Skied the Heav today. Skiing was meh, but I did enjoy the closed areas until I was pulled over by ski patrol and given a tongue lashing, which would have been OK if the SP were female...
Also went to the ski swap at MontBleu looking for gear for my bud. Waste of time and effort IMO.
they are serious at the heave. this guy was guarding the boundaries yesterday

Had a great opening day! Good coverage on the WROD, and decent thin coverage off it, too. Employees I talked to seemed pretty positive about Vail. Also, it sounds like 6 will open as soon as there's enough snow for it. (or cold weather to make snow)
Now with more truthiness ;)
Rolled into KW this morning a bit before 9, and chair 6 was spinning (!). Then I saw Coop riding up to shoot some video or somesuch. Us regular folk were not allowed on 6, only 5 for us. It was cold and miserable. Maybe Vail does suck. I see why people hate this place.
And the true -
6 was closed - nobody was riding it. (middle Zach is quite peppery)
Coop rode 5 with the rest of us.
Everybody, employees and customers, was psyched about opening day.
There was 4-6 inches of pow-like substance on top of a base everywhere the groomer hadn't been. Some had wafer-thin crust. It was fun.
Snowed lightly off and on all day, fairly wet snow.
The drain still has a creek in it. (I checked)
Only Racecourse has enough snow to handle much skier traffic.
This is way better than last year. A big dump and it will be like two years ago :)
I also watched a first-time beginner learn to ski. In the morning, he was super shaky. I wondered who the jerk was who talked him into riding up / skiing down Chair 5. By the afternoon, he was linking pizzas in the fall line - on tele skis (!). Very impressive. At that rate of learning, and some alpine bindings, I expect we see him in the chair 6 line up soon.
Yep...first TR of the year including that yuppie gimpy. ;)

I've been around longer than you been on earth buddy. It's not like TGR is the center of the universe. Well maybe for you it is. But I was launching shit in tahoe when two skis barely made the width of one of Todays shapes, fucking gaper.

^so you're old. here's a medal.
the point being made was that gimpy was making a funny and everyone here knew it except you.
Wait, what? Gimpy I a yuppie? Fuck. I knew it. I knew it all along.
Yay snow. Dumping here on the coast

Old guy has learned to use a smartphone.
I'm often just trying to encite a riot out of lack of any snow to occupy my interest. Seems I did my job, the number posted is a mobile feel free to call it.
I also see people bashing here so much, I sometime feel the need to defend the other wise not guilty party, who, except for the attempt to transfer their stoke, did nothing wrong, and then they get run over by critical nay sayers. Thought that was one of those situations. I'm man enough to admit when I've been a DICKHEAD. Sorry I got in the middle of an inside joke. My bad. I am just as guilty as many here obviously in this case and in the future, I'm sure.
And yes, I'm old, grew up in the basin, learned to ski at Sierra ski ranch (SIERRA AT TAHOE) 43 years ago and picked all of the kirk clean like a dental assistant for years. So maybe I stuck my snoller blade in my Arse....... again, but hey that's me. Big mouth and enough experience to back it up........most of the time.
I'M JEALOUS NOT TO BE IN THE SIERRA'S
Stuck in the least coast.
Jong gone for now

Current snow line is around 8000' near Rose. Rain below that. Should give the area the slathering it needs.
just got back from the wood. Things are getting plastered nicely there. Did a lap at Danberg yesterday that was as crusty and crunchy as they come. today the same lap was creamy goodness, although i was completely soaked at the end.
6 was running, not loading. not going to today. Tomorrow?
Powdork what do you estimate the snow level was out there, the snowtel sensors have not been to encouraging.
when i left there was snow falling hard at the base, though it was obviously above freezing. it was also snowing hard at carson pass. at the top of danberg there was an inch+ or so of snow on the road, considerably more on top of the snowpack. Overall it was fluctuation bewteen 7800 and 8200
whats up with the heave today?? looks like they have nothing running.
I skied the Heave today, light rain at the lake and a blizzard on top, I left at noon because they where getting ready to shut it down because of wind, but it was fun while it lasted, 2-3" of fresh.
Mercury is supposed to drop tonight, so tommorrow should be $weet. I woudn't be surprised to see some wind hold at the Heave again tomorrow. Forecasting gusts up to 90 mph on ridges.
Recent response from Coop on Facebook, about 45 minutes ago:
"We are looking at all options for more terrain. Fro tomorrow we will open Solitude Chair 5. Next on the list is The Reut & Snowkirk. We now need temps to drop so we can subsidize the Ma~Natural with snow making to fill in the blanks... Perfect base building tonight.. We'll keep looking day to day."
So if you were hoping 6'd go tomorrow... looks unlikely.
However, good to know Coop will be rocking "Fro tomorrow" I am sick of that long hippy hair.
I also like how "mother nature's natural (tm)" is now just "Ma-Natural." Come on, Coop, pick a catchprase and stick with it.
Stay thirsty my bro-bros,
SSD
This all sounds like very good news. Above freezing, but snowing, at the base means thins are getting slathered. Keep it coming. Just hope now that the last 6" fall a cold snow. Then things will be good to go.
I stated earlier that I got hit by Ski Patrol at Heavenly for skiing closed terrain. Today my buddy got stopped and given a yellow card for doing the same. WTF, the closed stuff is the only terrain worth skiing. We did this all last year without incident. Can't wait for enough snow to exit the gates.
Be careful out there. By this I mean watch out for those enforcing the rules of papa Vail.
Sierra Avalanche Report is on Facebook for Mt Rose area.
Bottom line is (STAY OUT) Sunday will not be the day to go get some up there

So it will stack ontop of that all day and all night. Waddya think?
So, you duck ropes and get called on it? So odd a company that is trying to avoid injury and lawsuits would do such a thing. I mean, when I walk into a Home Depot, and they put up those "safety" gates to "keep me out of an area" and I jump over them, because I really need a female quarter turn, why I'd never expect for them to tell me to GTFO. What is it these days with private companies enforcing their rules. I bet it is Obama and the mommy state.
also from the link though
of course, there is going to be a lot of new snow overnight on top of that layer if it stays reactiveQuote:
Shooting cracks, cracking and collapsing were common but no avalanches were observed or could be initiated by ski cuts.
Was outside a few minutes ago here in Sac, and the wind just turned that kind of cold that makes me think Tahoe's gonna get it good tonight. Wish I could get up there this week, stupid classes and stupid Thanksgiving...
