A coffee station. I dream about that shit at my place. Nice job

I finished this bench a few days ago and just took some pictures in my neighbor's back yard. The bench was built from thick scraps of poplar that my friends parents had milled from their yard. The ones I used were in a huge muddy pile and I was able to save them, dry them out, and create a bench that I hope you all like. The bench has live a live edge front, back and legs.

I used a poplar spline to join the two main pieces of the bench. The ends are filled in with walnut so that it looks like it was used instead.

There were some splits in the wood so I used butterfly joints to keep them from opening up anymore. They were made out of walnut also.

I held the back on with re-bar. I bent all the pieces with a re-bar bender, drilled corresponding holes into the back of the bench and bottom of the support and then epoxied it all together.

Damn, really really nice bench. I REALLY like the rebar idea. making sweet shit out of industrial/almost free stuff is about as cool as it gets. I like the butterfly joints too.
Is that thing going to live outside? I don't know if I've ever seen spalted poplar before....sick work.
I finished it with something that is supposed seal it for outdoor use and I sealed the bottom of the legs with epoxy. I will see how the stuff holds up. I have heard good things. I like the rebar idea as well. It looks pretty good and is tough enough for this application.
I have a coffee table I will post soon. It's nothing like the bench. I think everybody will like it.
I just have to post here again to say there is some seriously cool shit being built here. That bench rules btw. And when I redo my kitchen I'm including a coffee station for sure.
Now, when I build something worthy of showing off here, I'll post some pictures.
I finished it with a bunch of this stuff. http://www.generalfinishes.com/retai...outdoor-finish
I work at a woodworking store and it's what we sell. One of my coworkers said he used it on a bench and has held up well over the last 6 months. We shall see.
And if it fails I will just send it to you :the_finge
I know Ben Robbins, who I believe co-drove with matt @ KOH this year if I have my facts right.
The springs is a good place for rock sports. JT Taylor / Lovell Bros / Rockware / etc. XRRA course right out side the city limits, 45 min to Independence.
I've been to the badlands a couple of times and a friend of mine runs in the RRock series.
that is one sexy bench. Love the contrast of the butterfly joints
I finished this a while ago and just took some pictures this afternoon.
The table was made from A/C Pine plywood from Home Depot, a little mid grade Walnut and some adhesive backed Walnut veneer.
The plywood was cut into strips then flipped on edge and glued together in groups. The groups of five or six pieces were then jointed and planed so they all had the same thickness. Then I glued the larger groups into two sections and planed those two down. This allowed me to do the final glue up with just one joint. It was a lot easier getting it even this way.
Nothing really special construction wise but I like the looks of it. The legs are 45 degrees to the corners and come all the way through the top. They are just through mortise and tenon joints. Glue and friction.
On to the pictures

^Sweet. Just read your description and wasn't feeling it, but after seeing the pics that's dam cool. I've been wanting to make a coffee table for a few years now, this inspired me.
I started this about a year ago. It is a R/C snowcat being scratch built from aluminum stock. By the time I am done it will have functioning hydraulics. It is taking sometime but I think when it is finished it will be more than worth it.

The most recent work is on the tracks. It takes some serious time bending all the metal for the grousers. Then there are the 8 m2 screws that hold each grousers to the belts. So 1100 little screws and nuts later the tracks will be held together.

the table that i spent about 100 hours on finally all but disintegrated... no more ski beer pong table.... i think i am going to turn it into a tile thing...
Hmmmm, that shape looks familiar...
I see your snowboard, and raise you a pair of skis:

Graphics are not mine. It's been pouring rain outside for the past few days so no outdoor pics for now.
Oh yeah, put together the portable bike/ski tuning bench too.
Very nice.
I'll see your skis and raise you a bike frame:

The only frames I could find with enough standover to fit my 8 year old son were cheap heavy kid's bikes.
So I built one out of thin wall aluminum.
I see your bike frame, and raise you a bike.
we built 4 of them. well, 3, the fourth is in the works. all different. this is the second one we built (me and my 2 roommates) which was achieved in a weekend by cutting apart frames we had around. now we are making them a little better from tube stock, and not cut apart old frames.

Pretty fun to ride around town, and it gets lots of comments from people.
edit: mine has a 7' 4" wheelbase. the one we are currently making (or trying) for my roommate has a 9'6" wheelbase. and the frame is a single bar instead of a triangle. dunno how that one's gonna work. got a feeling the headtube is gonna snap off
Nothing I built, but I thought the design, craftsman, landscape arch., fabricator crowd would get a kick out of these gates. Look like they were built in the 20's or 30's in Hot Springs, Va. located in Bath Co. southwest corner of the state in the blue ridge mountains, near the Homestead resort and the "Hot Spring" bath houses that've been in use since the 1700's.

Built the 14'x16' deck 2 weeks ago. There is a shitload of screws in that much trex decking, I much prefer a nail gun. Today we dug out and put down 127 16x16 pavers, 69 left to go. It has a pretty screwy pitch to keep the water out of the corner, as well as to put the pavers at a good height coming out of the shop door and at the base of the stairs. the big mistakes was not compacting and running a screed over the whole thing. instead we left it, dropped the pavers in and used a trowel to level as we went. At this point I was just handing the pavers over to the homeowner, definitely not the way I would have done things...
^^^No border? What's to keep them from moving?
Glad that's not your fail patio.
It is getting one more course along the front, and then the grass will be brought up to the edge. I'm not really sure if this will hold everything in place, like I said had this been my yard I would have done things a bit different.
What?
This really doesn't measure up with the other posts here, but I made a 4x9 "addition" to my piece of shit greenhouse in my back yard so I could use it as a workshop. I'll post the nice stuff once I have a couple of cabinet doors built. Total size after the "addition" is 9x13 feet or so. Some pics:

Nice stone work. We make imitation stone at work and it seems to be pretty popular. I'd take real stone any day, but i bet the fake stuff is a hell of a lot easier to install.
Had a small bonus room in my house didnt know what to do with it so I decided to make a bar room. Turned out great and now the main place people hang out.

Added the keg frig and tap about a year later.
