On the high priced park city menu, I ate at Chimayo the other night, and if you think strictly about the food, ignore price, it was fucking great. Everyone in the party thought the food was fantastic. I have eaten there twice before in the past several years, and it was same experience, outstanding. Pricy? Yes.
I ate at 350 main once several years ago, and yeah, very expensive, but also very good.
OH, it was Park City. Now it makes sense. That's fucking ridiculous. The prices just reflect how the gap between rich and poor in this country is getting absurd, and, unfortunately, it's concentrated in ski towns (or what used to pass for a ski town), like PC. Last year I couldn't but a seat in just a little better than mediocre places in Telluride, all the while having some trendy young punk cop attitude in my face at the register. For fucking Chinese food! You really wonder if the customers live in places that have decent food, or just accept 40 buck fake Vietnamese entrees as worth it. After probably waiting an hour to get seated.
I just spent five weeks in northern Italy, and ate a lot of good food. A lot. Some medium priced, some high by Italian standards. The quality of food and service was incredible, and the prices were always quite fair, sometimes a little laughable. What the fuck is wrong with Americans with money that they want to throw it away on stupid menus like that. Fuck, there's gotta be some Mexican nearby that is three times as good, and one third the cost. I know there is in SLC.

Meh he's mostly right. I don't know about the poor v rich part, but other than that he's spot on. Places like the menu above just have a market in a place like PC. I think you can do far better spending that much coin. To each their own I suppose. It's your money.Quote:

#truth might kinda stink for those families on more of a budget though. Less places in the affordable price range means the places they can go are jammed all the time. I rarely go to the PC area at all anymore. I'm sure the food at that place is great, but still.Quote:

I used to live in summit park, we never went to mai street area to eat. And the park record ran an editorial by a restaurant owner complaining how locals don't eat on main anymore. All it is is super expensive places now, so yeah, local families don't go there (unless you got a shoulder twofer). But there is a time and place. I had friends from out of town in a rented condo for a bachelor party. We spent the money, and it was fucking good. I bet it is a year before I spend that much on din er again. But from a purely how was the food point of view? It was great!
For what it's worth,to kick off the eating after picking them up at the airport, we went to El paisa grill on 3200w just south of 201 and got molcajetes. Killer. Highly recommended.
There are definitely meals that are worth the extra $. Don't know about this place, but just because you can get a meal for $10 doesn't mean a $50 meal is a waste.Quote:

No I agree for sure. As mentioned I ate many a good meal in my younger days before kids mostly. I still splurge from time to time, that menu and dish pictured just didn't look like it commanded such a high rate. Move that to downtown SLC and the prices would likely be more in line with what it's "worth". I've also had many a high price meal that sucked ass, so..Quote:

He’s from Scotland. Chili’s is like fine dining to them.
Skip Chili’s and Cheesecake Factory. Watch the B Ball game at Gracies or Porcupine Grill. More fun, better food, and cuter girls. Ruth’s Chris is a chain restaurant but I have had some amazing meals there. It’s very expensive but always good. Not likely to find a better steak in Utah. There’s a really good sushi restaurant kind of close to you called Tsunami if that’s your thing. If you find yourself in Jackson, Wyoming go to the Stagecoach in Wilson and ask how to get ahold of Calum Mackay, and old wooden toothed Scotsman. He’ll take care of you. He’ll also sing with you. Yeah, screw the chains, although I concur Ruth Chris is probably your best bet for steak, Go up Fort Union to The Huddle for the National Championship game, great whiskey selection, better tv's and acceptable bar food.
If Italian is your thing try Carmines, also due east of where you are staying. You cant go wrong with the Cottonwood Cafe for breakfast, best blueberry pancakes anywhere.
That's a small start, please for the love of all that's holy don't go to chilis or the cheesecake factory.
Is Ruth Chris better than the Steak Pit at the bird?
