Where are you skiing?
Have fun!
We are looking for several more members for our our Kirkwood ski lease. It's a classic
1970s three bedroom two bath with a deck and a large loft, located on Dangberg near Fremont.
It has a fully equipped kitchen with new appliances. The approximate square footage counting loft is
around 1800 square feet. An equipment room means you don't have to lug your gear back and forth.
There is shuttle service to the lifts so you can just park your car for your entire stay.
Cost depends on the number of members; we're thinking of 10 members at $1300 each for the entire season,
plus utilities minus guest fees. The lease runs from December 1 through the end of April. Members can
bring guests for $30/night. The house sleeps 12 comfortably.
PM me if interested and I can send photos and additional details.
ASI was great for AVI 1.
Don't loose hope yet for this weekend either.
You know...the $76 resort...
SV wrod.
We did - mostly (fun)
Seemed like Family Day, lots of kids.
Wrod held up ok. Kinda firm yet corny - it was sunny then windy (one Tele guy on Spatulas!)
Almost bumps forming, but not really badly crowded - had to stand in line at GoldCoast in the morning (more peeps yesterday we heard)
Looks like one more day of kickass mountain biking, conditions are killer right now. Even felt a bit like winter getting chased by Nacho as I rode past Powdork today :D
Couple shots from today

we've been working on his bike tackling skills but he got thrown off by the fat tires.
Is anyone making an attempt at putting in some laps this weekend? Thinking about getting after it on sunday morning, was thinking somewhere off of carson spur, anyone got any suggestions?
What kind of laps? I would not expect enough snow to lap near the spur just yet. Maybe S bowl by Sunday but most of that snow was rained out with the last storm.
And nope. Will wait.
In other news, the surf was super fun this morning. Like super fun.
Showers started around 7 in Napa.
keep up with those surf forecasts from the desert, classic
Snowing in Truckee! Yeehaw. Squaw was dry dry dry today, no surprise. Could have mountain biked down the same hill as the WROD. Bring it, storm!
2-3" in truckee right now

Rain came in hard here (in the desert?) at 5:50 this morning. Lighter now, but lots of water running I. The street. Surf is not as excellent today. Damn south winds. Bring on the heavy snow.
Slushy mess at 6300' near Alpine. Snowed a few inches overnight, then rain/snrain through the morning. Wasn't here to ski, but was hoping for something a bit more winter-like. Eh, we need the water, even if it's not falling in my preferred form. The surf has been awesome at least.
Took a few laps on Gold Coast today. Rain/Slush in the lot with and some wet-ish snow at the top. Snow wasn't terrible, it is real after all. Seems to be sticking up there. Yes, the precip is nice.
Got kicked off the mountain on my first run of the season

Nice guy. Mellow approach. Good on you for not giving him shit. Sort of a grey area....
Well now is a great time to hit the PCT...
Heh. You should have told him those were your rock skis.
That made my night. Wonderful

Took a little walk on donner pass today to see if anything was skiable....haha I'm moving to Switzerland in a bit and was trying to get some Sierra laps in, was pretty but nothing remotely skiable. Hopefully mid week y'all will get some boards on the ground! Donner defiantly seemed like it had some decent base building snow!
'remotely skiable' is in the eyes of the beholder
Heading to Northstar in a few hours. Anyone need a ride from the bay? Leaving east bay at 5:15 and San Fran at 5:35.
POWDORK!! Give me the tip!! Where would you ride in these conditions!! ? I was gonna check out Waterhouse on my way out mañana and drive the spur and see if anything is skiable!! Suggestions?
north shore is where most of the snow fell (9-12" vs 2-4"). watch the radar to see where it falls again tonight. sugar bowl has or had an uphill skiing policy in effect for a fee. waterhouse takes a lot of snow to be good so i would avoid that tomorrow. some of the slopes at sierra could be good as well as some at alpine if it comes in good tonight at lower elevations (these are not necessarily kosher with the management). there are some other options but they are more of a commitment full day thing and it sound like you're looking for a quick hit.
my main point was that the stuff in your picture looks at least remotely skiable
I think I may know a spot, but I may also get shut down. I'll let you know later. Either way, it should definitely be good at the end of the week
Probably going out for a tour Tues morning on Donner Summit.
Are there any low key skimo/randonee races in the Tahoe area? Utah had a night race series with a big range of people doing it that was kind of fun.
Bear Valley usually does a race in the spring. Not sure about any in the Tahoe area
Clay, the answer is no. But there's no reason why not. The resorts could use some education but I'm sure one of them would like to make themselves look a little different. There is demand with all the strong backcountry and bike communities. I talk to people all the time about it. How about we get one started?
Rose or diamond peak would work best to draw from Reno and both ends of the lake.
Words of caution: It's not as easy as you think. I've done it. Liability insurance, dealing with ski resorts, FS permits, etc...
Good luck if you try. I'd partner with a shop like Alpenglow.
Mt Rose was always very easy to work with.
I was just about to suggest we contact telemike and JSheffitz LOL
But yeah, it's going to take some sweat and elbow grease.
I might be able to assist a bit.
kirkwood used to have one, the Marmot 6 Summit Peak Pursuit but I think it left around 2010
don't forget money - that's why you need retail and/or corporate partners - otherwise you'll just spend your own money so you can organize and run a race that you won't be able to participate in - which brings us to volunteers - you need a lot of peeps to pull it off - unless the ski area is willing to provide staff you'll be working the race not racing it
I know races run on volunteers, but I think the best place to start is a Monday or Wednesday night sprint series that's very informal -like a meet up almost- and just involves skinning up a designated route to a turnaround and back down. Hopefully less than an hour RT. Gives the resort a chance to develop an uphill route and policy with very little personnel involvement and disruption of activity on the hill. Also develops the racing community organically.
