Beautiful bike, but way too high end for me.
The one I rode had a CX Boesh, but the newest ones will come with the DJI.
https://ebike-mtb.com/en/dji-avinox-review/
they are already plenty expensive so imo just buying the lowest spec of any of these full power E-bikes saves 6 k which i did with Bullit and I did it again with Vala 70 I am really liking the new Vala, I can just pull my phone out so a month later I don't really miss a display on the bar I am not sure about the non removable battery but so far no issues but all kinds of things I can see are better on the Bosch proudct after being a 4 yr Shimano end loser
I had to replace the 100$ charge port cuz the Shimano has a small shitty piece of easily broken hard plastic with small shitty conatcts while bosch has a big manly rubber plug with rubber port cover with big contacts which isnt gona break
A 50$ snagged wire to display left me pushing the Shimano out of the bush while Bosch has no display so no wire TO the display also no wire TO the power mode switch cuz it is blue tooth no wires on the bar of any kind to break
A set of camel humps in the area that always stalls me out on Shimano is no problem with Bosch so the bosch product definatley has more low end grunt the motor also make less noise the motor also assists in a better manner
brand new the EP8 had intermittently had the dreaded E010 code which was fixed after 2 firmware down loads
but THE biggest fuckup is that Shimao Narth America will not sell me a new EP8 while buddy LBS buddy on a user group in England sez ya mate I can get a new EP8 in 3 days
so while I usually give the company building out door equipment the benifit of the doubt
fuck Shimano Narth Ameica eh DO NOT BUY an Ebike with a Shimano motor
I'm not currently in the market.
My long time bike tech/LBS, partnered with a high end Euro ski shop.
Whenever I'm there, he lets me take a spin.
That Avinox looks great but I duno how far away it is from me being able to walk 3 short blocks to my dealer ?
I have bought bikes from an out of town dealer and its usually not a problem to fiddle with something mechnical but IME with Eeb I want a dealer there to take care of it cuz the Eeb part just adds another level of fuckery
I bought my Bullit august 2020 and its great except I get intermittent E010 which is a catchall sensor code which could be about 17 things it finally shit completey dead with the E010 code local dealer hasnt a clue and i bought it at a dealer 400kms east
and here is the thing the local dealer has no way to recoup $ from shimano on a bike they did not sell so i would get a labor bill on a warranty SC
I leave it sit for a month and when i am loading it into the truck to go east it starts working but then its still intermeitently throwing codes so i discover I can bypass the code if I start riding before the 20 or 30 second POR sequence completes
eventualy I do a firmware update in oct 20 which does not fix it then i do a dec release of firmware update the next jun which 100% fixes it for 5600 kms 4 yrs
YMMV of course but you can see why IME/ IMO you really want to buy your Eeb from your LBS 4 yrs later Eebs are everywhere the young guy who put my Vala togetehr was still in HS 4 yrs ago now he wrenches fulltime and he rides a Vala SO I feel better this time
SC didnt get you a motor but YT, an online co, got me one. Both shimano

