Cloud atlas was a weak attempt at creaing a movie that played like a sextet. 2.5 stars.
Oops ur right it was on amazon. My bad.
At least u won't feel bad if it ever makes it to Netflix. ;)
Don't know if this has been mentioned yet but anyone who's into touring will probably enjoy "Happy People: A Year in the Taiga" for some old skool touring action.
LOS GATOS, CA—In a swift and unexpected departure from their present business model, officials from Netflix revealed Wednesday that the company is currently considering adding a good movie to their online streaming service. “With the growing success of the streaming platform, we thought the time was right to think about possibly offering, just for the sake of variety, one film that wasn’t a total critical and commercial flop forgotten immediately after its initial theatrical release,” said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sandaros, adding that the company is exploring various options for licensing a single high-quality movie that people would in fact enjoy watching and wouldn’t turn off after the first 25 minutes. “We feel the addition of a popular, above-average, well-made film would provide a nice counterbalance to our existing library of poorly received sequels, totally unknown indie dramas from four or five years ago that you’ve never heard of, and horrendous direct-to-DVD horror features.” At press time, Netflix had reportedly abandoned the plan and added Something’s Gotta Give to its streaming library
This was good
The Last Stand, with Schwarzenegger, was better than expected.
Where The Yellowstone Goes. Not a bad flick. They film a crew doing a 30 day trip on the Yellowstone. Made me want hop in the drift boat.
Deeeeeeexterrrrrrrrrrrrr
Not sure if it's been mentioned but Into The Pride was an awesome little series about a lion tamer living with some rogue lions on a preserve in Africa and his work to get them comfortable around humans. Incredible to see the transformation in both the lions and him. Didn't feel it was too overly produced or dramatized, especially after the first episode.
THE MAN FROM TAI CHI
Keanu Reeves, who directed the film, came correct with the action and martial arts elements (he hired Yuen Wu Ping, the legendary martial arts choreographer who worked on The Matrix trilogy, as well as such seminal early '90s Hong Kong kung fu films as Iron Monkey, Wing Chun, Fist of Legend, Once Upon A Time In China, not to mention Jackie Chan's 1970's breakout Drunken Master.
Props to Keanu for filming in Chinese (yes, there's subtitles) and for chocking the movie with tons of bone crushing mayhem.
OMFG! How did this end up straight to netflix??? Best evah!!!
A bit disappointed with Keanu's stiff, telegraphed, not snappy kicks in the final fight scene that had to be matrix'd to work.
But everything before that was a top notch kind of Enter The Dragon redux meets (as dookey told me) The Devil's Advocate.
Absolutely loved the tai chi to full on chi moment of completion.
AMBER HEARD DOUBLE-FEATURE
1. ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE
nice twist on the teen slasher film. Solid cinematography and a cool, retro soundtrack, as well.
2. SYRUP
hyper kinetic and ironically sarcastic look at marketing/advertising, not to mention a rather intriguing, albeit somewhat veiled love story.
Anybody watched top of the lake? I'm just about halfway through it and liking it.
syrup sucked. drinking buddies blew.
Mitt is already up on Netflix
An Idiot Abroad
Good stuff
(Sorry if repeat)
Mitt. lol. Dude won't even touch coffee so you know he know's how to party.
I binged watched 8 seasons of Dexter. Now what do I do?
Watch Chuck if you liked the hot blonde.
Yvonne Strahoski, isn't it?
What a name...
I'd suggest watching Mitt. It shows why decent people do not want to get involved in the political process and why we are going to be stuck with shit bag politicians for a long time. I don't support Romney's political views, but I gained a lot of respect for him and his family. One of the best political docs released in the last few years.
I've been watching Cheers lately. Sill a great show.
No mention of The Square yet? One of the best, most powerful, most intense things I've seen in a while. Can totally see that this should win the best doc Oscar.
Felt the same way, but why should we be surprised that he bonds with his family, or occasionally managed to show some surprising (to use) Wit?
It mostly consisted of him sitting around talking to his 5 yes man/cheerleaders/sons as they "stratergized".
Personally, I would have liked to seen more of him trying to do more real world choirs, like Ironing his shirt.
I found myself suspect of personal bias, or motives of the ducumentary. The whole thing seemed sorta glossed over.
I suspect this is yet more Alien-Mormon world domination propaganda.
Edit to add rec: 'Narc' fucking gritty, great performances, good story
Grabbers
Sea monster alien movie that actually wasn't half bad after the first scene or two.
There's a Lindsay Vonn documentary on Netflix - watching it now.
This is probably going to kill this, but if you download the Hola extension for Chrome you can access titles in England that are not available in the US via streaming. I think Netflix is starting to catch on and I'm expecting a terms of service agreement change soon that will limit you by the country your account is registered in.
Justified
All seasons of Breaking Bad, etc.
I watched part of the pilot of Chuck. Is the whole show really as kitch and cliche and brainless as it seems? How the fuck do these shows stay on air being that dumb? Is it like waiting room background noise or something?
So it sucks and you don't see what'shername naked?
The Act of Killing is worth a watch.
I dare you not to be stuck silent at the end. It was that way in the theaters.
Not sure if it has been mentioned. But stumbled upon this documentary the other day. Pretty bad ass if you like riding a bicycle

It's probably been mentioned in this thread already, but check out Shane Carruth's "Upstream Color", his followup to "Primer". For those that enjoy cerebral movies, this is your flick. Took me 2 viewings to figure out what the heck was going on ... definitely a very solid sophomore film and one that I think was actually done far better than Primer as impossible as that may be.
given the timing, Ready To Fly was a pretty cool docu on women's ski jumping...
