The family and myself made our annual thanksgiving trek to Western North Carolina, on the southern border of GSMNP. I try and take some time each year to sneak away for some therapy, fishing one of the innumerable options in the area.
Unfortunately the area hasn't had any rain to speak of in months, so water is low, and wildfires abundant.
I decided to take a few hours to fish Deep Creek on Thursday. Fishing in the steps of legendary Appalachian outdoors men like Mark Cathey and Horace Kephart.
The parking lot at the trailhead was full of tourist family's taking their Thanksgiving walks on an easy, but very scenic trail.

On limited time, I wasn't going to be able to hike in too far, but knew I'd be able to get away from the humans fairly easily as the trail eventually rises pretty high above the creek.

Forgot my tube, so this wasn't a problem. A few summers ago I witnessed an Indian family dressed in full street clothes walking up the trail with tubes. Unfortunately I wasn't able to document it with pics.
I got in the water at the first bridge past Indian Creek.
Target acquired. Attachment 193556 Tied on a tan caddis with a hares ear as a dropper. Saw a fish rise to eat something just off the right bank. First cast to that vicinity and this fella took the dry. Attachment 193557
BWOs started coming off, but I never once went to my pack to change my rig. Even after beating the shit out of my caddis with my hemostats on the first fish, fish were still rising to the fly.
Slowly moved up the Creek and took a small rainbow..Attachment 193558 Attachment 193560
Missed a few more, had one to hand that "prereleased". At this point, it was time to get back to the fam. Was pretty much walled out from the trail, but didn't feel like sloshing back where I'd come from so decided to bushwhack and claw myself up the steep bank thru the rhodo.

The point of egress.

Can't wait to get back in there when I have a full day to explore...but for a few hours, it was good therapy.

Yep. That's me. Right across from the house where Brad W is doing the addition, which is taking fucking forever. Let me know if you ever want to borrow the boat.

I think we were at a mutual friends house on the 4th maybe.
My wife is friends with Monica, that was the first time I met Ryan. I bet you were hanging with all the dudes around the bar while I was kid wrangling. Adam H is a good friend of mine, or rather, our wives are besties.

I really should come skiing with you guys.
Yes. You should. Every Thursday. We usually meet in the lot around 9 and ski till around noon. Then party time. If the weather is shitty we go to Pep's instead. Look for us doing something like this, usually with more people:

Posting this publicly because that's a public invite for skiing at Winter Park, and the same goes for fishing.
