Yet another underperformer of a refresher. Im sure it will be a fun day today, then back to spring tomorrow ... All this "trough on the 15th" talk ... even if it drops 2 feet, it would be on bare ground below 8500'. Thank goodness for the CPSR!
Lassen Micro Summit weekend of 5/4 anyone?
I dunno, KWoo's webcam is showing goodness of black-out proportions! grumble grumble
You need to try some other resorts jahroy.
I read your post stating how smooth and slushy KT was on Saturday so I ventured up on Sunday, total disappointment. KT is the worst skiing I've done in the past 2 weeks. Get 2/3 of the way down and the snow is hollow then you've got to pick your way back to the lift. This just isn't a good Spring on KT.
Slide Mountain, on the other hand, has been off the hook for unbelievably smooth corn since about March 22. I have not had a bad day there in the past 2 weeks. Smooth corn right up until 4:PM . The Chutes have been hit and miss but I don't really care because the Slide side has been nothing short of phenomenal, pretty much 100% ski-able with decent coverage and that oh so buttery corn. There is sufficient snow to last through closing on April 21. I am looking forward to a couple of weeks of more kernely goodness:biggrin:
Slide was fantastic on Friday. Plenty of untracked cream cheese.
Tanuki today:

Does anyone have free time wens 4/10, thurs 4/11, and/or fri 4/12? Good weather window for an Eastside trip and I am looking for a BC ski partner. I have plans to climb at Clark Canyon and/or Benton Crags sat 4/13 and sun 4/14, you are welcome to join.
TM, I have some ski-with-a-friends as well as buddy tickets left on my pass but I am pretty sure I have to be there with you when you buy the discounted tickets. I can't promise to be at Kwood on those dates. PM me if you think I can help.
Not to be a negative nelly but went to AM this morning and lasted one run. Went out past high yellow trying to find some consistent soft snow to no avail. Def some fun soft turns here and there between the bone jarring crust but I felt the day was better suited toward indoor activities. I guess people can pile on BA's continued trail of failed forecasts ;)
sorry if my post ruined your day.
i figured you guys just ignored my squaw reports at this point...
yeah... there's some rotten snow down low, but it really doesn't bother me.
it only affects about 30 seconds of each run.
most people i talked to on sunday were just as stoked as me.
Debating on an Alpine, KW or Squaw day on this upcoming Saturday...KT open through this weekend? Scott Chair and Sherwood done?
they said they're going to try...
i wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't make it, but i'm optimistic.
i don't remember KT spinning with this little snow at the base since 2004...
here's what the upper cat track looked like on sunday (the lower cat track has plenty of snow):

Decided to chase the storm to SLC last night, made it to Lovelock, NV, went to fuel-up and discovered that I happened to have left my wallet back at the place on Pioneer. With not enough cash to get me to SLC I turned around. Wound-up going to Kirkwood and their big-bad 3 inches.
Arrived at KWoo at 10:00 bailed by 11:30. GNARSTY.
Run 1: Traversed to Sentinel Bowl. Crunch
Run 2: Hiked out past Saddle Chute. Crunch
Run 3: Wall to ridge to Dick's Drop. "Mother Effer, this sucks I'm out!"
Never thought I'd say this, but Sun is Necessary. EFF ME!
Dunno. I had fun at KW this morning. Came to car to switch some gear and some how locked my keys in with the engine running. Waiting for an orange truck to help me out. Stoked to get back out there and expect some of the side country to be pretty good.
And those shots of Squaw. Holy Sheet that is bare. Please show up man in orange truck.
Thanks for the pics Jahroy...with the warm temps coming...hmmm. Double reverse traverse to KT still allowed under KSL? I had some epic corn laps years ago doing that. Heh.
Kirkwood is always my default and never disappoints but haven't been to Alpine all year.
6er. Just go to the usual spot. We skied Sugar Bowl on Friday and let me tell you... It is MUCH MUCH better down South. Shredwood skied well, some spots were better than others, and the skiing was FUN.
Should I even mention how good mammoth was today? Still snowing, and should be real good tomorrow morning before the sun beats the shit out of the snow. Some good wraparound bands of snow are keeping things nice. I suspect the June and the tioga pass area got hammered.
KT hikes didn't apply last year, but were in effect in 2011 (for memorial day weekend).
i hope KSL doesn't take that away... that's my sentimental last lap every season.
as bad as it looks, i think there's a chance. today's cold temps are certainly helping.
the lower cat track has no bald spots and the cushing crossing is scheduled for saturday.
i basically felt like lloyd christmas yesterday (but dumber) when i heard it might be open next weekend:
