I believe my old 041 to be nearing a complete rebuild and with me doing it myself, its a risky proposition. I'm now in the market for a newer 70 CC saw. Being a stihl guy, I'm looking at the 044, 440 and newer 441. I've run an 044 before and really liked it. The new husky saws that I've used don't really feel like a chainsaw. Almost too smooth. I like the feel of tearing into wood.
It seems like the 441s are a bit heavier without more power and all the extra emissions stuff make them complicated to work on. Anyone have any opinions on them or of the 044 vs 440? EBay prices are looking like 440 and 044 are equally desirable and 441s maybe a bit less so depending on usage.

Curious why there isn't any Echo love around here? My dad and family were loggers and I grew up around Stihl saws and even earlier Homelite when they still made real saws. I bought an Echo CS 510 about 10 years ago and absolutely love it. It seems every bit as good as a Stihl and much better built than a Husky.

440 or 044 for sure.
we picked up a couple of 441s for new fire saws last season. not a fan at all. in mine and many others opinion, the 440 is the best saw stihl has ever made. 044's are amazing tools as well. i will never part with my personal 440
maybe look into 361s and 460s as well

the 460 magnum in the pic above is sweet !!!

I can run it all day. I think it a good comprimise, not too heavy with good power. some saws at the shop are heavy!

I'm no saw guru, but I bought the sharpener in the pic and I have brought farked chains back to life. seriously, it works a treat!
2 chains couldn't cut a twig, now cut great. sure a pro could do it with a normal file. I'm told it only works on a full house.
for the average punter it will save a lota time money and greif ...

I have grown tired of hand sharpening chains and you will too, even with that tool. I buy three chains for each bar and have my local guy sharpen them for $7/per on his electric and just cycle through them...if you really do a lot of cutting buy your own electric.

Harbor freight has them for $30 I think, anyone used theirs? Utter shit or good for what it is if you're not using it all the time?

I have a 460 for my main saw. Cut with a 310 for a long time, but ultimately sold it. Borrowed a friend's 361 for a couple of days - that was a great saw. But I do a fair amount of my cutting at ~11k', in pretty good size lodgepole. 30"+ is not ususual... The 310 couldn't keep up, and when I upgraded, I wanted to make sure I ended up with the right thing. IIRC, the 460 is only a pound heavier than the 310, and something like 40% more powerful.

I don't doubt the elec sharpener is the shizzle, but when in the bush, either change the chain or sharpen it ...

I like the 460, anything smaller bogs down on big wood ...

but I'd like to try the 660 !!!

Guy I know had some cash and an idea of what he wanted to do and started a sawmill and ran it until he was broke.
