I could perhaps see the usefulness of the rocker armour, but are the steps really necessary on a taco? Even with the roof stuff, given the curve of the body, it’s easier just to open a door and use its sill as a step.

Last time I used my winch was in the wilds of my neighbor's driveway, which is almost flat and probably less than a quarter mile long. We got hit with a significant amount of heavy, wet snow and the plow guys were swamped; I got out of my driveway without much drama and thought I could help them out and pull their Subaru to the road.

I ended up with three different winch pulls because I couldn't get the truck pointed back to the right direction otherwise. Best part was that the neighbors were impressed with what I could pull off using the winch, while I was thinking that better decision making to begin with would have avoided using it at all.

Yup, last time I used my winch it was to get out of my driveway

I don't know if it would hold up to a serious pull, but my employer leases a fleet of transits each winter and I've found that I can stuff a strap through the lower A-arm fairly readily. It's not as nice as an accessible tow point that you don't have to get dirty for, but I've pulled at least a few out of sloped parking spaces that way.

With aftermarket bumpers, you also need to make sure that they attach to more than the factory points. Factory mount points generally allow for a crumple zone that means they don't hold up to direction of travel pulling very well.

^ yeah looking more closely seems the front cradle/frame could do a solid pull if needed. Have to keep the pull low and straight to not jank up my radiator bits etc..

I’ve watched tow truck drivers pull/drag cars and trucks onto their flatbed trucks or out the f ditches using the factory front or rear tie-down points (using their cable winch). I’ve always read those tie down points are not designed for that sort of use, but it seems that it’s usually the only points they have to work with.

Why don't all vehicles come with solid tow points? Should be the law.

I swear folks have no idea to RTFM when it comes to their vehicles.

Instead it is call AAA. I blame the boomers for this nonsense.

This coming from an engineer who worked with another engineer to pull a car out using the tow hitch ball once...with a nearly disastrous conclusion

Make mistakes but learn from them.
