Just discovered the "on this day in history" function on my Relisten app. I've been listening to a full show from 1977 about every day. It's been great month so far.
That Fall 83 tour is stacked! Been listening to this over the past few days:

That's one of my favorite tours. A little before my time but I dig pulling out shows from fall 83. It gets over looked. Lots of issues around that time. Sloppy playing sometimes. Obvious disconnect from Garcia on some nights as well as others. But, fall '83 is mostly really tight. Love that one!Quote:

just realized i was listening to 5-9-77, a few days before the thread title. i've been stuck around 73-74 for quite a while now so that 83 show was a pleasant surprise. most of them are.
dead and co playing the moda center in july i think. and an amphitheater in washington. too rich for my blood.

saw bobby with members of the national and steve kimock in brooklyn last friday. it was great! mostly stuff from his new album in the first set. great album if you havent listened. then mostly dead in the second. very enjoyable
I watched the show from the Cap on Sunday night. It might still be available for free on nugs.tv. Really good stuff. I think playing that style for Weir is the best place for him at this point in his life. Seems at home and in tune with the music.
Hopefully this group will do another tour.

was at 10/8 and 10/9, first shows ever. Maybe not the golden era of the band, but this was the timeframe of all our tapes. Iowa city 82, charlotte 84, Palo Alto somwheres that tiimeframe, Merriweather, Hampton, wore those tapes out in the day.Quote:

Just had a long exchange w a friend about those msg shows yesterday! We were talking about the huge storm that night and about how 10-12 is amazing as well (huge cold rain, looks like rain, and maybe best slipknot ever!?) phil shared mic earlier at Santa Fe and then it wasn't till 84 and why don't we do it in the road w phil getting his mic. Amazing to think what they had to do on 10-12 after the monumental breakout at 10-11... but give 10-12 a listen too.
