Thx guys. I called the shop and they said -8.5
From Scott when I asked him the same on a pair with Bamboo Sidewalls:
87cm pulled straight out (not following the curve, and not a straight line connecting the tail to the ski topsheet). Just pull tape parallel to the ground 87cm from the tail, and that is boot center.
So yeah -8.5cm.
Thanks for the feedback.
And to be super Anal, if you HAD to go either +2 or -2 from center due to hole conflicts; what would you do? Seems the consensus is to go back, eh?
^^ I would do whatever I could to find a binding that didn't require going off the line, but if no luck, then yes I would go back not forward.
Mounted last pair back. Fine in pow but wandered on groomers at -1. I agree put a plate to keep on line
When I cave and order a 186 BG to be mounted with beasts...is the grizzlycorn an option?

Had to go back of line 1.5cm. They ski fine there. Do everything I ask and nothing I don't. Such a fun shape. Rail groomers and ski pow up to 10" great. They do surprisingly well in chop, being that they are the tour layup.
Still cannot believe they removed this ski from their line.
I'm super stoked as I just picked up a pair of wood veneer top Vicik Tours.
Dims and rocker/camber profile look great.
I'm also surprised it was removed from the line-up.
The Kartel 106 looks super jibby in comparison.
Anyway, can't wait until they arrive.
PS I also they are good enough to keep.
Yeah, the Wrenegade 102 replaced the Vicik. Sorry about that in my pm, I heard it was the Kartel. The Wren in 106 would have been a better choice for 0N3P IMHO.
Any thoughts on re-mounting a 186cm Kartel 98 at -2cm? I'm not sure how tolerant they are of adjusting mount points and don't want to drill them again if not necessary.
Low speeds and messing around, I love the skis. Tons of pop in the tails, ski switch very well, move around great, grip or slide on command. They are awesome to beater around on. Lazy backseat turns get the best results.
But when I push them, they don't respond well. Carving groomers at moderate speeds is enough to hit the stability speed limit, lose the edge, fold the tips and behave erratically when you drive them. It's like they punish good form. I can't comfortably ski far enough into the back seat to make them work for me at speed. I like the tails, wish the there was about 6" more tip.
So will -2 accommodate my style? If not, it would be easier to sell/trade them for a more directional model with only one set of holes.
Additional info:
-I'm a bigger guy. 6'4" 180lbs 335bsl, so these things are already shorter than I'd usually like.
-Bought them to replace my 186cm S3s. Love those skis, just wish they were longer and stiffer.
-I have OG Pillowfights (196cm) and the S3s that both have more progressive mounts. Both are on the rec line and work well for me. So I (apparently mistakenly) thought I could handle a progressive mount.
IMO... sell them and get Jeffrey 114s instead. I know they're wider, but they're quite a bit stiffer and more substantial.
Or find last year's Jeffrey in a 186cm, if you can.
I played around with mounting points a bit on the older Jeffrey with demo bindings, which has the same elliptical sidecut as the Kartels. I thought that the ski was remarkably tolerant of moving the mount point 2-3cm. The ON3P guys said (and this makes sense) that since the elliptical sidecut is nearly straight underfoot and arcs tighter in the tip and tail, there's a larger than normal sweet zone for mount points as your boot is still pretty much in the "center" of the sidecut. So I don't think mounting at -2cm would negatively affect the ski... but I'm also not sure it would solve your complaints with them. Kinda sounds like they're just too soft for how you want to ski.
Yeah at 6'4" you need a bigger ski mate. Not a new mount point.
Sell them and get a 191 something.
191 Caylors from last year sound like they could work.
Recommending that he replace a ski that is 98mm underfoot (S3) with one that is 120mm underfoot (Caylor) seems like a bit of a stretch, don't you think?
Gonna hit up the demo day at Loveland this coming weekend. Is the demo tent open right as lifts turn? Just wondering if I need to bring my skis.
Reality: The Kartel 98 is a wider park ski, and it's advertised as such. You bought the wrong ski. Probably would have been better off on the 106, or even a Wren 102.
This is correct...limited run when we do them. Maybe we will do them next year. Maybe we won't. The mystical beast that is the Grizzlycorn cannot be represented in normal, Earth physics. You must understand the time and space between time and spaces. Only then can you perhaps harness the power of the GC.
