Not me.... nice place huh, family has a house up the road from the soccer field.
I have not surfed Pavones in 15 years but that is still one of my favorite waves/places I've been. I heard they built a hotel or resort south of the river that kind of ruined the aesthetics but I would still love to return and find out for sure.
It has been a rainy week in SoCal, this is the longest I've been out of the water all winter. Hopefully back at it tomorrow, though nothing forecast with much size until around Wednesday.
I did pick up a new toy for the summer, I found a 5'6" Pyzel Mini-ghost on Craigslist that was too cheap to pass up. It will be a lot of fun for the days that are below head high at the beach breaks. Blacks, Oceanside, etc.
it's changed some since then. The road is now about 2/3 paved and the masses are coming.more places to eat. more beginner surfers showing up from the north on their lil 10 day vacations. Luckily they sit was on the inside when it's under head high... when I gets bigger than that they can't make it out... more crowded in the lineup but the local boys get the best wave first light in the morning... still the wild west in pavones. It's real Costa rica... up north is a joke these days. You should go back... same wave same Pura vida.
Surf was decent up here for a few weeks, while the forum was down. Nothing epic. Spring time waves. A steady small to moderate south combo with varying degree of northwest wind and small ground swell. And the locals winds cooperated for two to four days each week to provide options on where to surf. Pretty quiet and chill line ups and the surfing hanging out around head high. Finally switched over to MTB the past week after a little bought of rain refreshed all the dirt. And the spring winds started to kick up in earnest.
This place is still alive...what a strange spring.
It has been pretty good in SoCal the past 2 months, I have been able to surf decent conditions almost every day. The big swell we had in early April was the best week of swell we had, it was really good up in the Oceanside area. Blacks has been consistently good before work.
I joined a group of friends down in Patole this past week. What a place. Rides over a minute long consistently and I surfed all morning until the winds would come up in the late morning. We had a bit of a slow start to the week and some wind issues but the last 3 days of the trip were just perfect conditions. Offshore until 7-8am, glass until 10 or 11. 6-8 feet of swell and it was just ride after ride after ride with 4-12 guys out generally. I was a little concerned beforehand that the wave would be a bit mushy for a thruster but once it is overhead it just lines up perfectly for any board. If you ever get the opportunity to go, jump at it.
Damn. Patole is on my list. I’ve been told that it is always booked out every year. I’ve tried contacting them a few times and never even receive a reply.

I did not handle any of the logistics for this but I thought that I overheard that there were some cancellations in June and late summer and there were some open spots. It may be worth reaching out again, I would probably use Instragram and DM the Sinaloa Surf Adventures handle. On one hand it is crazy how they don't even have a website or any real advertising effort but I guess if you are always booked you do not really need to worry about that kind of stuff.
I'm at the end of the world, and there's surf.
It also sounds like there's a lot of drama going on at the end of the world. The bulldozers made the news a couple of weeks ago but I haven't heard anything since...any recent developments?
Old news ott.... it's been talked about for years.my brother said the government said they will not do any more demolition for 36 months... our house is not going to be affected. 4th house on the right up the street from the soccer field. Let them build, it will o ly make the price of our house worth more.
And when I say end of the world I meant finsterra and muxia spain
There is a great run of swell lining up for this weekend down here. I'm going to try to wrap things up early tomorrow and hit up the Trestles kingdom.
This weekend does look pretty good. It was slow to start today but should be solid through next Tuesday. Then maybe hurricane swell to follow? The next 2 weeks could line up pretty well.If you haven't gone yet, bring some extra rubber. Water temps dropped about 10 degrees since last weekend.
Wetsuits and line up full of kooks....