Has anyone here done a mountain bike conversion to e-bike? I have a YT full suspension and am curious about spending a fraction of the cost of a good e-mtb and upgrading with a Bafang or Tongsheng mid-drive motor/battery. Is this a stupid idea?
Yeah so what do you not say, I assume the motor or motors YT got you were warranty in any case my LBS tells me Shimano which is Shimano north America would or could not come up with an EP8 motor while Shimano comes up with one in 3 days across the pond
So after 4 yrs its not really the job of the LBS to get me a new EP8 I also called the LBS 400 kms east who sold me the bike and I never heard from him again even tho he knows me well
my LBS guy used to work for Shimano he laughed and said yeah the shimano rep and the SC rep are married So neither one of them could get me an EP8
if Shimano would sell me a new EP8 for say 800 $ Iwould be ok with that instead they leave their customer SOL
So it would appear YT is good lets see how good they are apres warranty period
Shimano NA sucks dead goats and IMO donot buy a Shimano
beside the bosch is really looking like a much better product
"" Has anyone here done a mountain bike conversion to e-bike? I have a YT full suspension and am curious about spending a fraction of the cost of a good e-mtb and upgrading with a Bafang or Tongsheng mid-drive motor/battery. Is this a stupid idea? ""
i donot see how you could make an acoustic bike into a midrive I could see hanging a hub drive wheel on the frame and a battery on a rear rack but hub drives suck
i would call it an INCREDIBLY STUPD !!! idea
IME IMO just buy the cheapest version of a real Eeb mtn bike assuming you want a real mtn bike which might save 6 K over the top end model
I converted a Schwinn hybrid to an e bike for commuting use, around 8-9 years ago. I used a Bafang BBSHD mid drive kit with a battery that attached to a bracket mounted to the down tube water bottle braze-ons. Worked fine for commute purposes.
Unless the design has changed, the Bafang motor just attaches to the bottom bracket shell by clamping through the shell - - it does not thread into the BB shell. For on road use, that was OK, the motor did not rotate within the BB shell. For a mountain bike, I'd expect impacts to cause the motor to rotate downwards - - maybe there's some other bracket that could attach and support it.
I also wouldn't trust the water bottle braze-on mounts for mountain biking - - I'd use a front triangle frame bag, and put the largest battery I could get in the bag.
The Bafang kit I had did not have any torque sensing input, just a crank rotation sensor. It could also be run purely off thumb throttle, no actual pedaling required.
OK so i looked on- line at Bafang mid drive they look to be 600 $ to 1000 $ so how do they work as a mtn bike or what does the snowshow want and what does he expect obviously I have no idea
Does a throttle and such a big motor take in out of the class 1 E-bike designation ?
E-bike conversions would probably be a worthy seperate thread if anybody was into it or enough people had done it
My FATe has a Bafang motor.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...cdbbe9840c.jpg
It's heavy, but that's not that big of deal on a fat bike. Everything's heavy.
It's been pretty reliable.
I actually really like the throttle. It makes getting started in deep snow much easier. It also was a godsend rehabbing my knee after TKR.
I don't think a home made bike would hold up very well on ruff trails. Most I've seen were commuters.
An Ebike kit is going to cost you $1000-$1500.
You could get a low spec FS Emtb from a reputable brand for $3k then swap some
components and sell the YT for $1k?
Things to think about going with a kit:
- Does the battery fit where it’s not going to throw off the balance of the bike?
- Where will the motor be when the suspension is bottomed out?
- Will you be able to route all the new cables in a satisfactory/stable way
- Do you have space on the handlebars for the controls.
All that stuff is thought thru and done clean on a consumer e-bike but can be problematic on a convert…
But - yeah the kits generally work….

Maybe there is some kind of Bafang mid drive users group cuz there seems to be one for dam near everything else ? but i got no fucking idea ?
what i will offer is going from Bullit to Vala I figured another full power Eeb with an advertised difference of a few lbs it wouldn't be that different but I definalty feel less weight/ where it is so less weight up front/ steeper angle/ faster steering/ new Bosch motor is way better in terms of ridabiliy & power which is all the shit SC designed in
SO what I am getting at is I mtnbike for fun not to save money whereas i would make a commuter to save money and it would not matter just run the engine and lock it to a post

Prediction: we are [emoji638] - [emoji639] years out from ebikes that are indistinguishable from bikes visually. We’re already getting close with the latest crop of DJI and Fazua motors.
Yeah the Fazua on the Nebo Peak is stealthy as hell. I mean look at this thing.https://i.imgur.com/KPZuHIn.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/KPZuHIn.jpeg
https://i.imgur.com/KPZuHIn.jpeg
E bikes will still be distinguishable enough for people to be able to virtue signal so I donot think it matters
check out any blog some guy will tell you he doesnt ride e-bikes so why come on an e-bike blog to tell people you dont ebike and so have zero to offer
do people come on roady/ gravel/ hardtail blogs to tell everyone they donot do those things or do they make things up such as you have ?
I dont think they do but its OK cuz they are only ebikes
and everytime someone powers on an Ebike a kitten dies
I ride a eeb every day and I ride with eeb mtb friends every week.
I have plenty of knowledge xxx man and eeb riders in general are complete tools just like rhoadies....but not all.
So pull your panties out of your crack and realize it's your job to school some of your brethren.
Tons of post op couch time these days, I’m almost finished watching YouTube. Just a couple more eeeb vids and I’ll have it licked.
Joking but it’s not far off the truth, I’m starting to talk myself into the Bosch SX motor. Partly due to what’s available to order in the bike I like and partly I like to pedal and just want some assistance to take some pressure off this new knee I had installed last week. I’m not really a shuttle guy nor a winch and plummet type, maybe if I lived near real mountains I’d feel otherwise but my New England trail riding world seems like it doesn’t need full fat. If I rode someplace like Sun Valley on the regular I wouldn’t hesitate to go full fat.
If I started riding in North Conway more I could see full fat being the call too.

