The Official Salomon S/Lab SHIFT MNC Thread -AMA

The 19/20 and 20/21 Atomic/Salomon tech manuals said to set the toe height to (the conventional) 0.5mm gap. The 21/22 manuals say to "adjust the toe height with adjustment screw until to create a gap of the thickness of the mounting instruction sheet between the boot sole and the binding" which is 0.1mm (so essentially just touching). The instruction sheets that came with my 21/22 stock delivery still says to use instruction sheet doubled over which would show as a whisker of a gap - but still too much.

Yep, got 'em at the right price - especially as travel to Yurp for us Brits is currently a nightmare and France, our biggest destination, is a no-no so I'm currently over stocked!

Hi, I have the Shift 10 and REI told me my boot (a La Sportiva Spectre) is incompatible because the toe is too high and it is not ISO 9523. From what I can research, it is ISO 9523, and the toe is 30mm, which is within the parameters. Unfortunately, REI seems correct that the Shift is not going to work with this boot -- the AFD plate does not go down enough to provide the toe clearance. Any advice? I think I may shave/grind/sand down the vibram boot soles to provide a bit more clearance (I think we are talking 1-2mm). I'd hate to have to buy new boots or return the bindings.

Yep, just grind a bit off the sole. The tricky thing is taking the exact same amount off both boots and even across the sole. I've done this in the past for some AT soles to fit in Lords/Griffon ID's and I used my base machine - standing the boot heel on the machine chassis and lowering the toe sole on to the belt keeps everything square.

Find a place that does sole grinding and router the toe welt down to match a 9523 boot. It will be perfect that way.

I have read a lot of this thread and found myself a cheap pair of brand new shifts to try (with the updated DIN window), despite all the challenges. I am a lightweight and bindings others have trashed have worked well for me.

BUT, does anyone know if there will be significant updates to the shift for next year, specifically with the brake deployment issues, etc? Is it worth waiting for the new ones? I'd rather spend a few bucks more if there is a better version in 22/23. I searched the new gear rumors thread too, but didn't see anything.

Plastic junk..

Kinda want to try to warrant this but will probably not get anywhere.

Coworker had the same thing happen. He didn’t hit try to warranty but still skis them and says they still work fine

Yeah, the ski functionality is unaffected - I'm just worried if I put them in walk mode I'll need tools to get them back into ski mode.

No but I have two if you want them (if you’re talking the heel track). I’m based in salt lake in winter, free if you can meet up or price of postage if you can’t.

They're not in the Salomon/Atomic/Armada spare parts list and are not available to purchase.

Don’t worrry… once Strive hits the market, there will be spare parts/ broken parts / extra parts for all the Shift technology.

Has anyone dealt with a cracked toepiece? I'm not sure how this crack happened since I bought them used, just noticed it after mounting. Photo and video attached. I feel like I'm SOL since it's not on the parts list.

I saw an exploded toe piece at the ski shop last week. Tech said it was the first one he’d seen.

How assploded was it?

I ask because this toepiece, aside from the cracked part, is minty. I wonder if it hit something hard.

I may remount my shift on another pair and considering the existing holes, I can either mount at 304mm either at 284mm, my boot is 294mm. I don't care about resale value. Is there any pro/con between the 2 scenarios ? I think I've read here that someone thought that there was less brakes problem if the heel is 1cm backwards rather than 1cm forward ?

Speaking of brakes… how well do they take to bending? I have a set of 110s I want to put on 120mm skis. I’ll spend the money on replacements if I have to but I’d rather waste it on something stupid.

My 110mm brakes are too big for my 112mm skis and it looks like it would work on my 122mm skis. I have the first EU batch, not sure if they changed the sizing since then, if not, I'd say no bending required.

Hoping this hasn't been covered yet, ran through as much of this monster thread as possible.

Unmounted a pair of Shifts a couple days ago to discover that the small plate that holds the two rear toe screws in place has come loose from the rest of the toe assembly. It seems to slide on a small piece of plastic that failed.

Logically, this tiny plastic part can't play a functional role in keeping the binding on the ski, right? Would hate to have to pick up another toe for such a BS reason.

Has anyone else experienced this?
