Serious crema! Awesome
I use a good old stainless steel Cafetera but I pre-boil water 1st rather then wait for it heat up. Big difference doing that
Then I prep the insert and fill it with coffee and place it in a cup so it won't tip over.
I waste no time pouring the water in the Cafetera and placing in the coffee. I close it quick (careful use a towel very hot)
Place it back on the burner which should still be on from boiling the water
In about 10 seconds or less it's done
It never tastes off or burnt just perfect
Old school with a twist (no lemon)

Timely bump.
My Jura (equivalent to the current S9) that we got as a wedding present just permanently shit the bed. As I'm not in the mood to drop 2 grand on a replacement, what do the mags suggest as a reasonable replacement? I'm spoiled by the good coffee/espresso this thing makes. :(
So, bottomless totally worth it? Internet tells me it's a great for improving technique -- is that really true or does it just look cool?
Not nearly as rad as sfotex, but I'm quite stoked on stepping up my morning pretense with these new espresso cups

Manual or super automatic? You can get a refurb w/ warranty of the S9 for under a $1000 (maybe less with coupon) https://www.wholelattelove.com/produ...-touch-classic
If you want manual I'll sell you my old Silvia that I just replaced for $200+ship, works great and is capable of good drinks. You'll just have to dig up a grinder, mazzer minis go pretty cheap on fleabay.
What went on it? Our F7 had the brew group start to fail after about 10,000 cups. Sent it to parts guru in PA for repair. It's been a couple of years and another couple thousand cups and it's still cranking. They did a good job cleaning and changed a lot of seals and gaskets. Seems that Jura is kind of a dick when it comes to replacement parts for the US market.
Heating element, then the grinding mechanism, and a mystery leak. All happened days within each other. My guess is the leak is the cause of it all. Called and got an early response that it needs a complete overhaul from what I'm telling them. Prices quoted (without seeing it) were in the range of a new(er) machine. I love this thing it's been reliable up till this point for nearly a decade.
Yeah, ours was almost $400 to fix, including shipping. Got the machine on sale through Costco for $700 years ago so our current total investment is on par with a new machine. Based upon the cups made its just under 9 cents a cup. Add in coffee and consumables and we are under 40 cents a cup for coffee that beats most anything you can buy.
~12 years ago we dropped coin on an espresso machine at the (then) Starbucks. Our particular model has a brisk aftermarket and makes excellent espresso, but the daily grind is getting me down, I've got the robotic routine down to a trance in the morning.
An friend of a friend cycled through town and only drinks percolated coffee. She buys one where ever she goes and we ended up with it. I've read many places percolated coffee is really the best. How's the mag experience? I'm impressed so far. Very easy to make.
Aeropress is all you need to know. For $25 it makes a better espresso (or americano) that most machines that cost thousands of $$$$$
I love love love my Aeropress, but it does not make espresso. A damn fine cup of coffee at a dirt cheap price, yes, but not espresso.
Since we're momentarily off-topic on the Aeropress, other than a french press what's the closest thing out there that can make more than one cup at a time?
S-in-J, I can't imagine you'd like perc after having good espresso.
I've read several places that the best cup of coffee is percolated... yes percolated...??? It's almost boiling water through coarse grounds. We've made some excellent coffee. Basically the routine of espresso/lattes is getting old after all these years.
We have to make perc coffee at all the backcountry huts, and I still haven't figured out how to get it right.
We always bring a lexan french press. Hate perc coffee. Like the aeropress but need a biggun.
I've been in the espresso worm hole for over two years. I have yet to upgrade from my little Breville machine. It is great in it's simplicity. Is it going to pull shots like a La Marzocco? Heck no. But at 05:00 each day it has been flawless for two cappuccino and a double shot. My Baratza Vario is the workhorse that makes it happen. Also roast my own beans in a Behmor.
