except a couple wks ago when a local beloved moose got hit by a car and I found myself thinking- "shoot couldn't we somehow splint that leg?" and I realized the wild is only going to get more rare
on a separate note, did I see a post that you might be dropping through our neck of the woods? if so, the timing is excellent- skiing is good and a little snow predicted every day for the next week to 10 day forecast

Witnessed an interesting deer standoff yesterday.
I was looking out my front window across the wheat fields when I noticed a small herd of white tail deer standing in an east/west line facing north. Then from out of the north I saw a herd of mule deer moving towards the white tails in the same east/west formation. When the muleys got within about 100 feet of the white tail they stopped and both herds stood there staring at each other. Suddenly they all turned and took off to the east in parallel lines bolting across the fields.
Strange.

This reminded me of a similar "schoolyard standoff" in my back yard a couple years ago. Whitetails on the left, muleys on the right. Notice how the whitetail fawns look so clean and neat and the muleys are kinda scrubby looking. I actually think last year I saw a mixed breed buck near the house. Had a big muley rack but a smallish whitetail body. Did not see the tail unfortunately. I know this interbreeding has been documented, but generally they steer clear of each other. I have read that whitetails are actually the dominant ones when it comes to territory, etc. Which is surprising since mule deer are generally bigger.Quote:

Krick said the man in his 60s and another golfer used their clubs to beat the cat away."

Pretty bold cat--serious size discrepancy between predator and prey. Maybe kittens nearby? I know nothing about bobcats. Too bad they killed it.

On second thought I'm not surprised. When I was a kid our Siamese jumped on my back and scratched the hell of me when my mom started the vacuum cleaner. Maybe the groundskeeper had just started his lawnmower.
Found this guy at the barn this morning when I went down to feed. Not a freakin' clue where he came from as there are no close irrigation ditches and the river is almost a quarter mile away.
Loaded him up into a cat carrier and took him the river. Released him into an old disused irrigation inlet where the water is still and there are logs, fish and bugs for him. He was so amazingly happy when he slid into the water! He was swimming circles, diving, coming up for air and diving again. You could almost hear him saying "I'M FREE!"

A week ago bear and 3 of this years cubs while biking . Seen bear with 3 cubs before but always 2 this year one from last . No pic but yesterday had huge wolf in yard, maybe 150 lb. Just passing through..
