Counter point. Ebikes are dumb. Buy a motocross dirt bike and do 10 to 1 laps if that's your goal.

you can't pedal a motocross bike in econo mode
I like to ride mine in boost
everytime someone powerrs up an e-bike a kitten dies
OK so it was specificaly a midpower E-bike appearing to suck in the power dpt
I don't get the point either but people are buying them
I would be pretty happy with more power
My guess is you are a strong rider and the SL rider was a couch potato. The SL motor won't make up for that. It doesn't mean the SL concept is dumb. Probably that guy would have stayed home without it, so now he is getting exercise and having fun, and you get a valid sense of satisfaction over your fitness. Everyone wins!
maybe the guy didn't realize they were racing and then I assume there are different power levels but I havent tried a midpower or looked into it at all, I just ride a full power in boost all the time, I have to really be dogging it for one of them amish riders to keep up
SL bikes still put out like 320 watts, which unless you're almost a pro you're definitely not putting out for an entire climb. But I guess everybody on TGR is "almost pro."
I can still do 4,500' in 2 hours on my midpower ebike in its turbo mode. When I had a full power ebike, I could do about 6,000' in the same time (it would run dry around 7,000' / 2:40 in turbo). I only have about 2 hours to ride usually, and the 44lb mid power rides WAY better for me than the 52 lb full power.
There's a lot of variables to which flavor of motor is ideal for someone. But I will agree that the first gen, 30n-m / 300wH SL ebikes were pretty worthless aside from allowing out of shape riders to keep pace with fit riders on normal bikes.
We have few slightly rooty sections on this green circle trail which I would not consider techy at all, but around here I guess it kinda is, I suppose, because line choice and having to shift your body weight around makes a difference speed wise. I caught up to a guy on an eeb while on my Bronson and he was clearly flustered by someone behind him, so instead of pulling of to the side (which is easy on this slight climb xc green trail) he like panick rode...it was odd! So I Iet of the gas and let him get ahead with space. Eeb riders that have not been mtn bikers are a special breed.
I have gone down that road…if a dirt bike were 50 pounds, totally silent, and could go for 7k vert, yeah, that would be fun. But I prefer being able to have fun on the jankiest, tightest shit, being able to pick it up over anything while bushwhacking, and not hearing/smelling an ICE.
I also really, REALLY like pedaling, I find it more interesting mentally.
What are we talking about ? If its flat enough maybe like on flat trail behind the golf course ( golf courses are usually flat ? ) its easy to top out a full power E-bike at the 31kph/ 19mph limit of a class 1 and leave me wanting more speed/ power and I'm thinking that is where a good amish biker in good could give an E-bike a run for the money becuz of that limiter but from what I have seen locally on steady 40 minute of all uphill blue trail climbs of an area called " the bluff " ( hint: its all uphill ) not even close I just keep pedaling all the way up in zone2/ 110 bpm and the amish bikers don't even bother when they hear the motor, they just get out of the way and say go ahead
I'm just being a jackass. Of course a motocross bike cannot go on mtb trails, but the eebs are definitely not silent. Although if I'm dieing on an up in zone 4-5 I cannot hear an eeb coming up behind me. All those concerts back in the day don't help. You could always buy an E-motocross though! Still not quiet though. And yeah, I quit moto in '87 when I went to mtb. I prefer pedaling. But if your goal is vert and miles, then motor is maybe what you want...electric or ice...they're both motors!
One guy came up behind and was a "real" mtn biker and said hey "sorry about the sewing machine behind you". Real mtn bikers understand Amish riding and hold back and pass when there's an opportune time to do so. The morans try to blow by instantly because they have no clue that line choice is critical when your grinding on an up. Those eeb riders can fuck off.
Totally. One of my emtb observations is that emtbs make it an order of magnitude easier to be polite. What do I care if I chill behind an analog bike for a few until the time is right? Hell, I'll turn down my assist mode to min/off and save battery + keep HR up. But assholes will be assholes regardless.
EXACTLY^^^^
Anyone actually caring at all about a climbing Strava trophy or whatever on an ebike is a delusional pig-fucker.
If you really care that much, take a Mulligan, and do another lap.
At least around here you can't use an electric motorcycle on bike trails, the guverment sign sez class 1 only, no class 2, no class 3, no horses
most amish bikers don't even like holding up another amish bike so they pull over if they can't lead the pace, so they know they are definatley not going to lead an E-bike so they pull over and they never see the E-bike again until the p-lot
I don't know if any e-bikers do strava or if there is an e-bike strava class but i am assuming not, I don't e-bike any of the races
we don't have a traditional level of hate for E-bikes up here so there is no need to suck anyone's cock
Couple years ago some tourist ( from bend) asks me about the local situ for e-bikes, I said yeah man the builder, the maintenace guy, the club exec and all the kool kids are on E-bikes so nobody cares
the next year he moves here and apres ride we drink craft beer
When everyone just rides an eeb(next year) will strava be non existent?

That's where we disagree...definitely [emoji23]
I'll pull over ever single time for an Amish biker on an Up or a Down...and an eeb on the Down. I will not pull over for an eeb on an Up. They can easily blow by at an opportune point which is pretty quick if they have a clue on how to ride and can actually pedal.
God I hope so.

