Excited Baldy decided to stay open Tu-Th, since those are my days off this month.
Anyone know if Snow Valley is honoring Baldy pass holders with a few days of free lift tickets this year? I know they did past years, but haven't seen anything online and SV hasn't replied to me. Would like to take the 5 year old skiing this week and not sure I'm ready to traumatize her with a Baldy experience :-). plus Baldy seems to charge for 5 yo, which is fine I guess.
Awesome day at Baldy ski area. Should get some nice spring conditions next few days. To difficult to add photos on forum right now, so check my Strava for coverage shots.

I should add, those of you new to Baldy and just been there on powder days, spring conditions can be tons of fun. Highly recommend.
And in regard to the snowbrains link, I don't like booting up the bowl on Baldy peak even when the snow is stable, way too many kook hikers. Last year I had a metal water bottle wiz past my head, plus all the shit they knock down...and the natural rock fall. Sketchy AF.
Friday afternoon was lots of fun at Baldy.
Friday afternoon was awesome. The new snow is transitioning, but it really was not too grabby. Soft and slightly slushy in the north facing areas, Robin's and Goldridge, a bit slushier, but still lots of fun in the Emile's area. The new snow has really filled Thunder in again. Although the runs to the lot are not officially open you could ski down in the Morgan's/Bentley's area. I talked to one guy who did that with the permission of patrol.
I arrived around 1, did about 10 laps and left. I started with a couple of groomers, which are in much better shape now. After that I did three in Emile's, two in Robin's Trees and two in Goldridge. I did go into the Andy's/Herb's area, but it is not great there, unconsolidated slush on rocks, no base to speak of really. There might have been good turns in that zone, but I didn't find them.
I would say Robin's and Goldridge were the best for me, although Emile's was fun too.
The mountain is in great shape right now.

Thought I had a weather window this afternoon, so checked out BP. Wind stopped, but didn't get as warm as expected, so not full on spring conditions. A few turns on windblown powder, rest firm or spring conditions. Coverage is good and easy ski to road. Can drive to trailhead.
If things go well I will be up at Baldy on Friday afternoon. If not, I should definitely be there Saturday. Hopefully both.
Stiff wind this morning, ch3 on hold for a while. Top 2/3 of Skyline was skiing great after it softened up. Sunny side of Liftline softened nicely. Shortcut coverage is good, Robins and bottom of Skyline has some rocks. Gulch and bottom of Bonanza is water skiing.
Coverage is good on the top half of the mountain, but it's only a few inches deep at the bottom. Lift might only run another week or two unless we get a storm.

Today was fun at Baldy, although it didn't soften up quite as much as I thought it might.
I arrived at aroudn 1145, banged out about 10 Thunder laps and left at around 215.
My first 5 laps were groomers, it didn't seem like the off-piste was getting all that soft. My next 5 were in the Emile's area, which was soft in spots but mostly quite firm. It was still fun, some crusty stuff with the recent new snow making for some dust on crusty turns. It was fun, but challenging skiing.
I didn't venture into Goldridge or Robin's or any of those areas. With how firm Emile's was I really didn't need to check those spots.
The coverage on Thunder is good, it's getting to the lift that is an issue. They might need to start shuttling people in the Suburban soon. Coverage up on Thunder is great though. If it gets softer tomorrow it will be a blast. The early winds today kept it firm. I'm glad I didn't go any earlier.

Skied BP Sunday. As 406 said coverage is good all the way down. Sunday was a good warm spring day with great snow on the more northern aspects of the gully. Get it while the coverage is still good.

How was the snow? Was it still wintery on the northern aspects? Has it changed over to spring?
Gonna ski Saturday at Baldy, will probably be a big departure from Alta last week but looking forward to it either way!

Yeah, it's a drag, but there aren't any snow reserves up high to push down to cover the bottom. Been better than expected for a La Nina year though!
Some small pockets of wintery snow on a couple of very specific aspects, but mostly very spring like all mountain. Get too eastern/southern and it was already heavy mush, the more northern were not quite corn but very corn adjacent with some sugar snow mixed in. Skiing the northern/western aspects was very fun, the others were a lot of work. Hopefully we keep getting an overnight freeze, hoping to check out the big avy gully on the north side soon.
^ Take a look (from the road) at the exit of the main draw on the N side before dropping it to make sure there's enough snow, and not so much rushing water that it'll kill you if you fall through a snow bridge.
