Parking lots filled early this morning even with a 20 minute chain check slow down on i90 but lines were mostly short except for early morning on 2. Everything opened right on time and the upper mountain skied much deeper than the snow report. Boot top soft was found on Nash, snake dance, and the fan. To top it off my 8yo went up chair 2 for the first time and cruised right down edelweiss bowl. Feels good to ski soft snow again.

I'm still walking a little funny after my date with Alpental Saturday afternoon. First chairs of the season for me--man that felt good. Low vis, parking lot chaos and phat dumpage when I arrived at 2pm, but no lines to speak of. Vis improved majorly after 5pm and the dumpage continued--it turned in to a great night of storm skiing. 30k vf later, legs smoked, heart full.
Got up a little late because of the school delay, and seemed pretty crowded for a weekday, but lift lines were reasonable and conditions were pretty excellent.
I was looking at the uphill policy and it says no uphill at West before 2pm on Tue for grooming, but they aren't open Tue night. So is that just a typo on the site or should I just go to Hyak for a low effort lap?
Today was good. Not a power Tuesday of the past, but no waiting in line. Sunny skies, puffy clouds, nice snow and calm winds. My best weather day so far.
First day out this year and where it was good it was really good and was getting chest shots, but I was surprised at how prevalent the crust/ice bumps were despite how cold it's been during these latest storms. Never waited in line more than a minute despite parking being over capacity and a total clusterfuck by 9am (I saw tickets being handed out?)... so maybe the new international chair is doing it's job.
Had to take it easy on my repaired shoulder so didn't get out the gates to explore how it looks this season but I can imagine it was good. Hope to get out later this week for some sunshine.

Silver Fir, Central were really fun this morning. Got many laps in before crowds went full retard.
Snow was good today, but flat light left me feeling like I forgot how to ski again. Probably going to ski central tomorrow if its sunny.
Skiing solo is getting kind of boring I am in a white helmet, blue jacket, piss yellow pants and probably on moments if anyone else is up there.
Back in the day, there was an official TGR Only parking zone in lot 4. Try asking does anyone have change for a nickle in the lift line.
Had a lot of fun at Central tonight, skiing fast (for me) and getting big turns in. Was never too bad, but after 7:30 no waiting.

Got up to Central too late for groomers to be nothing but scraped out ice. May have to invest in something more ice coast oriented if this is the norm. Did find some decent skiing off of the Triple 60 lift, and the sun was great which is all I was really hoping for. Maybe should have just went to Alpental, found a spot in the sun, and watched the IFSA kids rip.
No stoke pics/vids, but came here to say that yesterday was REALLY good where it was good. Avoided the crowded rope drop for Chair 2 and did my first lap down debbies which was awesome untouched silky smooth goodness, and then patrol dropped the rope for Chair 2 right as i was 3 chairs from the armstrong top station... what a shitshow lol. First lap out elevator was sluffy but sick... was first into Elevator and it skied much deeper than 6-8"... was pretty fun to open it up and point/shoot some of those little chutes/chokes staying ahead of sluff and pop off the little drops down where elevator widens out. Much needed confidence booster letting me know that my body and lizard brain still have it in them. I then got stuck on Armstrong when it broke and spent the next 45 minutes on it while 10 patrollers manually pushed the chairs around the top bullwheel to get everyone off (good on them, i knew it wasnt good when the lift mechanic came out of his hobbit shack, went to the top, and then came back down before they had it running again). The international chair was a gongshow line so i called it a day. And now the international chair is out of commission for Presidents Day monday?
I concur with Californiagrown, Sunday was sweet. On another topic, and sorry if I missed it...but there was discussion on the new lift this summer where the longtime Alpental regulars had not much good to say. What's the consensus? My sample size is low, but feels like it spreads the crowds out nicely, and opens up an "easier" way to lap the side country. (not always good, I know) Also nice to lap Felson and Snake dance...Curious about what others think.
Ive only been in the area (and been a passholder) since 2014, and i only have 2 days this year because of injury... but my first day was a lesson saturday with ~6" of new snow and the longest line i encountered was on Ch2 that was only half the corral deep. It seemed very obvious to me that the new chair was spreading the crowd out because the actual skiing down international was just as crowded as it ever was below Knoll 1. Folks i talked to on the lift rides seem to concur that the new chair has significantly reduced chair waits. As someone who rarely has the opportunity to ski full days anymore (work, family obligations) it makes a BIG difference being able to get in 8 laps before noon vs 2 laps before noon.Quote:

Sunday lift follies, le mans style line reshuffling I went from chair 25ish to 2nd chair. We had first tracks into shot 6 and skied down to a big line with 5 yet to spin. One cycle later and lines were low until 1 broke down and 5 got busy. Monday somehow biggest crowds yet- massively iKonic crowd. CH5 opens at 1130 but the warm up was on. Consensus is lower mtn thru Snelsen area is hit harder, more bumps across lower I but when its running yes Saturday was almost ski on all day after 930am, I hit 9 BC laps with refills late afternoon. The Brownie Bowl gate had a lemmings traverse off the cliff on the side of knoll 2 Monday and down to Trash can, I had a chuckle at the knuckleheads falling all over the place, BC access from 5 is easier for boarders.
