Erin Hills. Site of 2017 Mens US Open: Course sucks. Fake Links look. Pure USGA target golf and not fun to play at all. Might as well have bullseye's in the landing zones. Shot 81 with 37 on the back. Greens are not difficult here as the skill is putting yourself in position to hit the approach shot. https://www.erinhills.com/
Kohler Resort The River Course. Site of 1998 and 2012 US Womens Open: I really like this course. Lush and green park style course. Very fast and tricky greens which I like. Shot 83 here with a three penalties. Requires good lag putting. http://www.americanclubresort.com/go...-run/the-river

The Irish Course at Whistling Straits: This is a tough course and very similar to Whistling Straits. Another fake links course with targeting the most important aspect.
Shot 84 and 81 here. Again, putting kept me from breaking 80.
Whistling Straits. Multiple USGA, PGA, and 2020 Ryder Cup: Stupid course. It feels like you are playing in a landfill which you are. It's 100% fake links style and not really aesthetically pleasing to look at. Just a bunch of dirt pits on dirt piles. Lots of bad luck two shot penalties. Most of the greens require carry and there is little opportunity to bump and run. This course is not even in the same league as Bandon Dunes if you are talking about links golf. Shot 82 with a couple birdies and horrific putting.

Erin Hills and Whistling Straits are popular venues for big tournaments because they are designed to accommodate lots of spectators.
Kohler is a nice resort. Cool little town but I'm not going back there. I liked Boyne Michigan much better and prefer Bend, Oregon to both.

Had my first real chance to shoot in the 70's on a hard course a few weekends ago. I had zero course knowledge or I would have shot mid 70's. Crushed my drives off the tee right down the middle. The problem was that 5 of the fairways doglegged 200 -250 and had at least 5 strokes directly lost to taking drops or being out of position. I had the golf zen thing going and would look at the pin and drop the ball inside of ten feet with my approach shots . It was the best round of my life . The following 2 rounds I came down to earth and have struggled to break 90. Somehow I can't make 3-5 foot putts. Driving me crazy . I seriously think I could walk up and one hand it in better than now. I spent a few hours trying to fix it but it isn't carrying over into rounds. I think I started pressing after having a good round and it ruined everything.

Making the adjustment is the hardest for slower greens. I use a face balanced mallet when they are slower, it helps a little, but I always putt better on a bit faster, more true greens with my Scotty Cameron 1.5 blade. They also can be fast and hard, but not very true rolling, which really suck.
I wasnt griping that the holes werent straight on the tee box map it showed like a 10 degree turn when it was more like 50 degrees. I would have chose a hybrid or 4 iron off the tee. I wish I could blame the greens . I can hit it straight on long puts but have been pushing it on my short puts the last week or so. Such is golf ! I will never be perfect at it. Part of the appeal really.
played for the first time in quite a long time and brought my 3 year old along for super twilight. we got to play alone the whole time. except for the driver, i played pretty well. had several birdie opportunities, made several pars and mostly bogeys otherwise. i didn't keep score but it would have been close to my low for 9 at least. driver wasn't so horrible that i wasn't able to make some decent recovery shots for the most part. we may go again tomorrow as my last tuneup for south america.
Tied my best round ever yesterday with a one over 73 from the back tees with 4 birdies, 3 bogies and a double.
Haven't shot low 70's for a couple of years cos never able to hold it together for all 18. Bummed that I chunked two chips for that double and also left another couple of birdie putts tracking dead center but couple inches short. Then again saved par from 4 or 5 feet several times too.
oh yeah, and we're listening to a dead bootleg on the way home from the course and new new minglewood blues comes on and my 3 year old has heard a lot of dead and after the first verse he says 'daddy, lions don't live in the desert.' i can honestly say that in 30ish years of listening to the dead and hearing that song probably a couple hundred times it never occurred to me whether lions live in the desert or not.

my general impression is that they usually live on the edge of deserts if they are near deserts, otherwise savannah, but somebody can correct my ignorance of such things. in any case, it still had never occurred to me.
Sitting at home with a newborn watching the 1989 pga championships on golf channel. I feel old as dirt. The broadcasting technology is awful and the outfits are hilarious. Giant Maxfli visors and hats. A guy named Mike Reid is leading but falling apart. Paine just took the lead. I remember watching this live with my dad….seems like the other day. I am a huge Fowler fan but found his outfits silly…turns out they are way better looking than the shit in the 80's.
