Does anybody else think they should open the bowls for experts only -no easy way down??

I don't how how you'd enforce that other than a sign that people will ignore that says "exports only, no easy way down" and gates/ropes?
is it a junk show of patrol work rescuing people there this year?
Hoping S.V. gets some snow soon.
In past low snow years, they would post an experts only sign and let us try our luck. I think with new mt mgmt and lots of new ski patrol, they're just gun shy. I don't blame them - lots of the icon passholders probably read as well as they ski and would just ignore the sign. I'm just horny for more terrain.

Oh for some reason I didn't read that as they were explicitly closed but rather a free for all and too many bad skiers making their way into the bowls needing rescue. Also stinks there is no skier compaction on them..
Yeah that sucks they aren't opening for those that are willing and can ski it.
Come use your sv pass at snowbasin, pretty good base. Just don't come on a weekend it's a shit show.
Thanks, NBABUCKS, but I'm spending this winter in Idaho (except for visits to Huntsman) and could really use some offpiste skiing at home. I had a great winter last year(who didn't ??) with you guys, but I spent most of my days at POWMOW. They let me ski free there because I'm old.

I guess someone was listening, not sure the thin cover sign is keeping many people out but it’s skiing pretty good in the bowls today
That's good news - maybe they were watching tis thread.

ANTI JINKS
Who's in charge of opening the runs? Yesterday the ski patrol had mass confusion over what was open and what was closed. In years past (I know - who cares what you old guys think) they would open them after a ski test, and get 'em ski packed. Now, they're waiting for them to "be safe". WTF. Sorry for the rant. It's just sad to see good skiing closed, while the open runs are crowded.

New Patrol, new systems. Your new patrol director was basically raised in LCC and most recently was the patrol director at Alyeska. She knows a thing or two about snowpacks.
Point taken. I have 47 years on Baldy. Local knowledge.

ck, how many winters have had the warm, humid flow?
Exactly. Interesting how often people second guess experts who have spent their life dedicated to a job. I get that we all have opinions and make our own observations, but are we willing to risk lives based on those opinions?
Patrol uses skier compaction on stable thin snowpack. If there’s enough of a slab to bury a skier you can’t let people ski it.
I've done some homework. We are very fortunate to have our new ski patrol leader, she is super qualified and quickly learning Baldy's little quirks. Fire Trail and all the surrounding areas -29 turns, numbers, etc.- are closed b ecause there is a large debris pile all the way down the gut of Fire Trail. No easy way down. Today was great, but not as good as yesterday. One more storm, and we'll be good.
CK
Fire Trail and lower Numbers opened yesterday - skiing great. I hear they got one of the Coldsprings Chutes to slide today at @ 10:30. Plenty of great skiing inside the ropes. Props to the patrol.

Today reminded me of the old days, before the super passes. Mid week pow day, kids in school, no panic and no lines.
Let this storm continue!
Maybe a nice little reset before the masses arrive
