Since then, because the effort has been so thorough and so many preliminary boxes have already been checked, that once you dig into the specifics, the question becomes more: Why not Salt Lake City?

Seems the Miller Group wants this as a legacy(?) for the city and given the relative short time they stood up the Big League Utah movement and nearly won the Oakland/LV team - yeah, I think it is possible. The real question will be whether the NHL coming helps or hurts. Do we have enough corporate support for season boxes for 2x41 games in fall-spring and 81 games spring-fall, plus post season if lucky?? Not sure it pencils if they rely on fan base attending ~10 games a season…

SEG's "Entertainment District" and the Millers revitalization of the area off of North Temple are both going to take significant public funding, either in the form of taxes, write offs, land swaps, etc. Some of this is going to come down to the optics of fucking the poor while feeding the rich. It'll be interesting to see what notoriously tax adverse Utahns are willing to put up with especially in the shadow of the spending that will occur with the inevitable upcoming Olympics
I vaguely remember reading the west will get a team and the east will get a team. So we are competing against Portland, San Jose, and Montreal. I think. Otherwise we would have no chance.Quote:

Selfishly, I hope we get a team but it really seems like a longshot to me. No one would say SLC is a better option than Nashville or Charlotte, so we would have to hope that the 1 east coast team and one west coast team rumors are true. I think it would have good local support, but what would be in it for the other MLB franchises? What would adding another small market revenue sharing welfare team to the league really benefit anyone outside of Utah? It's not like SLC will be a destination city for opposing teams, and I doubt a franchise here is going to add a bunch of new eyes to MLBtv. I just don't see it happening.Quote:
