of this talent we'd have..ya know..like a big pool.
So yeah, I gave my mom one with custom colors that bring back memories of an oriental thing she had hanging when we were kids.

I gave my sister one of the "bronze". My mom lives in the shwank in-law apartment at my sisters. :-))
EVERYONE is getting one of these. It takes the stress off of," what am I going to do this year"? I write custom christmas messages on the back before the plaster has set. This is family heirloom type shit... :-))
PM me your address. I want to test out the way these things ship :-))
BTW... I think I recognize that figure on the rock face from a pic you posted? They are very cool and so much better than anything you can possibly buy! Meaningful gift.
Spent the last few years building this. Strawbale walls on the lower level

^^ Tube, why didn't you go straw bale all the way??
I don't know BigD, I don't think I posted this one but Maxfield Parrish holds a special place for me
The Canyon

and i don't see your address in my pm box... I'm serious.
have a good christmas all you talented muther fuckers :)
^^ didnt do strawbale all the way up beause it wouuld have been ridiculously sketchy to go that high. My architect was a crackhead and by the time I figured it out, we were already to far in to change anything else. The end product is cool, but the process was a huge pain. Great technology for one story stuff, but not a 35' tall house.
I saw these plaster castings in person and they really are beautiful :) I'm impressed w/the fact that Frannie never did a cast before and has never even taken a sculpture class. Lots of talent here!
As for the fly-fishing photo that just increased my desire to learn that other fine art one of these days.

Used to be, that's the only way we could stay up all night and finish all the f'n drawings for our projects. We did four days straight once... then went to see the Dead at Barton Hall 1977... literally and figuratively.
Thank God now for computers and large format ink jet printers.
