Just about everyone in the "Hollywood commumity" knew about Harvey and it look how long for him to be outed? People knew, but they said nothing. Nobody was willing to put their neck out and say this is fucking wrong.

You might not read that thread, but the vast majority (maybe all?) Padded room posters know what that thread is.

It is allowed to exist, very few speak out against it and are treated very harshly for it.

Everyone who is silent accepts it's existence.

You (the general you) are, again, putting the amusement of men and your standing in the community before the rights of women to be free from having intimate pictures taken and posted on the internet without their consent.

So I went back and read Mtgirls comments and the NSFW thread.

First of all, non-consensual posting of nude photos is NOT cool and probably illegal. If photos are posted without consent it is a violation of rights. There are ways people can search online to see if images they have were taken are posted somewhere and things to do if they are found to be out there: https://www.cybercivilrights.org/faqs-usvictims/

The poster of that image did make it somewhat unclear that it was consensual and if not its not OK.

The reality is that most of the photos in the thread are probably consensual and it is difficult if not impossible for a neutral observer to really judge. A photo could be of someone in full S&M being beaten with a paddle, but be totally consensual and posted with consent. On the other hand a photo could be totally innocuous looking but the true story totally non-consensual and posted without consent and in fact be something much darker, like sexual slavery. Point is it is impossible for the viewer to know. And you don't know, you're just indulging in conjecture that this woman has been violated. Maybe she begged for the photo to be posted, maybe she is a sex slave, maybe she's a professional porn actress, maybe she is some random in a dressing room with a creep taking her photo with a spy camera, maybe she's a prostitute paid for photos, maybe she's a high profile human rights lawyer whose career will be ruined because of this photo, maybe X, maybe Y.

So what would you propose Mtgrl? Totally censoring/ deleting/not allowing such a thread? Because someone MIGHT be an asshole then all threads containing possible NCP should be disallowed? Requiring consent forms be posted? This thread isn't critical to the board in of itself, but it IS representative what many people like about it here - its relatively un moderated and has a diverse range of topics. If someone wants just ski talk or no tolerance for nudes and therefore no chance of NCP, there is Alpine Zone or Turns all year or Facebook or other places you might go.

Again, if a crime has been committed or rights have been violated then all available recourse should be pursued. But short of that IMO its just free speech and should be allowed. Powtron or Beer Drinker should post away if they like.

The reason professional photographers use photo releases is because the burden of proof is on them to prove consent, not on the model to prove there was none.

Anyone making the claim that any photos of these women should be posted without positive concentration from them is either missing the point, aiding and abetting, or actively undermining the rights of these women. There is no gray area.

If there is a chance a photo is posted without consent it should be removed and that person should be banned. If that means some threads have to die, then so be it. Small price to pay for most of us. I don’t want to be part of it even unwillingly.

it's hilarious you call it censorship. it's called having some fucking respect.

I am a bit torn on this. There can never be an excuse for posting non-consensual pics. That is clearly revenge porn and is illegal. However, what we are taking about is the type of environment we want this place to be. For sure, if anybody claims to be the subject of a picture that was posted and wants that removed, it should be immediately removed without question. And nobody should be posting pictures here that do not explicitly have permission to post them. But we should be able to trust each other that that is in fact the case (and not joke about it BTW, I did find that distasteful). As for the type of place we want this to be, in my mind, the padded room is for exploring all of the rest of the things that humanity might be interested in that are not TGR's core business (outdoor action sports). And for what it's worth, sexuality and eroticism is a major component of humanity and should be allowed here. It is and unfortunate mirror of our society that a privileged sport like skiing reflects the privileged nature of straight white males in our society. I guess what I am saying is that I would like to work toward is a society where in the future Padded Room, Ullr is not a straight male but could equally be a bi, lesbian, gay, trans, or any other sexuality and would make it snow for people identifying that way posting sexuality and eroticism and not a place where Ullr never gets any because no sexuality is allowed. I don't know how to do that as it is IMO a much tougher change than a blanket ban on sexuality but we should be allowed to have this discussion and exploration (and this thread as well as mtngirl's questioning of our privileged position is a good start).
For the record, I am "guilty" of the discussed offending behavior. I won MPC #23 by posting a nude picture of divegirl artfully reflected in several mirrors. It doesn't show much but it absolutely does appear to be candidly taken in a very voyeuristic manner. Obviously, I did get her consent (she was sitting right next to me when I posted it) but could just have easily not been consensual.
