They clearly show the actual Sierra Buttes as a heli destination from the lodge - that's bullshit. And the captions for the "rad" photos were obviously written by an English- as-12th-language gaper. This is retarded.

There is already a gazex at the very top of high yellow and it annoys the shit out of me as it def has had a negative impact on the snow and the best line
Sounds like Squaw has done the math and decided Gazex are cheaper than patrol.
Good to know your ski line is more important than patroller safety

You think they put it where it's scoured? Perhaps why you shouldn't comment on operations.

Yes
BayJay,
Thanks for your response. As per your request I have re-read what you wrote. I see that you were originally concerned that the gasex had been buried. (Which is correct, they had to dig it out multiple times). You then go on to discount that theory by saying, "Although....it's always so wind scoured up top there I doubt that could happen." I apologize for any misunderstanding.

Yeah, I went to a friend's wedding there and it was amazing in the summer, including the huge hot tub built into the granite rock outcrop next to the main house. The new website for skiing is whack though. I'd love to spend a long weekend there with sleds. The mini golf behind the house could be fun. The website description is ridiculous though. Half of the photos are from there, or look like they could be taken from there, but half are definitely not from the site. There is no sauna with a view of the west side of Thunder Mountain. And two hours of Hobbs time to fly to the Buttes could be the equivalent cost of at least four heli-ski runs.
Anybody going to the MSP premiere Wednesday night at Squaw? I'll be there -- look for a grey Flylow cap. AKB might be joining too, would be good to see some fellow mags.
Please elaborate on how gasex placement on high yellow isn't primarily for safety.

My point was, I didn't remember seeing it "up top" last season as had been suggested, then realized it must be tucked lower down since the top is always wind scoured anyway. I didn't deeply elaborate because no one (except you, apparently) gives a shit about picking over minute details and it was an offhand comment on an internet forum. I also said nothing whatsoever about operations - I don't give a fuck anyway since this year I bailed on the over-sold shitshow Squawlpine has become.
so where are you skiing this year TahoeJ? Sugarbowl?
Ill be working the phunkshun booth at the msp movie tomorrow
FYI: presales are sold out and the movie will completely sell out since its just one show
doors open at 7 so get there early!
Thursday evening in Reno were showing Rogue Elements at the reno aces ballpark... Come thru!
in other news: I guess Im one of the only folks in this group that much prefers gazex over hand charges
Personally I prefer Snow Safety Helicopters over both gazex and handcharges

We're going to MSP tomorrow! Fingers crossed for tix! Where are the maggots congregating?

Damn man. Hope you and the fam escaped with your homes and lives intact.
My next door neighbor is a Santa Rosa FF, and grew up there. He knows dozens of people who have lost their homes. Tragic. Anyway, as they say, +++++vibes+++++ to all the Santa Rosa/Sonoma folks who've lost everything. Hope no mags were affected.
Cheaper for sure, but also safer for patrollers.

Thanks. Didn't make it out to the MSP flick last night... we were busy watching updates as our neighborhood was evacuated. So far so good but if the winds pick up that can change in a hurry. A couple more friends' houses on the edge of the fire right now on the east side of town. Ugh.
How was Drop Everything? I also saw it's now available on iTunes.
It was a typical Squaw experience for me. Rolled up to a massive line, scored a ticket from a friend of a friend, realized there were seats for 250 of the 1,000 people inside, saw Scott Schmidt (!!!), wandered crotch-to-crotch between Squaw people for about 10 minutes, and then bounced before the movie began to join (the ticketless) meter-man for a couple beers in the village.
Edit: Hope your family house is okay, J.
I'm back ya'll! Was a long time lurker here who finally started posting and met up with a few of you years back, but back in the fall of 2011, I finally got taken out by the rare neuro-immune disorder I was running from my whole life. Couldn't ski for 5 years and in the middle of it even walking became difficult. Kept it quiet last year to make sure it would stick, but got back on skis again finally late last winter, and looks like through the combination of drugs and cancer treatments they're experimenting on me with, I'll be back out there again this year! FKNA! Hope to see you all out there for the turns that I have an even greater appreciation for now!
And on that note.. my last year of skiing was Year 1 of the Moment Belafonte and I loved ripping on them. But they're a bit burly for me now that I don't have the muscle strength I used to. Hoping to find someone who has some Moment Deathwish's they'd be willing to unload to me on the cheap. Will be on disability the rest of my life and not much budget in there for gear! My old boss tossed me a couple bucks and hoping to use it to get matched up on a bit less stiff but still charger-capable ski.
Thanks everyone.. glad to be back!!!

Wondering if it will be ok to roll up & get tix at door?
Or is it likely to be a sell-out, like Squaw was?
