What's the point you're making?
This judge must be one of those Alta kooks;
"One of the three judges hearing the case interrupted the snowboarders’ lawyer to ask about Alta customer surveys showing that the skiers don’t want snowboarders around. The lawyer bristled."
Talk about a biased survey! When considering the Alta customer base without a ban, you would have to include the people being banned, and the guests accompanying those people, all of which would speak against the ban...except that they are banned and thus excluded from the survey results.
Frankly the snowboarders' lawyer should have been able to beat back the safety argument a lot easier than he has thus far. He needs only point to all of the other resorts that have dropped similar bans without any negative impacts.
Frankly I think this is all a moot point though. It only a matter of time until All 7 of the resorts are truly interconnected. That interconnect has to go through Breighton. Any ban on snowboards is a deal-breaker that being the case. DV and Alta may be stubborn but they are not dumb. They'll drop the silly snowboard bans on their own to make the interconnect happen. It has always been about money, and the interconnect is far more lucrative than a (literally) dying niche market.
That whole blind spot safety argument is such a load of shit. If I were the snowboard lawyer I'd simply ask the Alta lawyer to stand sideways to the judge, then ask him if by turning his head over his shoulder if he could see the judge. If that didn't work then surly Alta can produce the data that shows the number of snowboard related collisions that were deemed to be the result of said blind spot.
I support Alta in this but their argument is lame. I would just stick to the point that they are limiting a device, not a certain class of people, and that it's a business decision.
for every snowboarder sitting down on the run there's a skier thwapping around their poles in the base area.
we're all ridiculous people for doing what we do. we're even more ridiculous if we think we're better than someone else that's basically doing the exact same thing.
the butthurt is strong in this thread
and it sure seems that being willing and able to ski
is the primary cause of the assache
Hitting "features" at the side of a run is a violation of the safety code for snow sliders. You are supposed to stop and look uphill when entering a run. Trying to say that someone following the code is wrong is stupid. I'm not saying I follow the code every time but basing your argument on that is stupid, but I guess we should expect that from you.
I don't have a problem with snowboarders, I have a problem with reckless and inconsiderate people regardless of what they slide on.
u talking to me! sounds like you talking to me!
the point is that you would have no sport if it wasnt for my father and other skiers in north america
also, ive skied both alta and snowbird. snowbird better so shut the fuck up and go slide around liike a goon
also when i skied alta some lady wouldnt shutup about snowboarders on the lift, kinda disgusting
I'm going to assume that you're a retard if you can't read the part where I stated I don't always follow the code. Judging from the actions of most snowboarders and skiers I don't believe most of them can do it safely. Just because you CAN do it safely doesn't mean you are following the code.
I've gotten to the point now that I just run right over the boards.
Rule 6: Stopping on the piste
Unless absolutely necessary, a skier or snowboarder must
avoid stopping on the piste, in narrow places or where visibility is restricted.
After a fall in such a place, a skier or snow-boarder must move clear of the piste as soon as possible
You sit in middle of trail, I run over your boards. End of story.
And how many hundreds of times do you see a boarder coming out of the trees, breaking onto a trail without ever looking uphill??
Well thats why they make pointy ski poles.
i feel like boarders shouldnt be allowed in the trees
Oh, and I've forgotten the other classic.
I'm a snowboarder, but I can't board on this hill in powder so I'll just slide along with my board across the fall line dredging a five foot swath of snow to ruin the snow & trail for everybody else.
JONGness does not discriminate based on equipment. But discriminating based on equipment is not a constitutional issue.
Skier stopped in the middle of runs just as often as snowboarders the only difference is that you don't sit down when you stop typically you're doing the point or something stupid like that.
The only reason you notice snow borders when they stop and not skiers is because you're prejudiced
have to question what kind of anger issues you have when you go up to the mountain to enjoy the day in the snow and instead of just enjoying yourself you decide to be aggressive in basically assault people because they've stopped somewhere that you don't like
now your butthurt cause there aint no jazzhand, petting the dog, flailing hands hof worthy thread

only thing sadder than an asshole is the hurt one
So the snowboarders are up in arms again about Alta? Huh.

I could give two shits about Alta. It's the fucking kooks who need to distinguish the two sports in some quest for fucking who knows what that obviously need their Neanderthal ways of thinking brought to light.
Yes skiers stop in the middle of runs and that is wrong. A skier stopped on piste is standing up and visible, 10 teenagers sitting together strung across the piste are hard to see and navigate even if they are tagging along with their cool skier friends. This perception that snowboarders sit on the piste and are hard to see isn't imaginary. They're all wrong, yes even the skiers stopped in the middle of the run. It's wrong to assault anyone, it's also wrong to sit in the middle of a ski run. This is a good example of the "right not to be offended" syndrome, you have it.
In this age of all things needing to be PC, I could give a fuck if anyone's feelings are hurt just because of what another party may say or do. There are plenty of places to ski. Why does any group or person get their panties in a bunch just because they are told to go someplace else? All you fucking participants need to get a grip. Your not always invited. Deal with it.
Thanks for your response, however, your points are easily invalidated by tons of evidence that skiers are just as shitty at snowsliding in sample groups......it is 50/50 shitty out of control wankers who are beginners and crashing into patrons.
As for "sideslipping" I have plenty of evidence skiers do the same thing...only worse because of the larger skis.
Remember, Alta has shitty traverses and long flat run-outs....the hipsters will leave once they realize how shitty Alta can be when you suck at snow sliding.
Anyways, Back for another year of Shame at Alta until they open their public doors to world wide lift approved snow sliders.
Dude, this thread has traction!!
Nobody cares that you can't snowboard Alta
Reading through this is actually so fucking funny that I use it to teach kids in my class about stupidity, entitlement and ownership. they don't allow snowboarding .. end of story its they right to do so and the courts will not change it nor should they. I like the fact that MRG , DV , and Alta have stuck it out and do their own thing.. I snowboard and ski......the fight will continue and hope the three stay they way they want to run their hill. For all the morons that are worried about SB hitting their kids or being out of control well I guess your gonna put padding around the car they drive when they are older as well..ur called HELIPARENTS FOR A REASON. and if your a boarder and crying over the hill u cant ride at go elsewhere... if your a parent trying to protect ur kid like a heliparent well then your kids may have a tough time adjusting to the real world when MOMM and DADDY aren there to wipe your ass. either way this has been one entertaining read ........
again I hope the three last as individuals and keep their hills the way they want them....Snowboard free....sucks for boarders yes but such as life...
I thought this was settled anyway? No one is restricting snowboarders from RIDING on the hill, Alta just won't allow them to RIDE the lifts. No person is being excluded from riding the lifts only that people can't ride lifts with a snowboard. Anyone can ride the lifts with skis. It's really simple, your snowboard is not a protected class. I have no problems with snowboarder at my hill, it's has a bunch of long traverses and hikes and most snowboarders don't bother.
Aaron, there is no reason why Snowboards can't ride the lifts. Private resort, sure, no issue. Public land, all access for approved devices.
Poor guy. No one gives a shit.