I don't care really, the amish biker does not have to pull over and really its not busy up here and there are no Americans who might be packing a glock ( or whatever their preffered bike gun is ) in any case they STILL always pull over cuz even if i hang off the back 50 ft the buzzing is a constant reminder that someone following could easily slay them which is I imagine might be bothersome so let them pass and never see them again
everyone I know or see on an E-bike knows how to pedal a bike, they didnt just take a wrong turn off of main street, there is no class 2 or 3 allowed and besides the trails are too tight to ever see a radpower so the only way the E-biker ever got into riding the area is by having 1st ridden an amish mtn bike and then buying a real class 1 mtn bike
I asked another American i see at the area about the riding e-bike down there he said " I come up here to fish steelehead, I bought the heckler at the LBS and i just leave it at my house up here "
but the point is that at least in Canada other than being faster up hill and weighing an extra 20lbs an E bike is really no different than an amish bike and no body cares except most of the 50+ guys want one, all the 60+ guys defintley want one
I think an E-bike would be pretty obvious on the strava when old people put up the best times not just by a few seconds but by a long shot like 1/2 an hr
I have strava but i dont really use it. I think theres an ebike segment option, not sure, or so ive heard

On Strava you can set a default for how your bike loads and the type of ride. If I choose gravel ride, my Cutthroat is the default. If I upload from Zwift, it defaults to online ride and my Tarmac. You can/should pick ebike ride and it will default to your bike aligned to that type of ride.
Of course, Stravassholes will go for KOMs without stating their are on an ebike to just claim the glory.
I don't strava, I am just roster filler so my job is to make the event look well attended, I just try to not finish last and hope to get a good prize off the table
I don't use strava much, but there's definitely an ebike category. At least locally, there aren't many ebike segments and not many ebike riders. It doesn't seem all that impressive to get a KOM when there are only like 3 other times on the trail.

I use Strava as my only social to receive banter from my idiot friends and also see where they're riding. One kook is in Utah right now...so I'm stoked for him.
So I use my eeb for trail building and there are a ton of segments here and a lot of users. I suppose people pursue the downs more so than the up, but I don't know. Many people use them as a shuttle. Or maybe they are like me and don't give a shit and just use it as a social.
I do luv my eeb for carrying heavy shit.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e9f91783b9.jpg
the local association asked for e-bikers to adopt the furthest highest trails so I go up there lots, i carry the silky Big Boy 7/24 which deals with most blowdown or I can ride up easily with the sthil if its a big stem
whereas cuz its a bit of an uphill slog, most people without an e-bike just aren't gona make it up there in a timely fashion let alone have any saw
we use a program called Slack to keep in touch on what needs doing, so there is a channel for each trail and everyone has picked a trail but they usually have real jobs n stuff so who knows when they can get to it. So everyone can see if something needs attention/ do it/ advise its done all in real time on the device, so I actualy have not accepted any responsibility but I deal with a lot of the blowdown cuz I am there with a saw
Slack? That sounds cool. Funny because last weekend a friend on Strava ran into a blow down completely blocking the trail. Such a mess you couldn't get by. We were riding there the next day, so I got out before our ride to clean it up and it had already been done! There are a lot of people around here doing trail maintenance so it'd be hard to connect all those folks into one app and 90% or so...idk...trails are illegal, so most probably wouldn't want to be tied to anything that could get them in trouble. But it would be cool for sure.
Slack.com I don't know how its is setup but I had to be invited, I think code names could be used if you want to keep it on the down low want
Slack works great for knowing what needs to be done AND what got done in real time so your not riding up a trail for 2 hrs with a powersaw to cut something that somebody already took care of
so you wana let the rest of the class know you found a blow down, if you intend to cut it, brag when you cut it no matter how big OR how small it is
so there is no attempt at duplication of work
I guess i shouldnt say i never use it. Buddy i ski with uses it so we track where people have been or where we've been, and hide that. Its nice to get the vert total from it as well. I do find it easier to bring up than trail forks. As soon as i bring up the app it has my current location. Trailforks takes clicking thru a few subsections most times
Maybe there'll be emtb only segments in the future as people adapt to what is possible on them

I don't need strava to tell me nobody's riding, except me.
How would you know if there was someone following you that you need to ignore ?
We dont want people knowing where we're skiing. Options are thin around these parts. Only enough for 2 people

new rules for the socks n sandals set
" Last September, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law SB-1271, which redefines and adds to several electric bicycle regulations in the state. Chief among them is a clarification of the three-class e-bike system, which is likely to now rule that many of the throttle-enabled electric bikes currently available and on the road in California will no longer be street legal. "
https://electrek.co/2025/01/01/start...ike-throttles/
I wonder if E-bike rules are coming of age in the USA which might make a lot of things illegal ?
I don't think anyone gives a shit if it has a throttle here, as long as it has pedals and doesn't go over 20mph.
I sure liked the throttle, when I was rehabbing and could see some ADA challenges to the CA law.
were you wearing socks n sandals, maybe smoking a dart ?
beermuda shorts would be the dead givawawy
Good. I hate throttle eebs. Peddle or buy a motorcycle and ride the road.
thats only in california where I noramly get the warnings about cancer n stuff
they are all a bunch of avocado toast eaters anyway
but its clear get armed cuz big brother is coming for your E-bikes and your guns will be next
New study just came out - 95% of eeb riders under 40 yrs old are douchebags. 70% of eeb riders over 40 are idiots.
It's up to you kooks riding them to school the morans out there.
Wait shouldn't the morans school the kooks? idiots can be nice people. I'm so confused. Does that mean I'm an idiot douchebag?
