Now playing the real fun roulette of-- "is it a week of overtraining plus shitty air quality OR is a mild breakthrough COVID infection from the public health conference last week". Don't feel like recovery should've taken this long.

Just got out for the first time in a month to do a quick Mt. SI run. 5.5mi and 3500ft. Looked cloudy, but we got a break in the clouds. Going to run the Enchantments in a couple weeks, so need to pick it up a bit. Quads are feeling the downhill this morning. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...19c5ff61b5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0bf1ba7e72.jpg
The San Juans might not be the most conducive to trail running (steep!) but they sure are pretty.

All good, jorion! I think the descent will be fine for you - I just ran it too fast and was too excited with the beautiful scenery. My quads were not ready. Also, IIRC - it's been 7 years... - Brown Dog Pizza in Telluride is delicious. I'm sure other mags have more recent recommendations but it was good. Enjoy the San Juans - I need to get down there for more "running."
Great pics from you and phatty. Hope you're feeling better, doebedoe!
September is my favorite month here in Seattle. Weather is still great, sunrise getting a little later so you reaching the summit just after, dust is dying down. Got out on Granite Mt. on the weekend with my son and a friend. Gorgeous morning that's stoking the fire for more. 8.5mi and 3800ft.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3f370dfb95.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...49ef9e1fb2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...13d77ca87e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...eb751c5514.jpg
Nice, phatty
Love a good choss pile scramble with a view.
Got out for a nice 9ish mi loop today and set a new PR for the downhill section. Felt like I was on cruise control. Uphill was a different story, though. Gain around 2k in last mile to the summit. 9.3mi, 4500ft in 3:40. Love the later sunrises we are getting. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ca0e3b30a9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4e347e32f9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...73cad3046a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c0ce2e4382.jpg

Finished in 4:07 which put me around the 33rd percentile overall and pretty much smack dab in the middle of my age group. My first “race” so it was interesting to see how I compared with other people.
Years ago working film fest we had a tradition of meeting at OB’s at 10am on Saturday after the fest and drinking a bunch of Guinness together. I remember watching the runners come in and feeling some shame, so I’ve exorcised that now, haha.
^^^ Awesome pics! How'd your quads feel after all that descent?
Thanks!
My quads felt fine but my hip flexors were complaining! I was clearly at my strongest power hiking uphill which makes sense since I’ve done way more of that in my lifetime vs all the other stuff.
I was especially slow relative to others when the descent was rock/gravel which tracks also because almost all my training descents have been on dirt.
Appreciate it. The weather is starting to turn here, but I got down to the Columbia River Gorge for a quick run yesterday. Wahkeena Falls to Multnomah Falls loop. Only crowded near Multnomah Falls (and got insane). Perfect weather and fun to be back near my home town. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6ea13a972e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3df98c2663.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...23933b2e02.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ede47e0d75.jpg
Beautiful stuff, phatty - I'd love to explore the NW more. And nice work, Jorion!
Anyone running Golden Leaf tomorrow?
First hundred down. Run Rabbit Run in Steamboat. So much fucking fun in such a weird way!
Midnight around mile 52:

Great feeling, ain't it?
Sick!
100 miles still feels like such a crazy number to me. 18 yesterday felt like a slog despite my aerobic system not working hard and my legs feeling strong.
12 today otoh felt great, but I wasn’t sad to stop either.
Nice work, sfotex! Pretty stout 100 to start with.
I had a good and challenging time at the 50. Beautiful course and perfect weather. Attachment 386190Attachment 386191Attachment 386192

Congrats both sfotex and fool! That's big time.
Aspens' weren't full engaged for the Golden Leaf, but still a really pretty course. Last couple miles are rough as you suddenly hit the valley heat and you've just shredded your legs going downhill.
Always up for a jaunt around Denver or foothills. Just warning, I'm slow.

I don't think I've ever enjoyed a run more than the one I did today:

Anybody know of a company that will scan a custom orthotic and build you a new one, but lightweight?
I have some foot issues and after years of denial I started orthotics a couple years ago. But these fuckers are heavy. And the online companies that will rebuild and duplicate your footbed don’t seem to offer a lightweight running option.
No, off the shelf shit won’t work.
