we were there rocking the pow with Owen
might try to get back thataway tomorrow
Tomorrow and Wednesday looking good.
you headed thataway?
Nah. I have Friday off for a wedding in Orange already. Waiting to hear back on an interview, and if an offer came in I'd take Weds, but as of now I have to work.
Rat farts
I'll be at BV Tue
Question: If the lifts at Bear don't turn until 9:00 AM, how come if I pull into the lot at 9:30 everything but the stashes is already tracked out. It's been a long time since I dragged my ass up there for first chair, but is there like a 200 skier strong first chair crew? It seems unpossible for that amount of tracks to be laid down in 45 minutes.
BOOM!
we'll see GiBo
ok, so
yeah
there is a hard charging crowd at Bear
what started out as a dozen of us in line at 0830 ended up to be about 120 at 0900 when they started loading the lift - pretty much everything from Porridge Bowl to Mokolumne got hit hard right away - it was nothing like Sunday, though
it was way better than Sunday, actually - completely off the hook - light and deep thousand mile an hour snow - I skied bell to bell and was still able to find untracked face shot lines until 4 - town runs were fantastic - the bus was crowded as hell, but I had a cute young snowboarder chick on my lap so all was good
fun to rage with a crowd of local monkeys - it was one of my few ski days where I was not working and did not have my kid with me - nice to get away
pretty much the best damn day of the season
also finally got to meet enlosandes
edit - almost forgot the great carnage at the bottom of Kuma - two dudes eager to get on the chair for the second lap - maybe a little too eager - somehow they manage to misload and wipe out in a hudge pile of large ski dudes and associated crap - we got to heckle the shit out of them - good times
I knew it! My buddy and I were looking up at those tracks and thinking, "There's got to be a huDge crew of local pow hounds that kill this place."
Glad you got in at least one epic day this dismal season, Mike!
Young Owen tied for third overall in the Central Series season for U10 boys with his buddy Jacob from Bear Valley.

Any idea when 108 will open?

sounds like they opened to Eagle Meadows Rd about 20 minutes ago and should be up to Kennedy Meadow tomorrow - no estimate on opening
Thanks, telemike. I tried to find kennedy meadows on the map, no luck.
Is this on the west side of the pass?
I normally park in the first big turn west of the summit, close to the creek.
Is this close?

I found eagle meadows, it seems like they have a lot more to clear.

You suck at maps
Yep, not the only thing I suck@

Kennedy Meadows is where the last gate before the Pass is - there is a campground and a resort with a store and a bar - that's where the road steepens and narrows and there is the most snow - Eagle Mdws Rd is way below there, but it should be easy for them to open from there to Kennedy

THE JCT OF US 395 (MONO CO) /SONORA PASS/ - FOR THE WINTER - MOTORISTS ARE
ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE

Tuolumne County, CA — Motorists can travel farther on Highway 108 Sonora Pass. Caltrans crews have worked to clear debris along the highway up to Kennedy Meadows.
Although there has not been much snow this winter, Caltrans Spokesperson Angela DaPrato says crews have plenty to work on to get the entire pass opened.
“We haven’t had that much snow, but still there is some debris and rocks they need to remove,” says DaPrato, “With the type of equipment that they use it’s hard to get up to the higher elevations so they need to keep the pass closed to get up there and remove those items. Also, they do striping work along the road.”
However, DaPrato says the entire pass could open early this year. Typically, Caltrans tries to have Sonora Pass and Highway 4 Ebbett’s Pass completely opened by Memorial Day Weekend. Yosemite National Park Officials say crews will start plowing operation for Highway 120 Tioga Pass on April 15. That is when an assessment of the roadway will be done so officials will have a better idea of when the entire pass can be opened for the summer.
Thanks
