Thanks, N, I just hooked up with a buddy from South Shore, we will be leaving SS between 8 and 9, I will say hi if I see you.
got in a post harpo lap with ottime. hot damn it was better than yesterday. the resort? still not open.
mind boggling.
Nice times at the Alpine Meadows Skinning Resort with UCL, Enginerd, and 75 of our favorite friends. A ton of people on the hill today - skins, snowshoes, alpine trekkers, booting it, you name it!!
Snow ... was ... Awesome. Hit bottom once, and a rock once, but otherwise very consistent, light and deep. Faceshots were had.
Windloading up top really picked up midday though, and exposed aspects are already windscalped up high. We found a storm instability that reacted easily in one really windloaded area, so something to keep an eye for with tonight's windloading.
It got slayed HARD, but the wind is refilling right now.
today. didn't get as many pictures

and remember, none of this would be possible without the hard work of sierra avalanche center

ok it would all be possible, but still, they do good work and their funraiser starts in 20 minutes at the american legion. it is also a benefit for shejumps.org with lots of fun stuff. there. $5 cover.
Leaving elk grove now. Be there in 2 hours
I met two folks at the top of the Wall (okay, just under the cliff band) at 4PM today. They were headed to the fundraisers. The only other Bay Area folks I met on the hill today. Good stoke and 4K of earned blower.
Extended the stay, so I'll be skinning early. It got hammered out there today, but still plenty of great options. I know a fw things I'd like to hit. Only problem is that they are about a mile apart on the ridge.
Limitied internet time at the inn, but here are a few. Apologies for camera (or human) malfunction, but jesus, the snow was killer.
Powdork launches into oblivion.

Going for broke and heading up with Trekkers for a day trip from SF. I expect hugs from everyone.
our hope is to be there with the sun
Also heading up. 666, PM inbound for carpool options.
Hopefully you bastards left me some fresh tracks!
good beta, thanks. any place specific you were finding really heavy wind loading? the cornice above alpine bowl was starting to look nasty around noon and NWS was showing steady west wind, so I'm thinking maybe east aspects over towards wolverine side is a better bet for tomorrow. thoughts?
Saw some folks. Skied some lines. Had fun. And the top of two man was about as good as it gets. Welcome winter. Now, will someone open up a lift or something? I mean, the hill is pretty much tracked out.
Nice shots Ottime & Powdork
Kirkwood was surprisingly good today. Snow was still light and only scraped a few lurking rocks. Can't complain about those type of pow turns in early November.
Climbing this fall has been nice, but now I've got my fingers crossed for another storm later this week.
Welcome winter, indeed.
Haha. Pow, friends, exercise, bluebird and no wind. As for Kirkwood, I think every zone that would be good in low-tide has been skied. Snow was setting up a bit when I left due to the sun.
soooo good to live days like today!!!!
Two pic trip report ...
Saturday: UCL blew a head gasket and started throwing smoke during the one of the few moments of good light ... bell to bell powder day

Sunday: Somewhere in this photo Kevin Quinn is getting neckdeep (that might the LAST time I leave my Canon 7D at home on a bluebird pow day)

So very much grateful for this weekend.
^^would have been a better pic if i could have popped more but the snow just gave way under me.
and yeah, we're trying to get him on the red/blue plan.
speaking of which. do you have tail clips on your splitter skins?
^^^I was thinking the same thing today. Need to find out what Schralph is sporting AND if only you had popped more.
So much fun. I'm still reviewing the past few days in my head.
Awesome weekend! Is there anything not tracked out yet? Looking to head out again tomorrow.
Remind me when I tour with you guys to bring my red pants / blue shell. I'm a snowboarder, so it's okay to be backwards, right?
And yes, and no, on the tail-clips. Just have him email me and I can tell him what the deal is. Atypical conditions this weekend for Tahoe regulars/locals who aren't used to such cold snow and needing to keep the glue warm & clean when skinning (that, plus typical beginning of the season not having your stuff dialed, which happens to us all) ... 3 people I went with had skin issues over the weekend!
just found out: sierra passes include squaw and alpine from opening to 12/21 and from 4/15-closing. pretty sweet!
