I wouldn't suggest it. China Peak's snow report today was reporting rain and it was 48 F at 330 today. Take your bike out on the river trail instead!Quote:

Was up there today. Everything off-piste was basically unskiable, but the groomers were great and they groomed a lot of terrain. Only had to wait in lift lines a few times for a short amount of time. This was my first time there and I was impressed with the terrain. Looks like it would be awesome on a powder day with widely spaced trees and some steeps.Quote:

Despite getting slid into by some dumbass on the way to China Peak , we went onwards and had the best day of skiing I have had in years! 12 inches of snow when I rolled up, 24inches when I left, and snow level down to 3k. I got legitimate face shots and white rooms for the first time and years..., wish I had picture, but it was puking too hard.
Now time for a beer and nice chat with my insurance company. CHEERS!

After some of the most incredible days I've ever had at China Peak this week, I headed out to Bear Butte with my Dad's dog, Kaiser.... he's been on lots of spring tours, but this was his first taste of powder, and I think he at least sort of liked it.

To answer anyone's question of "is it corn yet?" the answer is no, it's mashed potatoes.
In terms of the freeze/melt cycle, the melt part has been happening super well, it was 35 degrees at 7 am in Huntington (7000ft).
But like the idiots we are, we went up Kaiser Peak anyways.....

we had a few hundred vertical feet of good turns before it turned to slop below 9,500, and after that, my best turns were on a frozen driveway in Lakeshore
All in all though, it was still a good time, and I was more than happy to share it with just my dad, and not a single other person, on the "busiest ski weekend of the year" (just another reason to love CenCal).
But don't come here, it sucks.

Yeah we're crushing the slush and skittering on the refrozen chunder around here at DR. Probably much the same at BV. Looks like some snow later this week.

It's not often the lower mountain gets pummeled like this on a week day.
Rare day off today and for once I'm just not going skiing. Too much crap to do around the house and a busy weekend coming up.
I feel your pain. I have today off too, but I had made plans with my fishing buddy for today last week and can't flake. I almost pulled the "no friends on a powder day" on him, but that ain't right. May hit it Sunday though...Quote:

Didn't make it up yesterday, but China Peak skied nicely today. Pretty sure we didn't get as much snow as was called for, but there was a solid 8" of cream cheese. It made for an excellent day, but the warmth is ruining the snow fast

It was good. Some sharks, but not bad.
CP Fri-Sun. I'll be herding racers for Friday training and Sat-Sun racing, but I'm sure I'll have a chance to make a few turns without the monkeys.
I love CP. That's where I learned to tele, took my first real backcountry tours, and had my first avalanche training. Fun to be there with my family.

Snow has been holding up well. Good slush to crush. Not too sticky. Buttery goodness.
Forecast looking good. I have a couple DR vouchers for any beaters who want to come visit. Can offer a place to stay.
Never skied BV or DR. If Sun storm pans out what will lift ops look like Mon? Would be driving up from the Bay Area. Feeling a cough that will likely keep me out of the office on Mon or Tues. Thanks.
BV will probably be good if they can get Griz Bowl open. More of an AC issue than lift ops. Takes awhile to deal with the main mountain before Griz. Could realistically be Tuesday before Griz opens and it will be sick. That place gets chunderd pretty quick. Hardcore local folks hit it hard.
DR should be pretty good. We don't have a lot of steep terrain, but we will get everything open ASAP and you can find untracked all day usually.
Thanks Mike. May lean towards BV on Tues as a safer bet.

As everyone who ski at DR tells everyone who doesn't ski there "Don't go there. It sucks. You won't like it."
Been pretty damn good last two days. Should be good all week.
BV did not get as much as anticipated. Griz open today. Will be good tomorrow.

Work got in the way last two days but being stubborn despite the forecast went to BV this morning. Wet, sticky. Griz never opened. Fun mountain though.
Early load day for passholders and loaded the lift as first public at 740 this morning. My first few runs were some of the best of my life and only shared with a few others. Props to Cohee for really stepping up China Peak's game this year!
Tomorrow is lining up to be a day to Dodge. I want to play in the boulders.Quote:
