Nah, you won't notice until the very end, there or on MTW. It is a little surreal though seeing a 300lb woman struggling up the 50 vert of stairs to get to the top. You can always do Laffeyette if you don't want a road.

Thanks all for the comments, now I dont feel so bad about making TWD miss more work while I screwed around with settings for 30 minutes...
If you approach from the west side and take sunset ridge up you will not even see the ski area until you summit. The view in the shot I took above is west side. You can also cut over on canyon trail which avoids the top of the ridge. Although with snow that could be some puckering hiking on canyon. Sunset ridge should be fine though, bring some crampons. The parking lot is on the forehead area, even if you drive up there is still a mile hike to the true summit. There is no parking area on the chin, nor will you see it, especially if you approach from the west.
If you want in, you got it. That trip just popped my pre-season excitement 10 fold. Wish we'd taken more photos, but it wasn't the first thing on our minds. Have to keep reminding myself that it won't be skiable for probably 4 months.
Awesome foliage pics guys. Keep em coming.
Anyone going to the TGR showing at Savoy theater in Montpelier on Thursday the 11th?
Be cool to grab a beer from three penny before the show

I would say we are in peak to past peak here now. Not sure what other areas are looking like. With the winds coming and cold weather, i think time could be running out. That said, I am in for an exploratory hike with you and HA when you get up here.
That is a classic loop and highly recommended, Tough to say about the foot gear and time. Of course you need to park two cars, or I could give a ride if I am around. I live 10 min from the trailhead. I have only hiked it dry in the summer or skinned it with snow in the winter. I can manage the summit in the summer in 1.5-2 hours, but I am slower with a bum knee. If its slick and icy I would want to have both just for the options. You are above tree line on the summit ridge and sunset ridge down hike for quite a while. I would prepare for a winter hike just like in any other alpine environment. The boulders are big up top and the trail traverses right over the top of them. Slipping off one may not send you off the mountainside but could put you deep in a hole between the boulders, of which there are plenty.
microspikes should be fine but IF the weather turns really cold, you may encounter some serious ice that could be tricky with them. I doubt that however.
As far as book time: the old AMC rule of .5 hour per mile and .5 hour per 1000 ft of vert GAINED is applicable here. I don't have the mileage off the top of my head, but i'm guessing 7 miles rt, and up 3000 (a bit less), so 5 hours rt estimate. i'd bet you can do it in less too though without much sweat and tears.
Unless I'm greatly mistaken, I don't think this is correct. You can park at Underhill State Park for both Maple and Sunset ridges.
Been discussed a million times... and probably a few times by yours truly. Anyone got a good shop recommendation for Boston area to mount up a couple pairs of skis. Was planning to go the "cheap" route and get them done at REI but they just quoted me $70 a mount. They were at $35 last year!
Checking in for post number 2 on the East Coast Rog Call. Sick Stoke, GP, TC, and VTF.
I was pretty bummed to be traveling and to miss the first snow. Didn't even know about it. Been down south, swimming in warm water, eating fried food, and burning a lot of dinosaur juice. I did hike Mt. Mitchell today - first frost of the season, undercast, and another major peak off the bucket list. Awesome views... the parking lot at the top was pretty funny though. And the old people STILL needed a ride up the final 1/10th mile to party on the top for group photos. Many golf carts were shuttled. I hope to never be so feeble, but I'd rather be there than gone.
Anyway, I helped work on a Stump interview for the NY blog, if anyone wants to check it out:

AND Plattekill's work day is on Sunday at 9am, if anyone wants to earn some woods for the season that hasn't already hit Magic, the day comes with a voucher and lunch, too. LMK if you want more info.
Keep up the good work, all. Especially VinMan. AWESOME SKIS DUDE!

KILLER FULL COURSE EC STOKE VTFREE!!!!
nuther viddy, every run has a story. for me, i ski to relax and it's all bout the turns. terrain, location, and what snow type is low in importance. clean canvas and underfoot feel is what blows my hair back. no matter how gnar/exposed the terrain is, the turns are the same. round, complete, and in complete control. always a work in progress.....what's your story?
