Facets shmacets. There won't even be enough snow to do anything but wreck skis and bones even IF this storm over produces. Stick to climbing, biking, and football watching until the goods are here.

The Magic carpet is better then nothing.... Oh, crap who am I kidding, that is a joke.

Weather forecast is looking better, but have been seeing that for the last 3 yrs. Forecast looks good, then the storm goes North or South or beats it's self to death on the high pressure ridge.

You forgot option number four where warm air dominates through end of precipitation period with rain falling right up to the facets.

I just saw images of Mt Lassen on the KCRA evening news. Looks like the south face has great cover! Any snow
info on that area?

Last season I skied Gold Coast more than in the previous 37 years combined. This year I think I'll sit out for a while.

This was the warmest November I remember for the bay area, and I'm getting to be an old fart. It feels like a warmish October.

I'm sure the next few weeks will bring a dump though. Almost always do. (Though I am worried that the ground ain't wet and the air is dry)

There's some serious waffling going on every few hours. Both have storms, but the amount of snow is fluctuating quite a bit with temperature swings.

The fact that it is snowing everywhere but Tahoe is simply a test, we must persevere. However, the fact that i'm sitting in an office in NYC and watching it puke while the Sierras are dry makes me want to step outside and scream at the heavens!

Reno office.

I've always found it interesting to compare the two offices. Sac is almost always more optimistic. It may reflect their differing forecast areas, with Sac covering the favored area for precip, but it seems like it goes beyond that and applies if the Reno office is talking about the crest as well or some area of overlap. Been like that for at least a decade.

At the risk of beating a dead horse, BA's latest is just as optimistic as before, but with a simple timing change.

All hypothetical until it's on the ground, of course.

I am lazy. Enough said.

Anyone recommend an AIARE 1 course over another? I am hearing good things about LTCC. Any time of the year better to take the course? Late January?

That was my take when looking at today's runs. And kind of have a guy we were moving that way anyway.

Looks slower and more drawn out and not as heavy. Could still be similar totals, but with a better chance at binding well.

I liked the CC. Better to wait until there is snow on the ground near Red Lake. We did our field study there.

Definitely wait until there's a decent snowpack to work with. I took it when things were shitty (with very obvious layers to evaluate) and really feel like I need to take it again as a result, which I'm going to at some point.

Donner Summit Avalanche Seminars is also good. I've taught a couple of L1 classes with Randall. A very good guy and an excellent instructor.

LTCC class is pretty damn good from what I've heard.

+1. Took Randall's level 1 course last season. The course was excellent. He has an impressive inventory of first hand experience in rescues.

ASI does Level Is out of Sugar Bowl and are known to be excellent.

I did mine with MAS in Bear Valley. Brandon Schwartz of SAC taught it.

I took mine at vailwood. Expedition K offers a bunch of courses. Geoff Clark was a damn good instructor. Would highly recommend him. As far as snow conditions go definitely try to do it when the snow pack is "interesting" or "complex"

^^^ Clarke is one of the main guys at ASI. I think it's only recently that he's been doing the E:K stuff.

Highly recommend the LTCC class. Great price as well if your a CA resident.

Same experience as Driver. Took the level I class last year at LTCC and was impressed by the young, knowledgeable instructors (wasn't dry at all as expected). The whole course cost about $80. By far the best value in a level I class that I know of...
