Soft supportive turns on the east side of Lincoln and Judah side-xtry were found after some time in the sun. About 115 cm total depth with 10 cm ski penetration in the shade.

N. Side of Castle seemed busy with lots of touring parties and a few dogs. Was in great shape and always nice to get back in there before the snowmobiles.

Skied Palisades Sunday with my 13 yr old. Best part of the day was how on top of their gear and ski shit they were.
We started at Alpine considering the upper mountain opening on the Olympic Valley side. No one at Alpine and we logged over 6500' by 10:10am. Then we took the gondola over to Olympic Valley side.

We lapped down to Resort chair four times. My kid was loving flying down the wide open groomer. After I first lap I was playing in the off piste open on that side. It was skiing so well.

Finally made it to the upper mountain and took a few laps on Siberia and then skied the stuff above Solitude and finally finished with a lap under Headwall.

Duct taped up my car. On yeah, tagged a deer on 80 at daybreak. I was in the passing lane when it leaped over the meridian out of the dark and landed directly in front of my car. I was able to swerve toward the barrier and just get its hind side on my right bumper. Scary AF.
Snow was great. Got warm later but still skied great. Stoked to be back on snow.

Only issue is getting them to you. I'm in SC and will next be up to Kirkwood over the holidays.

I don't live in South Lake, but a buddy renovated this hotel, and it's relatively affordable and walking distance to the Heavenly gondola. But I'm no Heavenly skier, so defer to those folks on where is best to stay.Quote:

This is a VailCorp town. Trashy AND overpriced is the only option.
Limiting yourself to walking distance of the gondola will significantly reduce your choices. Especially since the gondola access point is prone to closing due to wind and/or financial concerns.
Heavenly runs free shuttle buses that circulate downtown, and will bring you right to the base areas. I would recommend staying anywhere near those routes. Taxis, rideshare, and free microtransit are also available here 24/7.

Yes, staying in a casino or the Marriot will mean the least amount of walking to the tourist attractions. The station house in is probably a fair choice, too.

The current recommendation is to install chains on all four wheels while parked with your ass end hanging out into the slow lane. Do this down around Gold Run to avoid issues with construction near Baxter. Then drive 20 mph all of the way to PaliValley for that extra margin of safety.Quote:

Stardust lodge is the closest other than the two Marriott properties surrounding the gondola. I would consider the walk from Station House just far enough to be in the PITA zone both ways. Timber Cove is the cheaper of the Marriotts. Forest Suites is also super close on the uphill side.
