guess it was a true statement after all
I guess not. They all look like semi-autos to me. Just 'cause a gun looks scarey doesn't make it a "sub machinegun". I've got a Yugo AK-47, so far it only shoots one round at a time.
I'll maybe give you a pass with the MG-42, but the other 1023 gun pics here are all of semis, bolts, pumps and double barrells.
Dude, I was just at a local shop and there were two of them in the rack. Both were SEMI-AUTO. Do you even know the cost and the bullshit red tape you have to go through to buy a fully automatic firearm?
Why don't you just drop it post some photos of you guns. Or are you just here to take up the FAIL of Dex and truckeelocal?
Clearly I'm not nearly as well prepared as some of you to defend the mothership, but this is my baby for target shooting.

This may have already been said but I didn't have the patience to read another 10 pages before getting this off my chest...
Moronic use of irrelevant statistics here. Crime ridden areas are less likely to have a high percentage of gun ownership. Crime ridden areas are generally high density areas where a very small percentage of the population owns guns. They are typically areas where people don't know who lives in the apartment next door much less most of the neighbors within several miles of their home. Crime ridden areas tend to be low income areas where firearms are in the hands of a tiny percentage of people. The tiny percentage that have them are either petrified of the violence they live in and spend money they really can't afford to protect themselves with said firearm, or are using the firearm to steal other peoples belongings and terrorize or intimidate people that normally would spit in their faces if they weren't carrying said firearm.
The highest concentration of gun owners tend to live in sparsely populated areas, where they likely know 70% or more of the people that live within 5 miles and generally trust that most of those people would never even think of stealing from them or harming them.
Kind of makes you think that maybe you ought to think more, eh Truckee?
Toys. Might need them to defend the casa if the economy continues it's current path down the shitter. No worries, I have plenty of ammo.

Actually, they are all full auto. The M-11, the Thompson M1A1, and 1928 Thompson are true submachine guns, i.e. firing a pistol cartridge. The HK 53 fires a .223 rifle cartridge, and of course, the MG-42 fired a .308.
The red tape is not that bad. Once the gun transfers into your state, you file duplicate Form 4's, signed by the sheriff, a certificate of citizenship, and duplicate fingerprint cards, along with the required $200 tax per firearm, then wait about 90 days. If you've done everything correctly, your dealer has you complete a 4473 just like any firearm and you take it home. Only other required paperwork comes if you want to take the MG out of state, you have to obtain approval from ATF on a Form 5320, which can be good for up to one year.

I kinda figured if they were yours they were full-auto. I just wanted to argue with Basinbum. Don't tell him....;)
The $200 tax is what really kills it for me. I hate taxes enough as they are. That and the ultra-high price of the actual weapon. For that much $$ I'd rather get a .50 or that new sporty CheyTac.
I was really surprised at how unbelievably heavy those Thompsons are, even without the loaded drum.
I still don't own any guns but today was a good time. We went to my brother-in-law's range with a few of his toys, including this brand new 1919 semi-automatic monster:

A few other options for today:

I couldn't see the target after firing this thing but after checking it out, I was able to hit three of about 20 rounds on the target.

The shotgun was a little easier to manage.

No pics of the 357 magnum but that was easily one of my favorites today. Good times.
Used to have a 1919, brute of a gun. Got it set up to run 8mm, much cheaper than 30-06 or .308. Cloth belts were much easer on the trunion that metal links. Links were easier to work though.
Anything with a go fast switch??
Ken
No full autos - but that 1919 could use it.
Until you have to feed it. I have owned three full auto belt feds, a 1919, a Maxim 08/15, and an MG-42. Unless you have a deep pocket, a reloading setup, or a source of free ammo, they are expensive to run.
The 42 would rip a 100 round belt of .308 in a few seconds, and it was set up with a heavy bolt feature to slow the rate of fire.
Here's a clip of it on youtube.

