I admit, sometimes, when lift is stalled, and you're solo on the chair, with some soft shit not far below, it is really tempting to unclick the skis and huck. Over the years, I've seen a couple boarders jump from the chairs in front of me. They don't launch from seat, they crawl down so arms are hanging from footrests. We're talking heights of 1 to 1.5 storeys.
Yup, it does have some great features, but like other places, great to ~visit~, not great to live. Unless you're upper end of middle income and higher. (But if you're in that group, you travel to other places that are much greater). I love road cycling in French Riviera (between Monaco and St. Tropez), but no way I could live there.
BC is swiftly moving towards Argentina, Egypt, Cuba. In last half decade, 9o% of all net job creation was in bureaucracy; private sector employment increased by just 12,000 jobs while government jobs at all levels (local, reg, prov, fed) increased by 102,000. Taxes pay for those compensation packages; wages, pensions, generous leave, ample vacations and huge health benefits. The non-salary benefits are worth about $30k/annual.
BC has the 4th-highest combined (fed/prov) top personal income tax rate (53.5%) among all 10 provinces and 50 USA states (Nearby states of Wash & Alaska are much lower). And BC is almost #1 in north america for 'hidden' taxation (mostly collected by businesses and other agencies), through taxes, charges, surcharges, fees, levies, penalties, fines, excises, duties, collections, commissions, assessments and concessions. All of which are laundered through bureaucracies. (Occasionally, they give some change back to you). Gov't has squeezed taxation to max, and now borrow an additional $9billion/year under your name, for you to pay off in future years. In poorer regions in Interior BC, govt transfers are now the leading source of total income, not earned wages.
It would take a radical change in gov't (centre-right) and a business cycle (5 years) to turn that around, so for many years, BC will be Barf Cash. Deal with it.
