Love the end of season, locals days.
Love the end of season, locals days.
Funny you say that. I saw a lot of familiar faces today, but we had more visitors at KW today than typical. By far. The IFSA brought some life to the valley this past week. And some women. It felt weird when I grabbed a burger at 7800' the other night and the ration was almost 1:1 instead of the typical 10:1.
Good luck to your off spring offpiste. It should be a killer event tomorrow.
I had plenty of luck today. Felt stomach flu-ish when I woke up, so called of touring (which I sure was amazing as well), got into line late at 9:20, but 5 minutes before the next 150 folks. Put me on 15th chair. 10 popped soon after, but it had a longer line and by the next lap 6 was super short. By then I was just lapping Pali 7/6 laps, until the 10 line went down. Showed up for the Eagle opener. Then did two more Pali laps with some mags, and then decided to check out 4. There were concerns of lines and all the little rippers, etc, but when I got back there it was absolutely empty. Kept bumping into familiar faces, so that was cool, but roll right onto the lifts and find your line emptiness. I called it, so I could get home to pick up my family from the airport. I showed up almost an hour early. Should have taken one more. Excellent day out there and pretty stoked on KW for getting the whole place open. I did not expect that.
Climberevan, who is dead to me now, has fallen in love with wheels. From the paucity of tracks in hourglass today at 4pm, I'm guessing most of those who would have tracked out the foot+ of blower on a weekend have also forgotten about winter.

It can't be a sleeper day when the resorts are sending out advanced "pow day!" emails. It's just early April and the bay area has fully shifted into spring mode, since people for some reason insist on skiing the calendar instead of the snow. Which is great, except for when places like Kirkwood close down early. Hope elevations don't get too high later this week and we get some actual sleeper days.
Yesterday was an all time day at KW, no lines and I was skiing on fresh at the end of the day. Today... I don't know yet, traffic is backed up to east of Caples lake spillway
Snowmass had the entire upper mountain on wind hold yesterday while rain fell intermittently.
Not what I had in mind for feeling like home.
Haha Kirkwood ran out of parking today! Sheriff turned everyone around. Nuts. 6 lot (which is like half its normal capacity due to the snowbanks) was full by 8. Tower lot full at 815.
Bizarro day, 10 loaded before 6, and we got to top of 10 before there were butts in seats on 6.
Got 6 okay laps off vista before noon, and it was pretty good. Cold light wind keeping things from getting too soupy so far. Fuck this place for closing with so much coverage. Anyways, looks like I'll be on skins the rest of the season ...
Did you get there late? The lines on 6 and then 10 were about as long as they get there in the morning.
Snow was great, backside even better, but not quite all time. But then again, I've skied it when there is no one around and the entire mountain is open. With better snow than yesterday. So I set a pretty high bar before I call it all time.
Yesterday was excellent tho
cmon maaaan get off his cloud. he didnt say your all-time.
yesterday we got spoiled with snow holding tough and even improving today, but today its more like a typical april pow day (shoulda been hiking in the dark)
should hold another day or 2 on steep north but then we will be in transitional limbo. might be time to do the once a season wax after too much glopping with skins off today
Comment retracted. But not deleted. Everyone knows I'm an ass anyway, so one can usually just ignore my comments.
Lots were also full at Squaw and Alpine today as well. What happened to the supposition that nobody skis in April?
Alpine was actually empty until 10 and then it was like the dam broke and suddenly it was people people people everywhere with an army of ants streaming toward High T.
Apparently that was wishful thinking on my part...
Saturday was fast and fun. Nice that the Spur stayed shut for a little. Sucks when they are slow to open and the masses are stuck. Still had a blast. Front was a Ghost Town once 4 popped. Good enough yesterday it did not even matter today that I had to park further away than I have in a decade, we brought the little guy for magic carpet rides, and managed to schlep it all in one trip. Based on the amount of rental gear I saw this weekend it probably was all time for a few. Fun April Weekend all in all.

Sugar Bowl on Saturday.. it was tits. It was my first time there and I was impressed. There are some fun things there.
Squaw today.. it was also tits. Those first 4 or so runs in Silverado were sick. Also my first time over in Silverado, Granite, Broken arrow... man these places are sick.
Also, does anybody have a pair of GPOs for sale around here? Size 182.. been on the lookout for a pair and not in a rush to purchase, but I like to keep my eyes peeled.
2 and 4 were also a ghost town. Pretty much everyone else was tied to the IFSA event and were in the T bar and either at the top or bottom of Vista. Not really sure why, as visibility seemed too poor to judge an event. I thought they were doing a course check, but Vista was open to the public today.
Awesome getting out there with your little guy today. Any and all effort put forth now will make an awesome ski buddy later. My guy is turning 6 next month, and I had as much tooling around the hill with him this year as any powder day I've had. It is still a little work, but it is mostly a blast.
The leftovers at Heavenly were light and fluffy.

No lift lines either.
We knew if we were breaking trail at this point the stoke factor was heading to an Eleven today

Sure most folks in south lake saw this today, think it prolly went yesterday afternoon

Based on last weekend, I said KW would be dead this weekend. Wrong-o. Cars almost out to the highway at 10 today (Sunday). No lines to speak of, though, but I didn't spend a ton of time in the popular places, mostly chilled with my nieces on bunny. Snow wasn't fast all day but never really slushed up -- in fact I was surprised at how firm the packed stuff was.
Sentinal bowl had huge moguls by the end of the day, bigger than I've ever seen, but at least they were soft.
Didn't make it up the hill until Saturday afternoon as we had another event going on in the morning, so the spur closure wasn't an issue. Highway was bare by 4pm.
Nice shots. I see you were on the Nevada side. We got stuck on Cali due to a propane leak at the top of Sky after we got 3 runs in. They weren't letting people hike up from Canyon either. It opened back up at around 2PM. This was the 2nd propane leak at Heavenly this year that shut terrain down according to the employee we spoke to on the chair. They have to get the fire department up there to clear the area before anyone else can go in.
