They proved that it wasn't really a bar?

As they should! Seen them probably just as many times (if not more) as the Old 97's all over the country from the East Coast to the West Coast. Their Roadtrip to Raleigh gathering should be on every true fan's list. I know D-Day liked his old band that quit on him (as I did too), but his current band is way more polished, tighter and professional.
Can't believe I forgot to share this spitfire with you Cats. Seen her a few times and she puts on a great show as well. Plus, she's pretty damn sexy also :fmicon:

I’m vibing on this joint (although I would label it more “aggressive folk” or “ Prog Folk”):

Speaking of BJ, I love this viddy of him and Charley! The horn playing is :fm: Plus, it got D-Day's seal of approval ;)

This is probably my favorite Charley song. When he played it for us here at the Soundwell back in June '21 (first big artist to come play here post pandemic) it had not even been out for a week yet but the sellout crowd already knew every word and sang it along with him. When he was done, he commented "Damn Salt Lake, I just learned that song 3 days ago and y'll already know it better than me!" Made me proud of the crowd :)

Can't forget about Fred's wife; an amazingly talented musician in her own right! This one's for you D-Day; think you might likey ;)

A couple of years ago AA put out 2 volumes of covers of BJ's favorite older, country songs. Being used to his band's normal sound, I was a little skeptical at first. All it took was driving across the middle of Nevada in the dead of winter with Volume 1 on repeat and I was hooked. They are both great top to bottom and very much worth a listen/purchase if you haven't heard them! May bring back some fond memories for us older folk ;) Hard to pick a favorite so this will have to do; it's on you Cats to check out the rest and pick your own ;)

You should be FUCKING STOKED not just "pretty stoked" ;) Seriously thought about getting tix for that, but I saw TT at one of their first shows post-hiatus back in Dec '22 at the Brooklyn Bowl for the Hooey Fest on National Rodeo Finals Weekend in Vegas. I met people from all over the country; they flew in from everywhere just for that show. They played every song a fan would want to hear except "Wrecked". Google that setlist; it will blow your mind. One of the best, most fun nights of my life and don't want to do anything to tarnish those memories! Super hot cowgirls everywhere :fmicon: Didn't get to bed till well past 4am ;) Also, saw them at the same event 4 years earlier when Evan was hooking up with Miranda and about to go off the rails ..... that night's a story for another time .....
Because every Cowboy wants a woman like this; especially D-Day  Her husband, Derek Cruz of Jesse Malin's band, is a lucky man ;)

hot damn
My wife is a HUGE Wilco fan, and AA piqued our interest for obvious reasons. They sound more country than I expected based on the Wilco reference. They come through here regularly but the timing has never worked. Hoping to catch them soon (and the Old 97's again). :D
Toby Keith.

^No disrespect to the dead but wrong thread.
Thats like your opinion man.
I believe he made a number of good country songs and more over he walked his talk. Not all can say that.

There are two Toby Kieths. The pre 9/11 tear your heart out with honesty and the post 9/11 angry bad cowboy hat wearing not worth listening to Toby.
Blue Moon is by far his best album. Only the Lonely, Lucky Me, Does that Blue Moon Ever Shine on You, Closing Time At Home, are all proper sad country songs. Sure the whole album has the 90s mainstream Nashville production, but there is a proper steel guitar shining through most of the album.
“We Were in Love” hits me hard as me and my wife find ourselves further and further from our high school sweetheart selves and I hope we can hold on through the grind of middle ages and teen wrangling.
“Who’s that Man” does a damn good job of the tragedy of divorce. Reminds me of my dad’s failures and keeps me trying to be a better husband.
“I’m So Happy” is excellent oxymoron and is accompanied by Sting.
Oh, and what boy doesn’t grow up thinking they Should Have Been a Cowboy?
Toby Kieth’s music played prominently throughout my childhood in the 90s. I mourned the change in his art in the 2000s, and now I am sad that the man is gone.
Corb Lund wrote this about his mother, the Calgary Stampede Barrel Racing Champ in 1959
Very true
I really like this cover of Horse Soldier- gives me chills
He was a wino... tried and true...

Love that ^ old school sound; thanks Pabst!
My favorite Guy Clark song
Ian Tyson, another Canadian, covers the cowboy and horse theme well.

Not sure what y'all did tonight but https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bymySqd2qE
Great share Woodsy with Fast Hand.
I hadn’t heard that yet. Adding it to the playlist. It’s nice to hear new takes on the classic murder and gunfighter ballads.
^^^Nice Tuco
Good question - my parents loved his music, would sing along on the car radio
My favorite Marty Robbins song, despite it being about an inappropriately possessive man
Here’s another question. What is it about these two songs (and a lot of Robbins’ other music) that is different from most other C/W & popular songs?
