Is it that bad up there?

Had a pretty good day out ripping the resort yesterday. 7th groomers were fun with about 8-10cm of fresh but with a pronounced crust underneath. Places that don't get skied hard were still decent. lower mountain was really nice slush.
Sunday onwards, GFS is calling for 120mm of rain with freezing levels hovering around 2600m hence the waterskis comment.
ETA. The higher backcountry lines around the resort are probably pretty good right now.
Too cold, too hot. Seems like just right must be next.
ugh, terrible. can't underestimate the terrain up there, or, well, anywhere on WB really.
Based on the area’s historical weather conditions, there is “favourable snowfall, wind, and winter climate for resort development.”

Oof. Given Showcase and the Glacier are closed, I’m assuming the skier entered via one of the Sapphire Chites. Those can be a bit hairy and I’d gather quite spicy given the low snowpack. Or, is Zut Zut considered Sapphire bowl? Maybe a slip up there? Regardless, tragic and sad to hear.
As an ECer, I only get to Whistler in March for my kid’s spring break. Last year was the worst I’d seen it in the past 8 years (sans covid)… The upper chute was a “no thanks” due to the many shark fins and the middle chute was navigable but spooky. Not much margin for error there. Praying for more snow for this year’s trip but also willing to bring my water skis (pontoons)!
It was the Sapphire straight line entrance. Cliff just below it. Bad luck. He just got tangled up at a bad place
On the brighter side Symphony is getting a bit of snow. Boot top pow. Visibility in alpine is not the greatest fyi.
Edit. Snowing to valley but not sticking. Probably 2 cms/hour as we leftAttachment 484229
Do they still only groom lower P2C twice a year to keep the tourists surprised and challenged? Love hearing people say "ugh it just keeps going" as I'm thinking the exact same thing.
Also I'm sure the vibe in town is all doom-and-gloom with the forecast coming up, but know this: it's NEVER as bad as predicted and the paulster has had many great weeks showing up immediately after or during a full pineapple. There will be awesome snow somewhere. I just know hearing people whine about weather forecasts can get irritating.

Yesterday off peak chair was pretty good. On lower angle stuff you didn’t feel the crust. Total lack of vis in whis bowl kept crowds away
I'm reading the below part as the cliff lower down the fall line rather than directly after the chutes. Maybe hit a shark en route to the straight line or didnt realize it didnt go til it was too late. More bootpacks out of that area than i've ever seen this year (not without reason)
Gonna head up and see what that 9cm was all about.
Bit of a sleeper day. 9cms reported. There was 15 cms on the snow stake with more on windloaded areas. 5 cms fell more during the day. Good opportunity to use Fresh Tracks Tix.

Yeah some very nice turns to be had today. Also some scrapey horrible ice lumps every 4th turn.
Yeah that was probably my day of the season, skied straight on to peak all day and still getting some untracked on my last run. Snow was lighter than expected as well. 👌