Yeah, it had a factory "Italian" upgrade with a 950 gram bolt that slowed it to about 900 rpm.
fits better here
FKNA it was a GREAT day.
Today was the day to shoot my step-father's Remington 30.06 700 series bolt action. First two shots of my life from any gun.
He's letting me borrow both this season.
8 miles north of my house is the boundary line deciding if you can use a rifle.
50 yards w/ 150 grain Winchester bullets. Surprised by amount of recoil. I felt very comfortable and safe.
Guys I shot with were knowledgeable and assisted me. Going again next weekend.
Moved back to 100 yards and did well. But don't have target pic.
Sorry for pic size and possible vocabulary errors. Still a Jong @ both.

Going deer hunting in Manistee National Forest with friends and their fathers and uncles in a couple of weeks.
I have been interested in hunting for years, but for some reason my father would never take me.
He has since passed away.
It's ironic, he stopped when I was 5, and now my oldest is 5 and I want to be able to share with him (and his younger brother)
in a few years the opportunity and let them decide if it's something they want to pursue.

I also shot the 12 gauge slug-barreled shot gun with glow sights. Not comfortable without scope outside 50 yards.
Very fun!
I love light triggers on certain rifles, but why would anybody want a 3lb trigger on an AK?
I probably wouldn't want a light trigger, but i would definitely want a shorter pull if it were my gun.
I let my buddy know about Red Star. Thanks for the heads up!

No pics. just wanted to be on the gun stoke thread.
Best day shooting. A pair of matched 15 shot semi-auto 22 pistols shooting double handed. No sighting in just walking rounds in from both hands. I got surprisingly accurate after a few tries.
We did have some guns that made bigger bangs. But having the pair was killer.
Love to shoot at night too. That is some serious fun to watch the flame.

In honor of the election, I'm planning on applying for conceal & carry in MN. I just want to be on "the list". :)
Any reviews on the Walther P22? That'll be #1 in line, followed by a gov't Colt 1911 .45.
P-22's are hit and miss. Some work, many don't. I really don't think I would want a .22 as a concealed carry piece. lots of better choices for the same money. The new Ruger LCP, Keltec's, small frame 9mm Glock (and I hate Glocks)etc. Bigger caliber, better stopping power.
Now, with that said, it's hard to beat a .45. But you need to realize that a 1911 is not the most concealable piece and its a big, heavy chunk of metal. Limited round capacity. And, on top of that, to be effective you have to carry it "cocked and locked". Meaning you typically carry the weapon with the hammer in the cocked position and the safety on. You have to be very familiar with the operation of the weapon to use it, i.e. remember to take off the safety. As much as I love the ones I have, they don't make it into the concealed carry arena very much. Again, lots better choices of a .45 if that's your thing. If you're going to carry a 1911, you had better plan on running a bunch of rounds through it to get comfortable. And if you're set on Colt, plan on sending it back for a tune-up to get it to function reliably.
If your looking for something fairly small but still good power and a good carry piece maybe look at a Sig 229?? I had one a loved it.
I'm not applying for the permit to actually be able to carry. I'm just doing before the politics hit and laws start to be challenged/repealed. I'm more or less just making a statement and planning on doing it before the next administration is in place.
The .22 will actually be a usable piece - plinking and so on, whereas the .45 is more of a nostalgia thing. I carried one quite a bit in the military. They are more effective as a "thrown weapon" than as an accurate target piece. It's kinda between that, a Beretta 92FS, and a Glock 22. We'll see. I'm just in the looking stage right now.
I had a 9mm S&W (forget the model now) a few years back that was okay, but at the time I owned it, I was not comfortable having it around with roommates and so on, so I sold it - and bought some skis!
Election day shopping is fun...

Yeah, most folks are sold out of AR's right now, receivers and complete guns. Mags are gone too. Local ammo dealer said they had never had such sales. Personally, I've got to get some Title 2 guns home and a can before January, and build a couple of AR's and AK's.
