Um, ok. Welcome, I guess.
The prospect of runs being cut on the East side of TV is a dire thought to locals who love powder skiing. The canopy of the old growth trees maintain excellent snow, cut them down, and there will be steep bump runs that get scorched by the morning sun. Just clearing downed trees and clearing some brush would be the best scenario for quality skiing. The only thing to be said for cutting runs is that it will make it look like part of the ski area. The best skiing/snow at the Bowl is not in places people can see from a distance.
Sadly it has begun, a;ready there are people going in there who have no idea what they are doing. I was skiing it a few days ago, and came upon a guy who asked me "Do you know how to get out of here?" I told him to ski down hill.
For real. I've been loath to jump in there because even though I know it can be good, I know there's a lot I don't know so I could fuck myself on deadfall and cliffs.
It's amazing looking terrain as is. Just needs a cleanup.
I could see a cat track winding its way down as an alternative way back to the base, but they sounds like a lot of expensive work so whatever.
it's been many years since I was in there, but I don't remember it being that bad. We skied that stuff all the time. My recollection was some cliffy bits, but nothing all that continuous (meaning it's hard to legit cliff yourself out). I'm sure there's shitloads of deadfall - how much that matters kinda depends on how deep the snowpack is.
You'll put tour eye out, break a leg, and have to get rescued by helicopter. It's way too dangerous. Best stick to Spartan, or even better, Second Thought.

Heard the cable has already been spliced and they're putting chairs back on. t/f?
Lots of rumors and 2 weeks of silence from ownership and management. Really great!
Things I've heard:
They don't have to take the chairs down.
They do have to take the chairs down.
It'll be open soon.
It's more complicated, it won't be.
Somebody caused it by getting off too late.
Somebody caused it by getting off too early.
Not all these things can be true at the same time.
IIRC, there was a weird cable hanging down on the side of the wheelhouse at the top. That seems like something that probably shouldn't have been there. Hope they planned and keep up maintenance on Snowpark chair and the new area better, but they already fucked it up a little. A warming hut or a snack shack open on weekends would have been nice over there too, but that would have been smart.
Rumor mill has it that lavell could open tomorrow ….
Hmm...
Last thing I heard from a reputable source: the first crew that came in figured out pretty quick that the snapped strand was basically at the same location as the original splice, so the Bowl had to call in reinforcements with even more specialized skills.
I hope I am wrong but I am going back to my original call of next year.
Not there today so can't report on today's progress, but:
Splice is finished, upper terminal repaired, haul rope back up (all this observed Saturday afternoon) and some chairs reported to have been reinstalled by end of yesterday.
That's not what I heard one post above yours!
i guess snowbowl giving an official update or two is just crazy talk though.
Ski it to believe it.

Stucky has a smelly one?
can't buy a turn?
It's alive?!
Well, I'm impressed they got it fixed already.
Glad to be wrong.
Hell yeah. Fingers crossed for no more breakdowns this season.
I'm ok with a Mon-Tue closure for Snow Park for now.
Yeah that part should be interesting, especially during storm cycles when it opens after a few days closed.
Weird
