Merry Christmas all!
'Twas the night before deepness, and all through the mounts,
not a creature was stirring, not even a moose...

simply amazing couple of days. just AmAzing! a Christmas Miracle! So stoked we are GITN SUM!
nothing but smiles and good times in 2013 all!
Storm is looking pretty good for Thursday. How does magic look so far? I'm leaning towards mrg or Burke but its a farther drive (and worse).
I'd say it really depends on your elevation, tree cover and aspect. Lots of places were either wind blown or just deceptively crusty where the pines held the refresher. Others simply didnt have the cover just yet. Some of it was really, really good but I wouldn't go out expecting waist deep everywhere just yet. There are places like that, but it's certainly not everywhere.
That Thursday storm should help though!
Thanks to TC and the Cover family, HA and TWD for a great holiday and I hope everyone out in maggot land has a safe and happy one! Cheers!!
^^^^
Yeah having skied lots of aspects and trees in the last week, it depends on what you are skiing. Base depth is fine on certain aspects except all the steeper black spruce high elevation stuff that got wind swept and is more a mix of crust and massive drifts, really inconsistent. Spruces catch too much snow and keep it in the canopy. But once you get off the worm hole summits into the hardwoods where things fell evenly, it was skiing deep and titties for sure. Deepest turns I have had so far in the trees. Good times just being out there far away and seeing the winter take hold of the high terrain.
This is what the hardwoods held ( iphone shot)

This is skinning on the summit ridge in the pines, white goblins holding all the snow.

Looks sweet BF, look forward to a pow edit.
Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays. Some killer untracked skin laps with twd this afternoon. Temps have kept the pow light and cold. Great to see the sun for a day and rest the legs for this next round of snow. Glad that we can forget about the resort touring now, time to choose your own adventure. Best part of the Season.
Looking good in the right places

Okemo, Magic, and Mt Snow solidly in the 18-24 range...as BF says, WOOT!
Nice shot Greg...all I know is that they are saying 8-16" in western ny amd I'm gonna be hitting those glacial formations.
Just had 2 stellar days of skiing. A sick day at mad river as expected, see pow pic below. But then today skied pico and it was amazing, 6 inches of untracked blower all over the place, the sun out skiing above the clouds, an incredible day. Put in a pic of the power line at Pico. After this coming storm all of northern vermont should be at full operation. We did woods at Mad river that are usually mid season woods.

I like the looks of this forecast, heading up to Burlington tomorrow. Planning on hitting Sugarbush or Jay on Thursday and Friday and then will probably do some BC over the weekend.
TC, up for any touring on Saturday?
Beyond stoked... Coming up tomorrow for five days at MRG.
Looks like Ullr is going to make it Worth bringing the George's!
Can. Not. Wait.
PS- Thanks to Weasel1 for heading to Florida this week. Beers on me next time. Merry Christmas!
Wow. Looks like with a little luck, Magic may get a solid dumping. I'm glad that my only ask of Mr. S. Claus was 2' of pow. I've been good as fuck this year too! Bring it on, Ullr.
Heading north this evening. Hope to see a bunch of you clowns this week!
42" at the stake on Mansfield. Nice to be thinking about getting out on some undeveloped mtns this early! Although the base is not as deep as it could be, it has certainly locked everything in. Been kicking around alot on the Marquettes at lower elevations and conditions are pretty forgiving, even if they are a little loud here and there. Seems pretty certain at this point that by friday turns will be much more quiet. Looking forward to the local harvest on Friday morning. Should be a great w/e to get out for some touring in more remote locations as well. Might try and nab some Mansfield side country before the lemmings pull the trigger on it.
