I don't know man, I found this sweet patch the other day and ripped the shit out of it! (Actually I almost wiped out on my bike trying to clear it with speed)

I kid... I think it's cool how you guys continue to get after it as late in the season as you do.

But now that I am at 80 months it is kind of hard to stop. And this summer should be much kinder on the run, with many more local opportunities available.
I can take my bike, too.

The very top section of Yogis. Just 2 or 3 small patches, no big deal and trail is in great condition otherwise. Far worse is the access from the fire-road / 89 / not cold stream side by that little pond. Pretty flooded and you have to cross through a lot of muck...

I never come from the bottom....."that's what she said". I always take the fire road. Otherwise there's the possibility of a major head-on collision on the trail.

Yes!!!! Haven't hit Boo Boo's yet this year. I guess they've kept the gate closed on barker pass because of idiots getting stuck in the mud and water. Looks like a good adventure.

That carry system looks bomber. Great stuff

There is still snow on the road before it turns to dirt, I was able to ski right back to the road. Some Turons at the gate closure were all bent out of shape cause the gate was closed, "It was open this time last year"

So far I like that carry system for paved and dirt road access. Can't drop the post with it so tech descents are risky to the boys with the skis sitting high but for the most part gated roads are the primary target so it works well for me. Length of your skis and the size and geometry of your bike will play a factor on how well it works.

So sad to read about Ed's passing. What an inspiration. I always said if Ed can ski that late in life, then I still have many decades of turns ahead of me. He deserves his own memorial thread here.

Met him when I worked at Western Mountaineering in San Jose 25+ years ago. Skied here and there with him over the years. What an outstanding guy. A fucking legend.

Hey Tahoe people, the mrs and I will be in the general area for the weekend. Wondering if anyone had any good beta on camping (either nice campsites or accessible areas to wilderness camp without too much / any backpacking) or restaurants. I've been to South Lake Tahoe before and really don't have much preference on what city/area we stay near - Truckee seems cool, heard Tahoe City is nice. Ideally camping somewhat near the water, but not sure how realistic that is.

Looking forward to enjoying some non-Utah strength beers and falling off a SUP :D

There is camping around Tahoe. I should know where, but I actually don't. For food, I'm cutting and pasting posts #5 and #6 from the 2014 thread since it wasn't presented in this thread this year. There's usually lots of discussion on food places in this thread and this was last year;s summary.

Java Sushi I'm a bit of a self-proclaimed sushi snob and haven't really found any places on par with what you can get in SF or LA or NY or London, but I've become rather fond of Java, which is located next to the DMV (and next to the rotisserie that G2A mentioned). They have a solid All-You-Can-Eat menu, they smoke their own trout for sashimi and nigiri, and they have a pretty extensive vegetarian selection of rolls for those who can't get with gills and fins. ~dookey67

Sweet, thanks! I booked camping at Nevada Beach Campground, on the NV side of SLT. Got half off with my Interagency Pass too, that thing has paid for itself... now to check out some of these restaurants! Gotta find a hike too, anyone have any local favorite non-technical peaks?

looks like you got your camping covered. tallac has a trail up the south side with stellar views on top. if you want off-trail class 2 or 3 type stuff you could look into roundtop, red lake peak, or maybe flagpole or echo for the lake views.

^ all of PJ's recommends are great Class 3 scrambles to the top with stunning views.

Just be prepared to leave extra time on HWY 50 through town. Plan for traffic backups and 15-20 mph starting from 5 miles out of town, wake up and get on the road early for your adventures. It's freaking gorgeous, but summertime is a junkshow around the various towns of Tahoe. While stuck in said junkshow, you need to remind yourself that more than 10x the population of SLC metro area lives within 3-4 hours of Tahoe and doesn't have much better plans during the summer. Once off the main road and on a trailhead or whatnot, it's totally chill.