Full BOOST until the brethren are dropped, brap-brap

So you are one of those fat old fucks in bermuda shorts wearing socks n sandals smoking a dart
What bike/Sizing question:
Mrs Skier warming up to the idea of an Ebike -if we can both ride it: I'm 6'1-6'2, she's 5'6-5'7. I've heard Ibus does 'Extra medium' sizing. Any other brands do a sizing scheme that splits the difference? Full 29 preferred.

So, I understand the ‘I’ll ride my regular bike, she will ride the E’ thinking, but ai guarantee that you guys will both want to ride the e-bikes together more very quickly.
I'm not aware of any ebikes that have an extra-medium - I just spot checked Ibis, Pivot, and Canyon which were my guesses. To make matters worse, I'd say you're closer to XL territory, and she's on the low end of medium. So even a very large medium (like Pivot Shuttle SL-AM) with 465 reach is going to feel very big for her and very small for you. The only thing that I'd say gets close would be a Crestline RH-3 (large) which has a 475 reach and can run a +/-5mm reach headset. Then run +5mm for you for 480 and -5mm for her for 470. You're also going to run into issues with bar width and dropper length for that big a discrepancy in height.
Probably medium or even small for your wife and who knows wtf for you but there is gona be such a disparity in size and speed that it doesnt seem doable to me SO you need 2 bikes but even if you could both ride it why ?
Saw these clowns today. "Rambo" brand, LOL. Chatted them up a bit, they seemed to genuinely have no idea this is a non-motorized area.
Googled the bikes: 1000w motors, max speed 32 mph, throttle, 64 lbs. Well beyond Class 3 territory, just electric motorcycles with pedals. Indefensible.

I did an endurance XC race this weekend in an area that is very clearly signed no e-bikes. I had a guy cut onto the trail in front of me on a e-bike and frantically try to stay ahead for a few miles as it seemed like he did not expect much traffic and did not want to be spotted. Eventually he veered off the trail and into the woods. Was not a terrible encounter but impeding a race on a bike that is not allowed feels off to me. The kind part of my brain says there are lots of great people on ebikes and there are bad actors in any activity but there is a small voice that says e-bikes attract a crowd that has a higher chance of giving zero shits about the world around them.
I live near a national monument. I would love to ride my bike on the trails in the monument but it is not allowed so I stay to trails I can ride. It is that simple.
In Colorado I almost never see bikes poaching trails where they are not allowed but I seee it daily with e bikes. It feels like two very different cultures.
at least they ^^ had pedals ^^^ that looks like a road with some fat bikes to me ?
yesturday we had our 1st annual heavy-metal themed enduro they even had an E-bike class which was an advantge for the motor heads cuz before you can get down you gotta get up so they saved some energy before dropping cuz these were some spicy trail fersure eh
one broken ankle on " rememberance day "Ma lot of the trails at the area are named for AC/ DC songs SO insted of being a casulty I volied to be starter dude on 2 of the 5 stages, I got the T-shirt, people are thanking me and i got at least one beer out of it
I guess it's model specific, Ripmo has "XM", but then Oso just does m/L with a very sizeable gap between them.
She can ride my 58mm Creo, looks a little weird but it works. Reach and standover seem to be the biggest discrepancies. Maybe I'll just find her the biggest medium I can find and accept temporary clown life if I want a quick lap or something

Donot forget extra weight so where a small perosn might just dab riding an acoustic bike they might be over the downhill side from dabbing in th wrong place when the bike is an extra 15-120 lbs, not used to power on a bike that is TOO big
