Hiked Rose today, fun times. Quite a bit of surface hoar so be careful going out into the backcountry when the new storms roll through.
^^ Yep. Unless the sun came out later today and really did some work it's not looking great.

$695 to ski Munchkins!? For that price the van that picks you up to shuttle you back to the base better be full of hookers and blow.
Hmmm tram ridge... that's awfully close to the tram face. Wonder if they could be talked into that? Lol
kirkwood opens friday. right now they have race course/outlaw park etc. it looks like with cold temps they could possibly have lower zack as well by then. buckboard and other stuff off 11 looks good with another 6" so that could be in the near future. the stuff around timber creek looked surprisingly good. like they could open friday good and they have the big gun blowing at the base.
this will be open

no that's the diamond shaped bowl above chair 11. i think it's called the headwaters.
upper sentinel looked good but the lower half had a lot of manzanita showing
Not to beat a dead horse but for anyone heading into the BC definitely look at the SAC bulletin before heading out each day. Early season Tahoe with cold temps and a shallow snowpack is (normally) the only time of year we get an interesting snowpack, with hazards beyond storm slabs/wind slabs.
Taking it as a positive though, it's educational to see some positive test results, makes you appreciate our bomber snowpack we have most of the season, and solidifies our choice to live in Tahoe and not somewhere with a sketchy snowpack like Colo/MT/WY ;)
Because I'm bitter and stuck in SF with 3 kids, here's some pretty pics of Moon Crescent tour from 2011:

Sugar Bowl opened to day.
It was much better than I anticipated. (I need to tune / wax my skis.)
So I snap a few shot with my phone while riding the first chair of the year/

Thats All I Got
Skied Rose on Thursday and Friday afternoons. Thursday was okay as crowds left early for TG. Friday was very busy. First time ever I couldn't find a parking place in the main lot (parked up above in small lot). The crowd could best be described as diverse, as evidenced by the half dozen different languages I heard in the lodge. Seems like the bay area has discovered or taken a liking to Rose in greater numbers than I have seen in the past.
Positives-Lots of skiers/riders, good money maker for the ski area.
Negatives-Lots of skiers/riders and not much terrain. Rocks starting to show in between bumps, snow to shallow to groom.
Will see what this storm brings.
I think it's mostly to do with current conditions being what they are compared to elsewhere and a growing Reno.
Things are currently resetting in a huge way though and those problems will disappear as will the crowds. especially on the south side of the lake where we have been getting the short end. this storm is gonna be a game changer giving us options beyond Round Top/sisters and opening huge chunks of resorts (should get kirkwood open top to bottom).
Alpine today. Kangaroo was the only thing open. DUMPING tonight, hope they get something open Sunday am.
Interesting the nws hasn't updated the local forecast. probably the latest i've ever seen it go.
18" in my drive way in the county area of South Lake
Alpine down today. No power.
