So, one of my last rides in fall I had to lay my bike down in a rock garden. I bent the rear brake lever (right, 'cause america).
It's this:
Shimano XT BL-M8000 Right Brake Lever Member Unit
They, like everything else are out of stock seemingly everywhere.
Anyone have one in their parts bin?
If not, it looks pretty damn similar to the xtr and slx versions of the same thing, if, by some miracle I find one of those in stock, does anyone know if I can swap that out?

Not necessarily true... IME, Shimano has the shortest lead times on a lot of parts when it comes to putting together builds, at least when using my connections. SRAM/RockShox is the worst culprit by far. For instance, SLX 4-piston brakes are out until March, but G2 RSC isn’t available until October. It just all depends on who ordered what and how much, meaning bike companies/distributors/retail sellers. Regardless, it’s a fucking shit show. I had to get super creative with things in order to have demo bikes (supposedly) ready by next spring.Quote:

Although shimano's lead times haven't exactly been accurate. Like, in august the eta for a lot of shimano parts was oct-nov and now some of that stuff is listed as far out as next summer (an slx rear derailleur for example). Many things are supposedly arriving pretty early next year though.
I'm slightly concerned about getting a new bike or two next year but it's the shops that probably need to be the most worried about having anything to sell. At one point last year my lbs had about 3 new mtbs on the floor plus a couple road and gravel bikes.
Who's done a VO2 max test before? I am scheduled for one the first week of January.
I did years ago in exchange for being involved in a health and human performance study a buddy was wondering on. I don't have the results anymore but remember that I fell within the bell curve; I was/am right at average. He said at most I could increase it somewhere in the vicinity of 10%. He advised me to work on my lactic acid threshold. I did it on a trainer with Johnny Cash cranked. It was fun! I don't know if the numbers I posted above RE: percentage, etc are still valid? That was 25 yrs ago and current science might say different 'things'. Have fun!
I have done VO2 tests twice. The first was in college for some study, and the second was in my late 20s for a different college study. This one also included a lactic acid prick test, which was cool.
My numbers were pretty different from one to the other, even though I was prob similarly fit. The earlier one was near sea level, and the second one was at 8k, so I think that accounts for most of it.
The only really interesting takeaway for me was that in the second test I my numbers were in line with the faster members of the CC running team at Western State, but I am not much of a runner and when I tried to run with them they always dropped me like a sack of potatoes, especially on the flats. That's when I really appreciated what I now call "real runners", which I think has as much to do with biomechanics as aerobic capacity.

This is probably a better question for the physio, but big toe pain from cycling? Only my left toe, only when riding the indoor trainer, so I am guessing it's the shoe/cleat setup? Kinda like bad turf toe or something.
Are your feet different in terms of width and length? Mine are almost 2 sizes different in length and about the same physical width but different in width in terms of sizing due to the ratio difference. 15 hrs of cramming my larger foot in climbing shoes left me with neuroma and exacerbated my turf toe tendencies.... Wider forefoot shoes with aftermarket footbeds or actual orthotics might help?
My wife had to do yearly VO2 max testing for a job that included hazmat work (scientist) so they could get a baseline and see if it changed year to year. Small woman, huge VO2 max, super low heart rate. She's essentially all lung and leisure. Rides like that too. Anyway, any specific questions about it? I'm not sure it makes too much sense to test it since you really can't alter it much.Quote:

Off the top of your heads: having trouble shifting into harder gears from 11th and 9th gear on an 11spd GX derailleur / sunrace cassette. Since shifting into 11th (and back into 1st) are not a problem, am I right thinking this is not the limit screws? What should I look at here. I gotta eke a few more months out of this bike still before I upgrade and this is annoying as shit.
