The 3/1 NWAC Snow Climatology table is out now. Wow, what a difference a couple weeks has made! There are now three reporting stations that are actually over the 30 year normal for snow depth (Stampede Pass at 113%, Paradise at 101%, and Mt Hood Meadows at 108%). My recollection is that on 2/15 the range was somewhere under 40 percent (at Hurricane Ridge) to roughly 80 percent of normal. The lowest value now is Hurricane Ridge at 66% (58 inches of snow).

Started today sunny and cold. Great groomers and supportive styrofoam off piste. After a lunch break it started dumping, like 2” an hour. Picked up a quick 6+” between 1200 and 1500. Really fun day.

Wow , must have been good . How was today ?

Yeah today was awesome. Two day work trip to Seattle and was taking Friday off to ski regardless. Bullseye. That certainly didn’t suck.
The morning was interesting because it was super light pow sort of variably distributed by the wind on an at times uneven, dense base. Good skiing but not brainless. We started skiing more on the lower mountain and were impressed how good the snow was there - way better than normal, and even better than the upper mtn. Northway was superb. Deep, but right side up, with perfect density and a silky texture. Tried to bail after two runs but EH was closed even though the website said open. Skied a short lap to a hilariously long Northway chair line. It was absolutely puking snow from like 1pm onwards including when we left later in the day. It started good and ended great. I feel very happy.
today was excellent despite the lack of southback
got some excellent first tracks in double 00s to start the AM, hiked the throne until the wind made my face numb
the benefit of the raging n wind was that it kept buffing most of the north facing stuff off c6 so it skied great
we were talking about bailing around 1 when we got word northway was open so rallied there asap, missed first tracks but the hike to morning glory still held plenty of goods, found some fun cliffs on the way down to the longest physical lift line I've ever seen in my life (it went pretty quick though)

the line was so long it was like impossible to even be mad, it was just funny
squeezed in another northway before it closed. rode kelly's gap out since gv was closed even though it was only 315?
Eastside mags- Colchuck Consignment has some decent winter stuff, but wanted to mention this in particular- 184 v-werks katanas with kingpins and skins(that could use fresh glue perhaps); full setup for something like $375. Also, the end of winter sale is coming up soon…

How are Stevens Mags feeling about paid parking and reservations for next year? https://blog.stevenspass.com/stevens...update-3-1-24/
Sounds like a bummer for some folks and I’m generally against changes along those lines, but stevens has real issues on big days. Personally I’m not worried because I only get a midweek pass….

At least it seems like it is being implemented in a reasonable manner, not "we're going to gouge you to the extent possible" a la crystal
The comments on socials are amusing. So many people initially praised the 4+ carpool lot policy, then it got expanded to more lots mid-season, and now a significant portion of the desirable parking is now impacted by the reservation system. Now they are feeling differently. It’s also disingenuous that they include the Yodeling and Nordic parking (traditionally overflow) as part of the “67% first-come, first-served” parking capacity. Nobody wants to have to park there and the shuttle experience is terrible.
It will be interesting to see how it is implemented. Like, do you need to be a pass holder or have purchased a ticket for the day of the reservation to secure a spot? Also, since parking in some of those lots can be wonky and variable (i.e. G lot after a pow day), how much capacity will they allot?
The problem isn’t really parking, IMO. The problem is the price of an Epic Local Pass that offers unlimited visits that also offers 10 days at Whistler. That coupled with the price premium for a Crystal-Ikon Unlimited Bend-over and Take It Pass means an influx of lots of new pass holders at Stevens.
I occasionally ski on Saturdays and holidays/peak periods, but typically only have three people in the vehicle. So, now I can pay $20 and make sure I get decent parking. Maybe that will cost me $100-$200 more per season, but sure beats a $100-$200 per pass increase (but that may be coming soon, too). Also, it’s clear being a Passholder doesn’t mean loyalty to Vail or Ikon.
At least their “pow day” parking BS seems to have been shelved for now. That was nonsense.

Did I stumble into the Wasatch thread?

I'm not sure I've ever parked in the lots on the east side of the pass. I always pull into that first entrance (coming from the west) and parked there and those will remain first come, first serve. Is there some reason the lots on the other side are more desirable?
You can ski out on the tree run just outside the boundary kinda near the bottom of big chief. So you get to ski right to your car is the reason its desirable. Also I always end up in those lots as someone coming up from the east side which kinda sucks for us, but its 2mins more driving I guess
Got to experience our first true Crystal crush this morning. Thought we were being clever leaving from Enumclaw but a bad night of sleep killed our departure time just enough to doom us.
Eventually turned around and gave up several miles before the turn. For us it just became too surreal.

Great day up high at Snoqualmie - most open terrain even at lower elevations was good after the new snow last night.

Left Kirkland at 6 yesterday . Hit the 410 junction at 7. Lots of cars but pretty quick up to the lot for an 8am arrival . Some asshat on the boulevard had already found the ditch in their Subaru .. first time driving in snow ? Wtf. But yes need to hit that 410 junction by 715 latest on a busy day . Like Thursday was surprising how many people had gotten up there early but once they got everything going the lines weren’t bad at all .

I don't know Crystal that well as I've only hit it a handful of times, but damn Friday and Saturday were good. Northway was real nice Friday afternoon, and not too shabby Saturday morning either.
Danko, good to meet you and make some turns. Fantastic timing indeed on that work trip!
Saturday was great too. I've never been out towards southback, and due to my partner being an out of shape snowboarder...we did not go the whole way, but best run of the year dropping into what looks like the Hamburger zone.
Attachment 489139This is from lap number two.
Going to be in walla walla next weekend for a family event. Have Saturday free anyone have any advice on Anthony Lakes vs Bluewood as to where I should go?
Open to any other suggestions w/in a day trip of that area too.
Bluewood is closer, great tree skiing with new snow, nice winding groomers, low key vibe.
Anthony Lakes is great, more likely to have good snow with it’s 7800’ base. Not as much vertical as Bluewood but better fall line and again really nice glades/trees. Great old school vibe. Probably 2-2.5 hours with good roads.
We’re heading to AL this week for $30 Thursday.

thanks for the info! I'll see what conditions are like and go from there. I'll pop back in here to see if you add anything too.
have a great trip!
