rolex watches...really?

This thread made me pull out our Tags. I’ve always had a thing for them. But now I find myself wearing mine less and less.

From left to right:

1) Freebie a jeweler threw in when I bought my wife’s link way back, maybe late 90’s.

2)Wife’s link, late 90’s that she retired because it is too small. I’m thinking as she gets older she may go back to it.

3) My link from mid 90’s, this has been converted to my wife’s daily.

4) My favorite watch that I never wear. I love the classic look.

5) My daily driver for the last 15 years that the wife got me for my first Father’s Day.

I’ve found watches to be an effective way for dealing with annoying disposable income. I just like them, I don’t know why exactly. But as someone mentioned above, you’re either into them, or not. My current quiver (:cool:) - the upper right one was my dad’s. The one next to it (a daily driver) stopped running, so I replaced it with the one to the left, then it started running again. Top left I wear on my motorcycle for visibility, the one to the right is my “dress” one, bottom right two are cheap ones for heavy work or play. The others I got just because I could, I like them. In my defense, I don’t spend much money on cars or trucks.

Those are sweet!

I really liked the look of the Titanium watch band of the Casio pathfinder but in practise I found metal didnt adj well around BC shells or drysuit cuffs and it broke a few times so after it broke the watch housing falling off a ladder

I went back to the plastique

I had a favorite one of those '50's Tudor Oysterdates that was stolen from my house in a burglary. Still pine for it.

The black Omega Speedmaster was my fav, it first watch on the moon (obviously not that particular one.) The Seiko's were sentimental peices.

Yeah, I haven't spent tens of dollars on a watch since I bought a $19 Timext in the 60s. It took a lickin', but didn't keep on tickin'. Still, wasn't bad for a cheap watch.

Nah, took a bath on them and other things as well. Personal property was a % of total, so we didn't come anywhere near full compensation. We will see what happens with SCE lawsuit. Same on the house, while we were a bit under insured, the cost of rebuilding in southern CA went through the roof, not to mention they give just a pittance for landscape.

Wore watches for years. To tell time.
Fucking smartphones always have time, so I stopped.
But I’ve never been a jewelry guy.

I had two Omegas. A gold won I received as an award in school and a steel one that was my dad's. When I retired and stopped wearing watches I gave one to each kid. They both like watches. I don't like watches you have to wind. Cheap battery watches keep better time than the Omegas.

I have the chrono version of that one, steel w/ black dial

You can make good money flipping watches and they are a whole lot easier to move around than cars.

I really regret not getting into that business. When I retired from trading and moved to fucking Missouri I had a nice collection and realized you could make a few grand a month doing that. My ex was actually setting up websites and if we had not hated each other it could have been great. I was also afraid of not having technical knowledge to spot fakes.

I sold a 10,000 Ulysses nardin on eBay in 2007. The guy was American and owned strip clubs in Thailand. He called me and said I sounded trust worthy and sent me a cashiers check. When he got the watch he was so happy he was not ripped off he offered me a free Thai vacation. I respectfully declined.

Still, building that eBay acct would have been key in 2007.

casio solar powered watch never needs a battery and the time is set by satellite every night so the time is always sameas my computer time

i don't think any of these expensive watchs are about accuracy really its about the bling factor

I think some people complain about not having enough money and they put themselves in that situation through bad decisions. Some people complain about having to spend money on certain things but probably have enough of it. I haven't really heard either from the dudes talking about watches in this thread.

Some people talk about being able to not work because they forego certain luxury items and have made sound financial decisions to reach their goals. It's still bragging even if it's humble bragging.

I've heard everybody whine about money somewhere but Isnt a thread on watches that don't tell time > a battery op watch bragging, isnt TGR all about bragging ?

Bragging and a place for guys to get porn so their wives won't see porn sites in their browser history.

if my wife didn't see porn in my browsing history she would be very worried.
