Just picked up a PWS MK116 rifle off GunBroker. Will be my first AR- I've been waiting to buy this rifle for 2+ years since I bought 30 round mags before the CO ban on >15 round mags.

Thinking I'm going to looking into getting a tax stamp to get a suppressor. I want to protect my hearing after seeing my dad loose his hearing entirely by his late 50s.
I used to own one of those--truly fantastic rifles, you'll love it. Can take a beating and will shoot more or less anything you feed it.
I've since moved over to the MK220, an AR10 in .308. It's super fun, too, though much more of a pig.
Regarding hearing protection, nothing wrong with using ear pro in the meantime. I use those $60 over-the-ear electronic ones from Allen or whomever and they seem to work really well. You can hear everything but it cancels high decibel events.
Have fun...PWS simply makes great shit.
Thanks man!
I became interested in PWS from seeing your posts about the rifle you got after making the Smith /PWS video back in the day. I've wanted one ever since. I've recently spent a lot of time investigating ARs and was kinda torn between BCM, Daniel Defense and PWS, but decided to go PWS because of the advantages of gas piston over DI. I might have gone with a .308 version, except the only mags I have that are grandfathered in to be CO legal are 223/556 mags.
I picked up the MK116 for $1,629 + shipping and FFL transfer. It was one of the better prices I've seen in two years of casually looking.
Went out to a friend's range last night where he had everything from 50 yard paper to 1600 yard plates. Got to shoot out to 1000 for the first time and hit with my second shot (first was 4" right) using my Tikka .300WM with Vortex Viper PST and hand loads. That rifle which I refer to as "Mad Max" due to it's Frankstein styling straight out-shot these guys' $7K setups all night long. Only mods are a brake and a lightened trigger, plus a DIY pipe-insulation comb.
Anyone who thinks you can get a better value than Tikka is out of their mind.
What is in a suppressor that makes it so expensive? Is there a whole maze in there or something?
More than 2 years ago I bought 30 round magazine in anticipation of the CO ban.
Less than two months ago, I didn't own any firearms.
I've now got this setup-

PWS MK116 and Glock 43.
I've got a couple upgrade coming for the PWS rifle (PMAG QD sling, BMC short keymod vertical forgrip) and I think I'll get a 1-6 vortex scope once I get proficient with MBUS sights, but after that I'm done for a while.
I remember saying that when I first started buying guns about 5 years ago... now I have 10 guns and can think of more I'd like to pick up... I think a Smith and Wesson shield or Walther PPS is next. Oh, also an AR15 pistol in .300 blackout. And I guess I'd like a .243 or .260 bolt action gun for my wife. Oh, and a semi auto shotgun (Mossberg 930 JM pro maybe?). And damn, the Ruger Redhawk in .44 is sweet. But I don't always want to shoot .44, so maybe I'll pick up a GP100 in .357 to match. And I would like an antique 1911. Speaking of antiques, an early 1900s Winchester Lever Action would sure be a nice thing to have. Also, if those M1 Garands ever get re-imported I'd better grab a few of them...
glock 43 is for little girls
Nice rifle. You talking about the Magpul ASAP sling mount? If so, you might want to reconsider. I have them on a few guns, but never use them because I really don't like a 1 point sling (preference). They're also all metal which is good for durability, but it causes the mount to rattle. I plastidipped the mounting loops on mine to silence them, but would probably pull them off and throw them away if I ever had a reason to remove the castle nut. I prefer to use the qd socket on the magpul stocks and a DD or other rail mount qd socket on the side of the front rail & I think that the Viking VTAC sling is the cat's meow. YMMV.
Vortex's new 1-6 Strike Eagle is pretty good if you don't mind the reticle. Glass isn't that great, but far better than the majority of competitors at that price point. I got one for my buddy at the beginning of June and he hasn't missed a coyote in his backyard since.
When you get tired of cleaning it (get a .22 cal boresnake!) consider replacing the bolt & carrier with NiB coated stuff and/or take the time to froglube it. If you've got a reliable gun, you can pretty easily go 5000+ rounds between cleaning running froglube and not have to do much more than clean the bore/chamber and break down & wipe off the bolt, carrier, firing pin, etc.
Happy shooting.

My wife and I got a bunch of 30 rounders at the airdrop in Glendale before the standard capacity law went into effect...I still need to get an AR-type to put over them!
Thanks man. There are a couple QD points on the PWS buffer tube and also a couple points on the rail to enable a 2 point sling. No rattle at all on the QD point on the buffer tube, but the QD point on the rail felt a little strange and would rotate with metal on metal and cause wear on the rail. I added a Noveske keymod QD swivel mount, which seems to be a bit more secure. I like the ability to go from single point to two point in about 1 second.
I'm not too worried about cleaning since the bolt and bcg are already Nickel Teflon coated (see docs here)and it runs on a long stroke piston system. Do you have an opinion of Nickel Teflon (NP3) vs NiB? Everything I've seen says Nickel Teflon is a little better from a friction standpoint and is a little more corrosion resistant. This is what I was reading.
Took it to the range today and had decent groupings at 25 yrds with iron sights-

There were a couple errant 9mm rounds from my Glock 43.
Nice
Been looking at AR-10s lately. Wot you guys got and how well do you like it?
I am leaning toward a 20" barrel for both target and hunting.
Kevo: Not familiar w/ the Nickel Teflon coating, but I'm sure it'll serve you well. In a piston gun, it isn't even that hard to keep a phosphated carrier clean.
Scotty: Love my SR25's, but if I weren't behind enemy lines I would absolutely build another 308 using a Mega Maten ambi lower, and the mega maten megalithic upper. Sick stuff, good value. I have quite a few mega 556/multi lowers (both billet and forged) and they're good to go. My bench AR15 is a mega billet lower w/ their old discontinued billet monolithic upper. It's every bit as solid as my billet Vltor lower & VIS upper which cost twice as much. I'll be very, very jealous if you build one. Don't skimp on the barrel :)

Not quite what I am looking for but I like those uppers and lowers.
MM is in my price range, that MK220 is nice but prycee! Will keep an eye on these anyway. THX for the leads.
Yep, that's it. Outside of that shitty MOE pistol grip, I'd be very happy with that exact setup. Git some.
10-4, I be puttin it on mah radar.
thrownin this up here as no local interest, $350 + ship CONUS

^^^ they're fun. I have a slidefire stock that works basically the same way.
Wasn't expecting this until the end of summer so I was pleasantly surprised when the Fedex man left this on the doorstep yesterday:

Just came in from zero'ing. I pulled it on and off the rail a few times to see how the qd mount (American Defense Recon 30) did on returning to zero. No problems. I was planning on using a larue lt104 for this optic as it's served me well on other rifles, but I have to say this ADM is every bit as good as the larue, if not better. I think the way it clamps to the rail is much more solid & repeatable than the system larue uses. It's about $50 cheaper & you don't need any tools to adjust the qd's.
