Gypsy cabs were just dudes with sketchy cars that ran illegal taxis back in the day before Uber when the outer boroughs were neglected. For that matter, they may still exist. I don’t know. I haven’t lived (or drunk) down there for many years.

I'd like to see a National Geographic expedition take on this last-best quest: to finally map and discover Upstate NY. Kinda like a Lewis+Clark journey, but with Bmills, Timba, Otzi, and Benny. Maybe throw in Fast Fred as a wild card, or Stu Gotz. Butter's neighbor Kenny Burns can make the film about it, and Joe Pesci can narrate the journal entries the crew writes down every night by the fire while blitzed out of their mimds:

Forget National Geographic, this is the sort of thing TGR does right? I do fear someone is going to kill somebody during the filming, but not before Bunny gets coal rolled by two French Canadians in a F350 just south of Malone and Buttahs discovers his sexuality at the Rainbow Pony in Cheektowaga.

downstate is the city, long island, westchester, orange, and rockland.
The catskills is the transition area and everything after that is upstate with varying degrees of woodchuck backwoods people

I wonder if the expedition will follow the canals used by the ancient Upstaters like Wooley.

My wife did a bunch of student teaching in St. Regis Falls. That place truly was depressing.

Malone does have Titus Mountain though, which is hands down the best small town ski area in the world if you ask me.

If you live there. However, that's a longer drive than I care for to ski a small town area. That said, there are a few folks over here that go there. Weirdos.

And that, in essence, is what makes it so great. It's just a bunch of college kids and locals in snowmobiling gear having a raucous good time.
