Definitely won't be trading them :)
But I'll be in touch if for mounting if I'm heading down to Kelowna (or we could link up when you're through Revy?)
Anyone have any beta on highwood pass for the weekend?
Sure thing, Awedor. Always happy to pick ups and drop offs in Revy if it works out. "sorry babe, have to go to Revelstoke for business again..."
last weekend Highwood was OK, a little wins scoured. I did not hit any rocks but there were plenty sticking out
Tonight through Friday, upslope areas should get 5 to 10. Not much love after that: early week looks Chinook-like.

EVERYONE GETS TO SKI Gearing Up to Gear Up Local Kids for a
Fifth Ski Season
Free Rentals and Free Lessons are New for 2011/2012
Banff, Alberta (October 18, 2011)- Ski and snowboard season is just weeks away in the Bow Valley and Everyone Gets to Ski is once again reaching out to the community to answer the call for donations for the annual ski and snowboard gear program to make sure that local kids get the free gear they need to hit the slopes.
Everyone Gets to Ski was created in response to the generous program by the Banff Lodging Company to provide free Mt. Norquay season ski passes to all Banff Elementary School and Banff Community High School students. New for the 2011/2012 season, the program will also be offering free ski lessons through the Banff Alpine Racers and free ski rentals at select locations in Banff.
“Skiing can be a very expensive activity, especially when kids outgrow their gear each year,” says Everyone Gets to Ski co-founder and Canadian ski legend Felix Belczyk. “Our program makes sure that regardless of family income, local kids have access to the proper equipment and right sized gear so they can use their free ski passes. We are thrilled that the program is even more comprehensive this year with the addition of free equipment rentals and free ski lessons.”
Donations and a one-day gear swap enabled the Everyone Gets to Ski program to outfit 90 locals in 2009 and 92 in 2010. This year’s goal is to provide gear for 100 kids but it cannot be done without support from the community and businesses.
Donations of new or used equipment, including boards, skis, boots, poles, helmets, goggles, gloves and ski suits can be dropped off at the Banff Elementary School gymnasium on Friday, November 4 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and from 9:00 am to 11:30 am on Saturday, November 5.
“Each year we also encourage past participants of the program to return the gently-used gear they have outgrown so they receive proper fitting gear and so that we can pass the equipment on to another worthy recipient,” adds Belczyk.
Volunteers will be on hand to help outfit kids in the proper donated gear on Saturday, November 5 from noon until 4:00 pm in the gymnasium at the Banff Elementary School.

I might be heading up to Banff/LL in January. Does anyone have an opinion on the Aspen Lodge in Banff? The reviews look generally positive. I don't need luxury, but I'd rather not stay in a total dive either!
I've stayed at the Aspen Lodge. Not super fancy, but I wasn't worried about bedbugs either. Close enough to walk everywhere, but far enough from the bars to be quiet. Parking lot was big enough for me to park my 3/4 ton 4x4 comfortably.
Thats an awesome program! I wish I had some old skis sitting around. I'm trying to convince my wife she needs new skis and she goes for it, I'd donate her old ones (which are basically kids skis they are so short). Wouldn't be in time for this weekend obviously, but I assume they would take donations year round?
can take donations year round, but in the fall is best. THe program is only once a year for the give away

Lamonthe to the courtesy phone with a Highwood conditions update, Lamonthe to the courtesy phone.
He's probably somewhere around Longview right now trying to figure out where the pass is.
Heh, anyone know where I should go to find a replacement piece for my Dynafit Freeride Aero boots? Just noticed I'm missing one of the walk/ski locking bars (black metal strip). It broke just below the hinge down low on the heel and must have fallen off when the boot was in walk mode.
Generic photo of boot from the internet.

That must be why I was turning in a circle the end of last season.

@0:58 in this slide show.
It was pretty wind fucked and starting to wind slab but there was a few hidden gems in wind protected areas. Hit one rock on the ski out other then that its relatively safe for skis. The up track was still pretty bare however. kind of a long walk for a few OK turns but hey beats sitting on the couch.
Just throwing this in here as well. I have 3 tickets to the Chixdiggit show in Calgary next Thursday and the plan has come apart and they can't be used. $20 face value plus service charges but I just want to make some cash back and see the tickets used. Start at $15 each.
Haha, just having fun with Lamothe. You gotta love his enthusiasm.
And while he was making turns, I was trying to find my way out of the human maze that is Ikea, so he definitely gets the last laugh.
Snowfall warning in effect for southern Alberta and Kananaskis. Unfortunately no snowfall warning for Banff/Lake Louise. Nakiska might be the place for fresh powder this weekend! Who would of thought? :fmicon:
Looks like I picked a good weekend to come back to AB for a visit.
Its actually getting a little white in the city today!
so.. anyone thinking of heading from the city to the mountains this weekend? this snow is getting me antsy for some turns
Sounds like 15 cm on the Parkway from Weeping Wall to the Crossing. Not much north and no report yet south (Bow).
I dont want to get bashed for opening a new thread so does any of you guys know any operation out of Calgary that is organizing a pow-roadtrip for 7-8 days? Im traveling alone so for safety reason I need something similar to the french UCPA or any other org/company that gathering good Skiers for a road trip.
There was an advisory for the Bow Valley. Banff had more than Canmore, only a light amount on the Spray around Commonwealth, and further along it looked like this:

Nice work, looks like you succeeded in thoroughly spreading the shralp around for the weekenders..
i just came.
ps: you didn't take lamothe with you? :nonono2:
^We generally try to keep our group at 4 as a max....well, unless we want to track up an area I guess lol.
i'm sorry, i missed a smiley face in my previous post. he's the keenest of them all, and to have missed this... i think he may give up on tgr :)
Nice turns. Looks like its pretty low density. Love when that stuff piles up for days. If you feel like marking of your calendar I'd bet on late next week again. The weather is often no kind to the weekend crowd lol...
In mcflatland its -10 and the grass is still green, frosty but green. :nonono2:
lol...nah, he'll be back.
Powdery goodness. Just enough crust to keep you off the ground, yet couldn't really feel the crust at all while skiing.Quote:

Very nice pics. I have a feeling those turns might be a touch sweeter than the ones i'm going to get at Norquay tomorrow.
looks rad! you guys sure aren't as friendly as the whistler folk for meeting up and getting some turns in, though. seems quite hush-hush
T2C,
nicely done. Was Aqua Toque part of your posse?
I'd meet up with you or anyone for some turns if I was back in calgary... I have to work until December probably, but I'll be in the area afterwards, and hoping it'll be an epic month. (The lack of sun/cold in december helps the snow retain its fluffiness longer... er thats what I'm going with for now.)Quote:
