I’ve been wondering about this. On a trip just after one of Bush’s elections, so either 2001 or 2005, in a 10 day trip in the coast range we had a tire slashed at one trailhead and car broken into and door left open at another (that one really sucked because we made it back to car after a few day traverse and were tired, hungry and remote and the battery was dead from dome light). That ended up being an adventure.
The RMP and a waitress in Squamish both apologized and had similar takes on it, that we were being hazed for the election.
I’ve been thinking that folks’ cars are going to get thrashed this winter.
Myself and virtually everyone I know are all absolutely sick about what is going on in the US. It’s a failed democracy.

Who knows. As we limped out of bc on a donut and with a broken door we decide the break in was a tweaker and the slashed tire was anti us sentiment (political or ski territorial). For that one we were parked at Joffre trailhead for a few days.
I’ve done many trips in bc over the years and that was the only crime I’ve experienced.
But just from the tone of some of the comments here it’s clear that some otherwise gracious people are equating all Americans to trump and his supporters. I get it. If I had a border between me and this chaos I would find it hard not to do the same. It’s pretty hopeless down here at the moment

Point to be made is that Canada can't legally stop anyone going to the border be they Canadian or tourist. You can go right up to the border its only when you make the jump do you break any laws. What Canada could do is be tighter on entry points to Canada and make them as tight as the US so there is not incentive to try to go through Canada and in some cases freeze to death. I don't know if tighter visa requirements are part of the border package
